I've been lax on my last few weekly reports. I'll try to remember to write up a more official summary later on.
I'm back down to 222, having lost a pound from last Tuesday (having gained a pound from a week before that). So, I'm feeling good!

Cool, MOS, I hope you can get a kayak someday. Yeah, there is nothing like that feeling....
Mine is little Perception Swifty. I got it used from a friend. It's only 9.5 feet so it is easy to transport--and that was important to me. So it isn't anything fancy, but it does what I want.
I had a great time on the lake today. I took pictures. And yes, I made sure my friend took full length pictures of me. So I'll post those soon (don't have those downloaded)
I'm leaving very early in the morning to visit my sister that has cancer. I'll be gone a few days. I'm not sure what my workout schedule will be. But at least I had a really good workout today kayaking. I'm going to try to keep up the good eating.
Good luck to everyone.
See you in a few days.

Grats on your loss Ame! Hope you have a great visit TwoShadows, sorry to hear your sister's ill :(
I have had another completely worthless day. I forgot to write yesterday that I had also taken 1/2 a valium to knock out a horribly wicked headache. But despite my fatigue and the med, I did not sleep at all. Until my shows were on and I was relaxed watching the Mentalist *grrrr* Thank goodness for Hulu lol. But I awoke, on my own just 3 hours later. I'm hungry, but Mother Hubbard's Cubbard's are nearly bare and I don't go shopping until later Wednesday evening. I was also cold, having left the AC on from earlier in the day when the heat in the RV was stiffling.
For what it's worth, here's my report:

Ah, that's what I thought it was, from your pictures. A nice little roustabout boat, from all I've heard. I was looking at an Old Town Otter Sport myself. ...but I guess we're straying off-topic. :D
Get those pics up when you can, and hope your sister is doing well, Twoshadows!
I've been slacking a little lately. I did chin-ups and back presses yesterday, but not many of either. However, I did get in a lot of walking, 2-3 miles or so I imagine.
Must go to work now. Got pictures to take and a ropes course to set up!

Mood: 6 I made it to a congregation meeting tonight- all but the last 20 or so minutes. It's the first I've been to in a couple of months and it felt great being back. There were a LOT of empty seats though :( There's a horrible "bug" going around, so a lot of them may have gotten it. My hubby has blisters on the back of his throat. He takes Amoxacillin every day for an ulcer and has for years. I reminded the good doctor that he's probably immune to them and might need to try something else to get rid of what looks like strep (sp) throat.

He's 64 years old and says this is the worst sore throat he's ever had and he's getting a couch on top of that... so I've not been to his house except to drop off my blood pressure machine, a thermometer and an Icee earlier this evening. I'll have to brave the germs for my laundry however :?
A little of this, a little of that, really. Most of the time I photograph and help set up team-building workshops for a company called Pine Mountain Adventures, which is owned by my neighbor. High ropes courses (climbing walls, tightrope-like exercises, etc.), canoeing, hiking, scavenger hunts, games ranging from group juggling to trust exercises with mouse traps, that sort of thing. I also designed, and run, the company website as well as do freelance web design and development work, with a bit of graphic design when I feel in the mood.
It really is a lot of fun, and I get to spend a lot of time outdoors doing the things I love to do like canoeing and photography, so I love it. There's usually some good exercise in it as well.
I've been doing grippers, back presses and chin-ups, but I'm slacking on push-ups and crunches. I'll post a more detailed thingamabob tomorrow.
I am so jealous of you MoS! When hubby and I were in Hawaii this past January, we went on a ... argh, what is it called... a zip line adventure. For people who rarely ever exercise the event should have killed us lol. It was brutal because it was on relatively flat land so we had to climb very steep platforms to zip across ocean views. It was incredibly fun and hubby joked that we should make our own at our farm. We have over 83 acres of gorgeous woods on top of the mountain (think rolling hills though). It would make an excellent place.
I had an incredibly lazy day "today" (I normally count my days from the time I wake up until I go to sleep). I accomplished absolutely nothing and I've been awake since around 1 yesterday afternoon.

