Dreaming of 'being with' someone who in real life is not possible...

Basically, in most of my dreams, both lucid and non lucid. I dream about my best friend. I often dream that I'm either - chasing him, - in love with him like a partner, or - with him sexually.

The thing that irritates me is my best friend is totally off limits in real life. (Has a long term GF, has no interest in being with guys etc)

It's not that he's a guy - I'm quite comfortable with being gay. But the fact is I see him nearly everyday, and I haven't told him about my dreams about him.

It's kind of driving me mad! Why do I keep going there when I know it's never gonna happen?

Just because you know it's impossible in waking life, doesn't mean it's weird to dream about. If anything it's the opposite, for me at least it's common to dream mostly about things that are less likely to happen to me for real. Try not to let it bother you!

From my knowledge, seems like you want to be with him but can't. The dream gives you what you want but it's your subconciousness showing you on what you are thinking about in waking life. Which leads to you waking up and think about him more, etc.

At least in dreams you can be with him any way you want, particularly if your imagination is good. In real life it's hard to deal with knowing we can't have some of our greatest desires, but there are no limits in dreams. I say use techniques to help you enjoy the fantasies.

Someday someone will come along that will make you forget about him, or at least distract you enough to have some different dreams.

It's not wrong to like someone so much that they are on your mind frequently. The only wrong thing would be to deny who you are and what you feel.
