It is possible to smell things. I don't smell often in dreams, but when I do things usually smell normal. I also feel pain, but it's never the same amount of pain I would experience if I was awake. |

Yeah, it's definitely possible to be able to smell things, both in lucids and regular dreams (same with the other 4 senses). Usually I don't go around sniffing stuff in my LDs, and instead touch things to help stabilize the dream. But sometimes if I'm lucid and I'm focused, I passively notice smells like rubber and toast. I've felt really bad, realistic pain in regular dreams (not in lucids though, because I'm in control of the dream and my own body). I have also felt sharp, and again realistic pain during sleep paralysis once. |

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I smell and taste in my dreams, usually. That's only if there is something of note, or when I'm eating (which doesn't happen often in dreams, but when I do, I can taste the food. I specifically remember eating raspberries in one dream which were just as delicious as real life.) |

The pinch reality check doesn't work for me at all, and I think a lot of people would agree! |

Ow... yeah pain for me is often just as realistic as in real life (In rare cases I have even had pain hurt MORE than I have in real life, though I don't even understand how that can happen). Smell is usually a sign that my dreams are extremely vivid, as that is probably the sense I notice the least when in dreams. I have noticed it before, but more often than not I don't. |