Welcome shroom, thedogsmeow, and Dizko. Congrats on the decision to make health and fitness a priority.
Thanks, MoS. I had a great time with my sister. She is feeling much better than the last time I visited. She was even feling good enough to teach me how to make jewelry--which is one of her favorite hobbies/talents. So that was awesome.
I ate well while I was away, but I didn't get any formal exercising in. I have to make up for that this week. But my jeans are fitting looser, so something's working.
I don't have any really good pictures of myself from the kayaking trip. I have now downloaded them and have taken a good look. But I'll post one that I thought turned out cool. My friend and I did some hiking at the end of the canyon that we kayaked in. We found a few places where beams of sunlight shone down, and we had fun taking pictures of each other in the beam.
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w.../IMG_2845a.jpg
I have more kayaking pics in my dream journal if anyone is interested (that's where I always post my pictures).
WOW! What an amzing view TwoShadows!!!
I'm glad to hear your sister is feeling better.
You're welcome, Dizko. I used to keep a tiny composition notebook where I would record all that info and MORE every single day. I got out of the habit because writing up those suckers for a month in advance was very tiresome lol and now I don't have to. I saved a template to my desktop so all I have to do is copy/paste it here and fill in the details :D
Now if I could actually start doing more actual EXERCISING instead of just recording my mood, meds and health I'll be on the right track
Thanks Twoshadows. Your trip sounds like it was a lot of fun! Those are nice pictures.
I have fallen off the bandwagon these past couple days, eating some junk food. Not that eating junk food is bad, but I tend to go overboard, especially with chocolate.
Also, it has been very cold over the weekend, making it difficult to get outside and exercise. I will be trying to resume healthy eating habits this week.
I thought of something that might help all of us who are trying to lose weight. If someone could post an inspirational quote like once a week or something, that we could focus on to help motivate us :) Here's a website I found with motivational quotes: http://www.motivateus.com
Here's a good quote I found:
"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other thing." - Abraham Lincoln
I think this is a great quote because it's important to have self motivation when trying to better yourself or lose weight.
Nice link and great idea, TheDogsMeow.

