Would you trade your waking life for a Dream ? I would :D

Ever wondered how things would have been like if tides changed and dreaming become more important that reality?. Imagine a world where people didn't care about real life as much as they care about their dream life. I asked my self this question and my answer was yes indeed i would trade my life for a dream.
Physical reality is not an immediate reflection of the self , things often happen regardless of your expectations , the pain reward ratio is totally not worth it , and changing something you don't like is as hard as trying to tolerate it, your just a tiny drop of water in a vast ocean. while in a dream your the ocean and the sea , your the whole world, your the architect of your environment and every thing is a direct reflection of what you expect . Doing anything wont heart anybody or interfere with anybody's needs or preferences, everybody can have his own private world custom made for himself , everything you want just appears with a command of your mind, you don't have to work 700 hours for 7 dollars an hour to afford a short trip to Hawaii , you just go to Hawaii. Also one would learn the lessons life have to offer in a much faster rate in a experimental environment were you can play with the rules them self's. Of coarse i know what am saying is theoretical and surely there is a reason why life is the way it is. But if i was to choose now to live in this world or to live in a dream i would defiantly live in a dream , WHAT ABOUT YOU ?

I prefer both of them because two different world completes each other :)

No, I wouldn't. I equate trading the real world for a dream world to using a big cheat on a game. Sure now you've pretty much beat the game, and you can get whatever you want. But if you've ever done this, you'll realize it gets real boring real fast. The game has no appeal anymore, because you skipped working for all the good things and instead just had them handed to you. Minus the fact I'd never replace my real life loved ones for fakes in a dream, I'd find being able to control everything about my dream life to be very boring and not at all worth it.

No. I'd rather improve waking life so I wouldn't be as inclined to replace it with a dream duplicate. Sure, the fancy powers would be nice. But as many people here will tell you, even things that were initially amazing like flying will get boring after enough time has passed. I think in the long run, we'd get bored with the dream life.

I understand were you stand dream ghost , but your answer is a reflection of your life experience , for me my life is boring as hell , am expected to study for 6 hours a day , go to college for 7 hours and the rest of the day worry about the final exams (am a med student) watch people suffer and die every day , people screaming and crying and wailing there diseased loved ones. I prefer to create artificial loved ones than real loved ones and watch them suffer and die and also watch the love die from the horrible life circumstances as for working for all the good things my reward system is pretty messed up , i feel nothing for my accomplishments and i only do them for fear or punishment and loss of social value . I dont feel wrong about using a cheat in this world ,since cheating is the rule to begin with , in my lucid world i will let people have equal chances and start from the same starting point. I know all what am saying is wrong but its the way i see things now with my limited scope ,surely god has better plans than me.

Life has as many ups as it does downs. You're not experiencing anything that people haven't found solutions to before that didn't involve lucid dreaming. Is what you're going through really so complicated that you can't find a way to fix or improve it? Some things you can't change, like bad traffic. The only option in those situations is to improve how you deal with the many stresses life has.

It's not that you can't fix what's wrong in your life, it's just that you don't want to bad enough, or don't think you can. If that wasn't true, you wouldn't be here contemplating how to create another world for you to live in.

Can't say I'm sorry if this sounds rude, because somebody has to tell you this. Who am I to tell you this? Let's just say you're not the only guy who thought his life wasn't the best worth having. Maybe you'll think about what I said, maybe you won't. But you can't say you never knew it was well within your ability to improve your life. Excuses to me are like shackles. They're only good for one thing: holding you back.

Interesting question. I'd have to say no. Simply because I think it will become lonely at some point. I think, for you to truly love someone(Except for yourself), you cannot have total control over them. I think over time, I would realize that DC just isn't enough, as long as I know that, in the end, it's just myself.

I would however sign for trading for a fixed amount of time. Even if it's very long. Like a thousand years. I guess there is a limit though.

I think this was explained pretty well in The Matrix: the original Matrix was perfect, and people ended up rejecting it. Humans feel they need suffering in order to make things worthwhile, or real. So I expect the dream world would become boring after a while, or seem false. But this is an interesting thread, lucidusorbis. I would not mind making my dream experiences longer, lol!

Personally I would for the constantly recurring dream world I have had for years.

The difference with mine, is that my entire dream world is a reality in its own right. I am myself although younger and a budding (as in soon to be signed major label) musician. I could describe it perfectly. There's a central city in a valley below mountains and the city is in a circular setup, a country, some further mountains where my "country home" is and a beach where a huge resort is. Think Caprica type design. Lots of concrete and glass. Every time I'm there I know all of the train stops, both regional and city transit and know the city fully as well as the country and beach. I am younger, into my early 20's and know everyone in that reality. My son is my son there as well. Everyone I know has some form of relationship with me and I have had ups and downs, as well as major pain. Someone who was close to me there was murdered.

In this world life is life. I don't have nor want any super powers or anything. It's just another reality as far as I'm concerned. I have a job and work when I'm not working on my music. If it was the world is trade, then yes I would.

You nailed it Threecat Humans feel they need suffering in order to make things worthwhile, even in physical reality when things get better for them they get depressed and feel guilty about having a nice life, perhaps we came to life to learn to accept bliss and happiness with no suffering when we know how suffering look like .

Your view is pretty similar to mine , i have an even better suggestion which is total control of the length of a dream , like you can come and go whenever you want , you want it to last a year fine ,8 hours fine, forever fine, i think no one could say no to controlling the length of there dreams .

Certainly not! What a lonely existence. You truly believe that you would learn wisdom at a faster rate if you could constantly experiment? I think wisdom comes to us by relating to the world around us. Gleaning new experiences in life and interacting with alien viewpoints are keys to expanding our minds.

All I can think about in relation to this is the sailor in the Chronicles of Narnia, the Voyage of the Dawn Treader. He's trapped on an island where "all your dreams come true," which sounds perfect to the rescuers, until they realize the staggering implications of living in a world where your imagination is the truth. I don't know about you guys, but I'm aware that my subconscious has been filled with a lot of darkness over my life. Sometimes I'm glad to be in the real world, where things are more simple and concrete. Suffering is an integral part of the world, yes, but it also serves to strip us of the illusion that actions have no consequence.

Last point: living in a dream would be like tripping on the world's most potent drug, all by yourself, forever. People can go mad in solitary confinement, why wouldn't you in a place where you ruled and the only people that you could love and receive love from were created by your own mind? It's a delicious idea but in practice, it would be horrendous.

I think Waking-life has just as many positives as LD-live, you may not do superhuman stuff but the actions you do have a true impact. There's history, individuality and much more that lacks in the Dream-world.
