Dream about hearing a voice

I had this dream a few years ago and I've started thinking about it again. There's only part I remember and it's being in a white space, not being able to see anything. However, I heard a guy's voice say a name, "Smith, John, Smith" (name has been changed). It was my coworker's voice saying his name. A few days later I learned this coworker committed suicide the night of my dream. I was never close to this coworker and said hi only a few times. Any idea of interpretation?

Could there be a similar situation happening now or recently? Not someone about to suicide, but a co-worker or other who you don't know but could?

In dreams, this sort of phenomena is referred to as "hypnogogic imagery." Hearing voices falls under a category called "auditory." It is quite common, people also have both precognitive and prophetic dreams while in this state.

Yours sounds more precog than prophetic due to the timeline. Precog dreams usually occur within 24 hours to months after the dream. However, prophetic dreams, usually, occur months to decades in and there is often another (unknown) dreamer with similar to identical symbols found in the dreams.