And yeah, the views are so amazing. Everytime I'm there I always say, 'Is there any where else in the world that is this beautiful?"
Thedogsmeow--I like the quote idea. I'll keep my eye out for quotes that motivate me.
And Everyone... is anyone else going to post pictures? I have another picture that I took today that I can post. But it is a little awkward when no one else is posting pictures (except Zhaylin who was the very brave first one). I'm sure you young guys have nothing to be embarrassed about--throw up some pictures, so mine don't stand out. :D
Okay....
I have been thinking again about my diet and how to improve it (I do this alot :)). I think it's time to cut back on the meat again. I'm not really a meat person. I added meat to my diet for the protein because I started lifting weights ( I had gone two years before that with out eating meat). I don't think I will completley eliminate it, but seriously cut back. I'll get my protein from egg whites, cottage cheese, nuts etc. And I think I'll get some protein powder to supplement.
I also want to get into the habit again of making green drinks in the morning and drinking them through out the day. I make green drinks by stuffing all the vegetables--Spinach, spring mix, cucumber, celery, zuccini, etc-- that I can fit into my blender and adding a little fruit (berries, mostly) and blending it to the consistancy of a not-so-thick shake. And that makes it easy to throw in other things like my protein powder, ground flax seed, maca powder and other good stuff. That's just an easy way to ensure I'm getting lots of healthy nutrition every day--cuz it all good raw stuff.
So I started this yesterday and plan to continue.
Zhalyin, from the looks of it, you really need to work on your diet. I've winced everytime I read your meals for the day. I'm eighteen and I don't even consume near that amount of sugar/fast food anymore! Just from seeing your coca-cola consumption and your constant visits to in-n-out joints I can tell that you're not much of the cooking type... but seriously? Do you realize what you are doing to yourself? Your health? Your teeth (from all that sugar)?
It's good that you've been recording yourself day in and day out, but I've seen no progress from you in the last nine pages of this thread. I'm not trying to bash you whatsoever, but if you're serious about getting fit, then DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. You're the only one stopping yourself, and with each can of coke, Mcdonalds breakfast, or pack of cigarettes you're just making it worse.
I went from basically eating processed foods and sugar for all my grade 12 year, but that's attributed to laziness and being stoned or drunk all the time. As much as I love fast food, I eventually made the realization of what I was doing to myself and hated it. I switched coffee with green tea (wonderful source of antioxidants but still contains caffeine), stopped smoking (ciggs and otherwise) and drinking frequently cold turkey, and changed my diet around. Even small things like taking out white bread and replacing it with whole wheat is an integral part of making your way to the bigger picture.
I know you're probably thinking, 'Well, it's not that easy,' but in all honesty it is. You're only holding you back. If you were serious about the whole fitness thing you should first start with realizing what you're doing to yourself (that being slowly killing your body). If you're not serious, well then... why are you here?
I understand you're sick, insomniac, plagued, etc. But your diet is probably leading to a lot of these things... it's a very vicious cycle that many people get trapped in.
Apologies if this came across as harsh, but I'm really giving you the truth here. I'm trying to help you - no sugar coating. There's probably a lot more to this story but this is from initial observations.
Seriously. If you want to have fast food, limit it to at the VERY MOST one time every 2 weeks, but once every couple of months would be ideal.
Those sodas will really kill ya. You are drinking it like you as if it is water. I would advise never drinking soda besides maybe at a party or something where that is all that is available. What would be best is to replace that with just water, but if that is too hard to start, I would say replace it with something like Juice Squeeze and slowly try to depend on these drinks less and more on water.
Man, having pancakes, sausages, and hashbrowns for breakfast is awesome, but you should tone it down a lot. Try starting with once every two weeks and then once every month should be fine. Something like a blueberry muffin, yogurt, and toast would be a much better choice.
I know you are trying because you are on this thread, but you need strong willpower to be able to stop the habit. Try having one thing each day that you would consider something bad for you like a piece of cake or a cookie, but don't have any more. Good luck.
This is what I'm trying to do. I have really bad chocolate cravings lol. But I am trying to limit myself to one chocolate item a day or none if I can help it.
Today I had a peanut butter cookie sandwich with chocolate frosting in the middle. I know, not the healthiest choice.
I've found that fruit really helps do the trick when you're feeling hungry. I've been having an orange almost daily. Zhaylin, maybe you can try to eat a piece of fruit in place of one of your junk food choices a day and see if that helps. Fruit has natural sugar which is better than artificial sugar.
The bad thing about artificial sugars, and any artificial foods, is that our brains do not know how to process them, so they go to automatically store as fat. I read something about that the other day.
Also, high fructose corn syrup, which is in virtually everything these days, was found to contain levels of mercury in one out of every three products! Mercury is considered dangerous in ANY level. See this article. So I've been looking at labels trying to avoid high fructose corn syrup as much as I can.
Thanks for all the info, encouragement and kicks in the butt :D
I eat a lot of fast food because I'm a food phobe, hate cooking, and hate being out in public (to go shopping etc).
But as for my McD's breakfasts, those were special treats. I'm usually not even awake for breakfast. But I know I need to cut back on fast food. And I KNOW I REALLY need to start drinking more water and less coke. I don't eat much of anything and I exercise pretty regularly (except this past week) but my weight is pretty stable and I attribute it to Coke.
And for teeth... I don't have to worry about that any more. I had all of them removed when I was about 22 years old- healthy ones and bad ones alike (very long story).
But I realize, teeth is the least of my worries and besides the point.
I actually went grocery shopping earlier today, so I'll be eating somewhat better this week :)

