How many do people usually experience a week?
Myself, none. Ever. I've never, ever experienced noticeable sleep paralysis, even during my WILDs.
It varies greatly for different people.
Is the frequency of your SP unusual? Probably, yess. But, to my knowledge, there's nothing bad about it or harmful in any way.
"Loud"? How do you mean?
No, by "frequency" I meant how often you get SP.
As for the ringing sound, I think that's normal too. I wouldn't stress about it too much, SP is completely natural. All that's happening is you're waking up and your body is having a bit of a delayed reaction getting rid of the SP is all.
I used to wake up in Sleep Paralysis nearly every night. And more often than not I'd get it several times a night. It was REALLY annoying but the only sure fire way I had to slip into a LD.
Don't get it anymore. Shortly after seriously trying to LD I suddenly realized it was gone. I do, however, get a sleep paralysis type feeling at the beginning of some of my WILDs. And it's still an annoyance in dreams because I have to struggle out of the paralysis before I can take advantage of my lucidity.
For me, Sleep Paralysis several times a week or night was normal. But after researching it a bit I found out that it isn't normal and some consider it a sleeping disorder.
thx for the info blue and vex.
I used to get it when I was younger. The highest frequency I've had was about 5 a month, and those came sometime before the age of 12. After that it died down a lot, to once or twice every few months.
Now I induce SP, so I have it quite often again :content:
Rarely do I ever get SP upon waking anymore.
I think the reason I got them when I was younger was because I designed a method to end my nightmares. It was me closing my eyes in my dream, and focusing on the region where my mind's eye is (I did not know what I was doing back then except that it worked), but sometimes it would involve me waking up in SP, a very terrifying experience when I was younger. I always brushed them off as nightmares though.
Take advantage of it. When you are in this stage, there is the possibility of having and OBE. Try to separate yourself from your body. Pull away and see what happens.
Have you suffered any neck or ear injuries..? Do you take any form of medication..? How would you rate your stress level in life on a scale of 1-10..?
These factors may significantly contribute to the frequency of sleep paralysis.. something that the general population experience typically once or twice in a lifetime - hence, it is not normal to experience it so frequent during a week. I would say you should go to a doctor.
I used to faint and hallucinate quite frequently which motivated me to seek a doctor's opinion. It did help but essentially I realised that it was almost entirely psychosomatic. Hopefully, that is your case as well. Otherwise, there is something physically wrong with you..

I can get sp everyday if I wanted to...yet no lucid dreams lol
every time i try to wild i never even make it to sp :(
I do i just dont know how to finish it...but ill try again tonight
Iv'e been doing some research on dreaming lately for a project, and have discovered this: Every night, you enter sleep paralysis. This keeps you from acting out your dreams. So, the act of your body paralysing itself is a safety measure. Waking up while you are still paralyzed doesn't happen a lot, and I don't see why it should be harmful. If you are deeply concerned about it, see a doctor. If not, I'd just let it slide.
I honestly don't think I've ever experienced sleep paralysis even though I want to so much because I want to know what it feels like. I remember once hearing a weird low monotonic sound for a while and making it return a few times after it died away but nothing in terms of actual "paralysis" I don't think.
I've only experienced SP once that I can remember. I broke my arm snowboarding and I was on some Hydrocodon. The first day, after they set my arm in the cast, I was really drowsy and drugged up. I took a nap on my bed in my dorm room and then I saw a student come into my room making a creepy smiling face. I didn't know him personally, but I knew who he was. I couldn't move and I was scared so I started cussing at him and telling him to get out. After I woke up, I wasn't even sure if it had even happened. I think I was hallucinating b/c of the drugs and stuff. It was weird. I've never had any SP naturally though.
i've never felt my body entering SP, and i dont think ive ever had it while waking up either.
