Thanks Jeff and Twoshadows. You guys are awesome!

[soapbox] Seriously, if I'm able to do this, anyone can. When I'd try to change my eating habits, my motivation would last about 3-4 days before I'd find myself eating the same stuff I always was. Being a part of a group of people who are all trying to lose weight and in general desire to live healthier lives has made all the difference. Even if I'm not always on track, especially when it comes to exercising, every week I'm reminded of my desire to live better and that has helped me to at least think of what I'm doing when I eat and when I'm just sitting somewhere.

I'm getting closer to my goal and I love it. If I can do it, so can you. Srsly.

Open Question to DV Fit Clubbers: I have a six pack (abs) already...thing is they BARELY show because of the layer of fat on top. What foods should I consume so that my abs stand out more? All answers welcome.

Aww Ame's that just wonderful And to be completely honest...this club is motivating me because I feel that if I don't weigh in as often as I should...others within the club are noticing (not to mention my buddy is keeping tabs on me and rating me which is what buddies are supposed to do). In addition to that...I hear stories like yours and the feats that the others are accomplishing and feel pumped to go out there and do it myself.

Go ahead and do it! I'm going to post some B & A's as soon as I get a camera. If anything, it shows off progress as well as forces others to keep us accountable for the goals we've set for ourselves.

Zhaylin: I'm sorry to hear you've been under the weather . Good thing you've been posting reports round the clock in days past to compensate for a little "down" time .

MoS: Great work buddy Though, let's start staying on each other about our work though. Monitoring to extremes...if you don't stay true to the regiment you've set for yourself, I will be asking questions. I expect the same treatment!

Sandy: Barely gotten a full membership and you're already cardio'ing it up . Keep it up bro...that 2 hour cardio session made me smile.

Mystery: What can I say? You seem to be on the ball!

      I hope I didn't leave out anyone.

Catch: Must have a picture taken of yourself on a scale every 7 days (starting no later than 3 weeks from the start day) so that we may keep visual track of your progress. (face not required to be shown but your name must be written down on paper and be visible within the picture.) Also must have paypal account. And yes...this is real.

If you are entering this competition. You can only enter this competition by saying so.

      Requirements:

      - Must consistently keep updating your log on the days you've set for working out.
      - Must verbally state within the club that you are entering this competition.
      - Must have paypal account.

Prize offering starts 2/14/2009 and ends 4/14/2009.

Edit: This club is not only about losing weight, but eating healthy, building muscle/tone and maintaining a fit lifestyle. Different competitions will be held from time to time to add incentive towards completing ones goals. If you've set a goal for yourself to lose weight or tone up your abs...why not get a cash prize for it in the process? Some competitions may be something along the lines of "Turn your 4 pack into a 6 pack", "Tone those arms" etc. All competitions will be something easily verifiable by pictures, camera and if needed...both.

Well, I'm not a pro at this. But since I am in the same situation, I'll share what I am going to do.

Since I want to gain muscle, I want to eat a decent amount of lean protein.

So for my meat I can eat lean steak. For ground beef, I got some lean cuts of meat--in my case london broil because it was on sale--and had the butcher cut off all visible fat and then grind it, then I divided it up into individual servings and put them in the freezer, so I can take them out one at a time. I do the same with chicken breast. I cook up a bunch and divide them and freeze it. I sometimes eat things like shrimp for variety.

For things like eggs, to cut back on fat you can cook up several whites with one yolk.

I also like fat free cottage cheese on salads.

Then besides lean proteins I'll mostly fill up on fruits and veggies, because those are good for fiber and nutrition/vitamins.

Then there are starches which I am going to temporarily stay away from. But if you choose to eat them stick to things like beans, whole wheat bread instead of white, brown rice instead of white...and just those kind of common sense choices.

I am completely staying away from sugars. If I need anything sweetened I use a tiny bit of stevia.

Oh, and also eat small mini meals through out the day (they usually say 6) instead of just a couple of really heavy meals.

      And don't eat after 7:00.

So anyway, that's my plan. We'll see if I can lose that layer of fat by doing this....(and all the exercise).

Edit: And if possible stay away from all fast foods!

      Zhalyn: Get well soon!

Jeff777: When I tried using foods to loose the stomach fat, I ended up with losing my cheecks, while the fat's still there. After a while everyone thought I lost weight, but somehow only my cheecks were lost. Without serious running or swimming you can hardly accomplish anything, really.

      By the way...

I will be leaving town this afternoon until Saturday night. I don't know if I will be able to post or not. So if you don't hear from me, that's why. But I'll still be eating right and exercising. I'll give my report when I get back.

I haven't been doing regular exercises daily, simply because I don't have the time, nor the energy after coming home from working. Plus I really don't think I could stand my muscles being any more sore than they already are at then of the day.

      Name (Username suffices): Josh
Cardio workout(s) done this week: I walk about a mile or so in the mornings and again in the evening, plus climbing up and down ladders all day.
Weight workout(s) done this week: I did do some pull-ups and chinups early in the week, as well as 60x4 reps of grippers every other day or so, and carrying concrete blocks in a pinch grip for as long as I can hold them.
Areas of body worked this week: Just about everything.
Current weight: 145lbs, far as I know. I'll weigh myself on one of those dime scales next time I'm out somewhere that has one.
      Current buddy: Jeff777
Foods consumed today: Peanut butter sandwich on homemade white wheat bread for breakfast, one and a half humongous burritos and a piece of cake for lunch (my mom has been making us lunch every day and bringing it over. Yesterday was 16 bean soup) and a chicken breast with fried onions and potatoes for supper.
Drinks consumed today: A few swallows of OJ in the morning, 72 oz of water throughout the day (haven't drank that much water in ages, I'm finally drinking enough!) and a glass of sweet tea at supper. Oh, and a Coke *coughwithBacardicough* just now.
Buddy's performance as a buddy (1/10): 9/10 - Could check in more often, but so could I!
      Rate your buddy's progress (1/10): 9/10 - Sounds like you're doing great.
Rate your own progress: (1/10): 7/10 - I need to work on triceps, lats, and burn some flab off so that I can see my abs, like Jeff.

Sorry I haven't been checking in every day: it's not because I haven't been doing anything, quite the opposite. I never realized how much work roofing is! My legs are getting really toned; I'm constantly up and down off my knees, crouching, or up and down a ladder, often carrying loads. My back is developing slowly but surely, and my arms are progressing well I think. Abs are on their way to a four-pack, at the least.

My goals are to continue to exert myself every day, test my limits, and of course include such things as crunches, push-ups, pull-ups, chin-ups, and the like. I also need to drink more water and eat more vegetables and fruit, along with less sugar. I'd like to keep getting up early and going to bed at a decent hour, but maybe 7-8:00am might be more reasonable than 6:30am if I'm not working.

And Jeff, I'll try to watch you more closely, and you do the same to me. I appreciate it! I haven't been on MSN much lately due to not being online much period, but that should change soon I hope.
