So last night I had a non-lucid dream that I was in someplace far away from home (how far or where exactly I don't know, but I was staying in a hotel, and DC's told me I was far away from home). At first everyone was speaking English, but then one time as I was walking out of the hotel building, a DC opened the door for me as he walked in. I said 'thank you', only in a very different language than English. I'm not sure how the words I said would be spelled, so I won't try.
But then the interesting thing was, this DC understood me. And when I walked out of the building and over to where a group of my friends were standing, I told them about what had happened, and they all understood the words, too. Upon realizing this, we all started to just talk in this non-existent language that I had created, and we could all understand each other 100%, and the words consistently meant the same things!
Now, I can understand how we'd be able to understand each other, since all that really mattered was that my brain knew what each person was supposed to be saying, but the consistency of everything really surprised me. I'm not even multi-lingual IRL...so I'm very surprised that my mind would just spontaneously create an entirely original language with its own word order and grammar and everything. But I know it did, because the surprise that I had in the dream was enough to make me consciously pay attention, even though I wasn't aware of the fact that I was dreaming. Of course I no longer remember the language now that I've woken up, and it's really too bad...it sounded neat
What about you guys? Have you come up with an entire language in your dreams before?
