I have no idea how old I was, but honestly the very first dream I remember having was one, where I was particularly little, where my mother was changing a diaper of mine on their bed in my old house. As she was changing it, she was making noise, but I didn't know what it was. (Talking?)

As she was changing my diaper, I started seeing these 2D octopi and other little cartoon animals floating all over the place. It scared me really bad, but I don't remember what I woke up to when I awoke.

      That's why I don't remember how old I was.

Do you think it's possible to recall a dream from when I was literally a baby, especially 15-16 years later? I've remembered it as my first dream for as long as I can think. It's stuck with me because I've told it to so many people, even when I was back in preschool I wrote about it in a journal. I wrote it because I thought it was real, and I did continue to think it was real until I was about six.

When I think about it, it's like that was really the first dream I ever had. I didn't realize it was a dream, and that strikes me as strange. It's like I didn't know what dreams were when I had the dream.

Yeah, as I said in my post, you can't tell the difference between dreams and reality, even fantasies while awake. Which is why kids have imaginary friends. You start to distinguish the difference at about 5-7 years old iirc.

So before your earliest memory would most likely be really fucked up stuff you can't comprehend. Plus the brain, afawk, doesn't start forming memories until later on.
