      Dreaming & Temperature.

About five minutes ago, I awoke from one of the most vivid, emotionally connected dreams I've ever had. It never became fully lucid, but maybe in some parts. The more important part, however, is that I woke up sweating and hot. As I noticed in my dream journal, most of my strongest dreams come when I wake up and it's considerably hot in the room.

Just wondering if there have been any studies done with dreaming in cold vs. hot environments. Very interested to know...

Woah...interesting...I am not sure if temperature has an effect on dreaming. But it would be interesting to know if there is.

Any sensory information like that can have a direct or indirect influence on dreams.

I suspect how hot or cold influences the dream is very complex - a result of various associations, your general mental state and connection with what's going on in the dream.

Also I think that cold is better than hot for getting to sleep, and so probably staying alseep. An agitant like being too hot in REM sleep may cause disturbances which could affect dreams I don't know..

I agree it would be really interesting to see a study on it

There's plenty of research online you can find regarding sleep and optimal temperatures (roughly 65 - 72 degrees). Sleeping in warmer temperatures results in less deep/SWS sleep as you are naturally more energized/wakeful, which is also why your dream would seem more vivid.

I am currently engaged in a full on thermostat war with my mom. She's being a psycho 74 degree nazi and I flat out cannot sleep at that temperature. Sleeping in cooler temps is healthier.

Interesting article and feedback. If what Aquanina says is true, about warmer temperatures results in less deep/SWS sleep, then it would make some sense. I will agree I cannot sleep in hotter temperatures though. The article was okay, but who is to say that higher temperatures during Menstrual Period is what causes changes in dreams. We all know there is a lot more body chemistry going on, which could have some effect. Thanks for the replies!

It happens to me many a times. I was bit afraid recently I face such dream in which the temperature was highest then ever. I never feel such a high temperature before. I search for while and came to know about this forum. Now I really feel relax that I am not alone who feel such dreams.
