      Any medical professionals out there?

I have just recently started keeping a DJ. I have read through a few DJ on this site, and I have noticed that there seems to be a large gaming culture. I'm cool with video games, but I hardly ever play any. Maybe like once a year I will play a game on playstation 2. I have also noticed a lot of anime fans...never been into anime really. I think the Animatrix kicks ass, but that's about the extent of it. It seems that these two interests seem to shape the dreams I have read. A lot of it seems right out of a video game or anime. It's obvious that what you spend your waking life doing a lot of makes it's way into your dream world.

So...I was wondering if there are any medical professionals on this forum. Anything dealing with death, trauma, and sickness in waking life. I'm simply curious to compare my dreams to somebody else's in the medical profession to see how much of it carries over into other's dreams. I spend a lot of time at work, so naturally many of my dreams are painted with the tragedies found whirling around hospitals. I'd like to know so that I can keep up with other DJ's that may have similar influences as mine. Anybody?

I used to work as a kennel girl/vet tech assistant/receptionist for a veterinary clinic. I didn't keep a dream journal back then but I did jot down a couple of dreams. I know during the time that because the majority of my time, thoughts, and efforts were spent in the clinic, a lot of my dreams began reflecting surgeries, cleaning cages, bandaging, giving medicine, dealing with caution animals, etc. Now that I think about it I am upset I didn't keep a better DJ back then! I don't have dreams about the clinic anymore, it's been three years since I worked there.

I think there is a large gaming culture because the majority of the members seem to be aged around 15-18, and an online community of that age tends to be the sort of people who like video games and anime, and those sorts of people seem to be more open to discussing dreams in general.

Sure...on this forum at least. There are other LD forums where this is not the case. I think video games and the culture that revolves around it are very visual and "magic." Both of these are skills that greatly enhance LD's. I say magic in relation to waking life. Dreams are very magical comared to waking life. There are no rules...the reailty of a dream bends what's possible in reality...just as video games do. People who spend much attention on these alternate virtual realities carry that over into their dreams. To them LD's are nothing more than the ultimate video game. They get to actually be the characters they play on the computer or television.

I believe that LD's are a gateway into the subconscious, and I equate that to spirtual progress. LD's, IMO, allow for a exponential rise in understanding who you are...what your experiences have made you. I don't care to LD to fulfill fanasy. I'm interested in the possibility for spiritual evolution through empirical experiences that are varified by my conscious self.

I'm interested in people who experience real life trauma...who experience the reality of the gore that happens in video games. This experience greatly influenced my dream world. My waking life is insane because I deal with death and trauma on the streets, and so my dreams reflect that. My subconscious has no choice but to deal with the extreme traumas in life. I'm looking for those who are willing to dig deep into the human condition and not simply play with "killing" people and creatures in their dreams like they do in the virtual video game. On this forum I have not met too many people interested in digging deeply into the human condition. Mainly I have just seen fantasy being played out in dreams. Anybody?

I want to make it clear that I'm not downgrading what the younger (and older) gamers aspire to in recreating their video games. I'm just probing for those on this forum who are interested in dealing with the heaviness involved in the trauma and suffering of real life. This is what burns up fantasy in the fires of innevitability and creates true onieranauts (no offense to he who carries this archetypical name). If nobody here is interested in dissecting the suffering inherent in the human condition than I am simply passing through. I would love to grow in awareness with all who are interested. I would also cherish the knowledge that those more knowing than I are willing to pass on. I think humility is the pennacle of willingness in this game we all play...in this reality we must all deal in. I do not intend to insult any fellow dreamers with my ramblings on.

A lot of people lament that the site has been getting 'worse and worse' in that aspect, myself included Living a video game or having super powers in a LD is fun, but it seems like anyone who used them for much else and engaged in in-depth discussion about it is no longer around, and the overwhelming majority of internet savvy oneironauts and those more open to using the internet to discuss are those who are younger and as you've said, transfer what they've experienced in games and shows and movies to their lucids (myself included, although I am interested in other aspects of LDing as well).

I don't know. I view my dreams as escape from reality. I wouldn't want to tarnish what they do for me, personally.
