Okay, I'm well acquainted with some of the merits of lucid dreaming, and I enjoy doing it when I can. The last two times, I took advantage of the opportunity to have sex with a perfect human being and to eat an entire pastry shop full of desserts (since I knew they had no calories). However, lucid dreams are usually rare for me, and sometimes, I think I like it that way.
Recently, I dreamed I was running impossibly fast through a harbor-side city, and suddenly I was doing superhuman parkour in a way that only Spiderman would be able to. On another occasion, I was tasked with convincing recalcitrant space colonists to leave a dying lunar colony. The technology I saw there was amazing. On yet another occasion, I was 20 years back in time, attending class at my high school. In the dream, I KNEW I had time traveled, and I immensely enjoyed the experience (I couldn't even open my locker until I remembered the correct combination, which I verified upon waking up.) None of these dreams were lucid, and I think I preferred them that way. They just wouldn't have been the same experience.
Sometimes it's nice to wake up and feel like you've journeyed back from another life. Being lucid can make you feel like you just spent a few minutes on a holodeck as yourself.
