Thread: Dreamt about words I barely don't understand

I had a dream about words I heard or being told to me. I do not understand these words.
As soon as I wake up, I placed it on my note to check on google afterwards.

Words state: Animus teribus peribus

When I searched it on google, these are latin words. I don't know how to speak this language or even understand it but it has different meanings and I just couldn't seem to figure out what this means.

Anyone who knows what the dream might mean?

I can't find Teribus as a latin word? It sounds to me like Teribus and Peribus are sort of repetitions - echoes of the closing sound of Animus - you know, the way people make up comedy words that are supposed to sound Latin by putting an "us" on the end? Mel Brooks used to do it in movies - especially History of the World Part 1. Dreams are good at amplifying things to show you they're really important - either making something get bigger or multiplying it. For instance it's very common for people to dream of seeing something like a snake, then then they notice more of them on the ground, and more, until the whole landscape is writhing with them. Or maybe a snake or spider that's gigantic to amplify the fear factor or the importance.

I suspect you saw or heard the word Animus somewhere and the dream wanted to show you that it's important, so it multiplied it - created 2 more nonsense soundalike words to echo it and impress it into your memory better.

However I do think there's some meaning to Teribus. It sounds like Terrible, but with that comedy Latin ending stuck on. The mind works in associations like that - since the first word is Latin, it made the 2 repetitions also sound latin, but it wanted to add the sense of terribleness or terror to Animus. Peribus seems to mean "All other things being equal", which is sort of meaningless in this context as far as I can tell. So it seems like the idea the subconscious is trying to get across is Terrible Animus.

So the first meaning fits with Terrible - a terrible hostility. The second meaning is also sort of the same thing - a terrible spirit or attitude. Does that fit anything going on in your life? And the third one is still sort of the same thing. It's Jung's term for the inner masculine spirit of a woman. Women have a masculine spirit inside called the Animus, men have a feminine one called the Anima. It's basically your soul, your connection to the inner world or to divinity or whatever you want to call it. That connection can be either positive or negative, depending on what kind of relations you've had with the opposite sex throughout your life. If your relations tend to be good then you've got a positive Animus or Anima - if not then it's negative, in which case if fits well with Teribus (if that means terrible or terror).

However, I just can't seem to understand how this word came into my subconscious and dreams without even hearing it before? Can this be an inner soul or being trying to communicate with me?

One possibility - there's a big thread going on about Jung and his theories - words like Animus are getting thrown around pretty freely. If you check in here a lot you may well have seen it. Even if you've never actually read any posts on the thread, you most likely have seen the little snippets that show up on the Read New page or the Live Posts page. Quite likely you did and just don't remember it.

One thing about Jung - his main idea is that what people call the supernatural or the spiritual are actually glimpses of the unconscious that feel strange and alien to us, and this explains religions, fairy tales and myths. People were trying to explain these insistent ideas that well up from inside, but that seem to be coming from 'out there' somewhere (because the unconscious is very strange and doesn't seem to be "inside" at all) - so they've always explained them as ghosts, religious figures, demons, aliens, entities, or other strange phenomenon.

How this word came into your subconscious and dreams without even hearing it before could mean what you don't understand, or to listen to your soul or original self, as Latin is an original or root language. Or the answers are there. Maybe you thought such a thing before.

I agree with Darkmatters. The phrase "animus teribus peribus" is nonsensical, which is very typical of dream texts, so it isn't true that you dreamt about words without prior knowledge of them. Rather, you dreamt of a single world, one that is meaningless without any further context, and of which you claim to have no recollection of.

Our brains are not meant to remember everything we see. Human memory is notoriously unreliable. Nobody in this thread can claim with 100% certainty that they haven't come across the word "animus" in the last week, and that goes for me as well. You probably don't recall the moment you first heard the word "bazooka" or "dream", but that is no reason to believe you attained this information in an extraordinary or supernatural way either. We don't remember those sorts of things, because it would be wasteful.

So how likely is it that you did see this word without consciously remembering it? Well, the word "animus" is not especially rare. In the highly popular game series Assassins Creed, "animus" is a name given to a fictional virtual reality device. The psychological term put forward by Carl Jung, as mentioned above by Darkmatters, has also been discussed quite recently on Youtube. In fact, it was recently touched upon by clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson, with regards to his notorious Channel 4 interview, which is a very hot topic right now (especially in the press). Darkmatters also pointed out that Jung is discussed on this website. So overall, if you are involved in social media, news, gaming, or you engage in off-topic discussions here on Dreamviews, there is a reasonable chance that you have seen the word "animus" at some point over the last few years.

Thank you. Yea I might have come across with the word before. I have recently joined this site so I have not actually read the threads prior to the dream and I also don’t play games. But thank you for the explanation. I am also not saying this could mean some supernatural thing. I might have seen the word somewhere and subconsciously remembered.
