Scent in dreams

I have to say my favourite kinds of dreams are dreams with a scent. There really neat sometime I don't remember any detail from the dream, but I remember the scent. Its stays with the whole day, other times I remember the whole dream, the smell stays with me the same way. It's always a good smell... Last night I had a dream involving maple syrup (dream journal entry 03/28/2008 New Body) and all day, even with having no connection to it. It's all I could smell. (it was wonderful) Is there a reason I remember the smells all day long? Does anyone have dream like this or involving other senses?

I think that all f our sensory output is magnificent in dreams. It is hard for me to rate them. But would have to agree the scent does have a huge impact. "Stop and smell the roses."
It makes you want to do just that after you have a great dream with vivid scenes that you recall.

I've heard that smell is the strongest sense for bringing back memories so I could see why it would stay with you. I don't think I've ever smelt anything in a dream personally.

Scent is the strongest sense tied to memory, though I often don't remember smells after my dream, even if I say something in the dream like, "Wow, that smells good!"

wow. i never thought about it but I don't recall having ever smelled anything in dreams...i'll double-check next chance I get.

Funny to read this, this morning...because I had a dream about drinking coffee last night...and I remember smelling it and being at work.

Well wouldn't you know, I am currently at work, drinking my coffee...and it smells just like my dream! I actually RC'ed earlier just to make sure. ;)

Ahhhhhh smell that coffee!!!!!!!!!

Yaaaa if you guys become lucid try to make that one of your efforts or tasks. To consciously use your sensory input in lucid dreams seems to magnify the effect. Smell, sight, taste.
This seems evident in many cases, not just myself.

Hearing? I had never thought about hearing too much. :P
If you think about it, hearing is all in your head. They all are really but magnified hearing is not like the other senses, vivid colors, exaggerated tastes our strong odors.
