Yeah, I used to do this when I had a straightaway I could walk down with my eyes closed. It becomes more vivid over time. I've started practicing this (Mostly when half asleep, as HI helps) again, and it seems that it's easier to control it then to just let my thoughts flow. As long as it is constantly moving, or a fixed image, never a slow constant movement.
For example, I hallucinated that two firebenders (From Avatar: The Last Airbender) were fighting each other, and choreographed the whole fight. Later in that same session (A road trip where I essentially pretended I was sleeping and just visualized the whole time, in 30 min intervals) I had a conversation with myself about why religions often use the term ascension to denote a better place or a good person or whatnot (like the rapture, heavens, The father in the clouds etc etc).
It's definitely fun to play with, and I think it could easily help with dream control and lucidity through WILDs for people who try it.