May I ask as to what you got from grocery shopping? Just as a curiosity... perhaps I could make some suggestions if necessary. We probably relate on a similar level of hating to cook, me being 18 and all.
Also, if you know you need to cut back, why don't you do it? Like I said, you're the only one that can say no. Even if you are a food phobe and hate being out in public.
Zhaylin, instead of soda, try switching to juice. It's delicious! For a treat, though, you can purchase some 7-up and mix it with apple or orange juice for a basic punch. Orange juce + 7-up + pineapple juice is always a winner and a nice treat and it's not as unhealthy as drinking soda alone. And I might have asked about this before, but if you don't like to cook, have you considered stocking up on frozen dinners and/or canned food.
Anyway, tonight I weighed in and lost another pound from last week. Current weight: 221.6. Total weight loss: 22 pounds!
Exercise: I walked with a friend twice this last week for over a half-hour. Shins still killing me at the fast pace, but I haven't been stretching on account of short notice. They loosen up after a while, so I'm just thinking that I need to continue walking more often.
I'm headed up to Montana. I'll be seeing friends who haven't seen me since I started on Weight Watchers last August and I'm excited! I saw a girl I used to work with and she asked if I'd lost weight, so that was a great ego-booster! I was also able to buy some new clothes and I look pretty darned good in them. *raises glass* Here's to furthered success to all of us. Keep it up!
*WOOT!* Congrats, Ame!! Hope you enjoy your visit with your friend :)
lol, I didn't get much when I went shopping... 2 boxes of Bran Flakes, 1 box of Cocoa Pepples, a small container of Pumpkin Icecream, 1/2 gallon of milk, 1 bag bbq chips, 2 small packages of Beef Jerky, 2 Jimmy Dean Sausage, egg, cheese & potatoes breakfast bowls (which upset my stomach but they're tasty), 1 carton of 18 eggs, miracle whip, mustard, white bread (I've been wanting hard boiled eggs and egg salad sandwhiches), 2 boxes of 6 chocolate covered marshmallow bunnies, a bag of cheese twists (orange and white cheeses) and that's it. The marshmallow bunnies will last a good while because they give me horrible heartburn and reflux (as does almost all chocolate AND marshmallows, so I guess they're a double whammy lol).
I'm a major carb addict. When I was pregnant for the first time, I was talking about food with my mom and saying how I was doing well staying away from starches but that I was living off of cans of corn. She laughed and said it was a starch and I realized just how hopeless I was. Just about everyone on my moms side has diabetes. I, being the black sheep, have reactive hypoglycemia. Whenever I eat sugars, my blood sugar rises a bit but about 30 minutes later it plummets a great deal. My body panics and produces too much insulin which gives me low blood sugar. It used to drop a LOT, but now it just drops a little.
My problems with food and beverage is so much doesn't agree with me. It either gives me diarrhea, heartburn or reflux. When I find something that agrees with me I usually eat it all the time until I burn out on it and look for something else.
I'll buy some water at Exxon tomorrow. They have some Vitamin Water that I really like as well as some sweet tea.
Zhaylin, I'm not sure what all being a food phobe entails, but I would think that getting processed food would scare a food phobe more than cooking the food themselves. Think about it: when someone else prepares your food, you have no control over what goes into that food. Pre-cooked/shelf food is packed with preservatives, growth hormones, and other necessary and many times unnecessary evils. I know it's tempting to buy pre-cooked food. It's convenient and requires little or no clean up. Heck, I still eat a lot of take-out myself (Subway and Italian), but I'm trying to limit that to once a week or less.
Maybe you don't like cooking. Well, there are lots of food that don't require cooking or very little cooking. Tuna fish, lunch meat sandwiches, grilled cheese, eggs, any type of casserole, etc. are very easy to prepare. I make chicken a lot just because it's so easy to make and I love chicken. I get a package of several drumsticks, dip them in breadcrumbs, and cook them in the oven at 350 for 45 - 50 minutes. And wa-la, you have a home cooked meal!
I know what you mean about carb cravings! Here's a corn casserole recipe that I've made a few times. It's really easy to make and should last you several days depending on how many people you're cooking for. Maybe you could try some healthier bread choices? I just tried this delicious 12 grain bread (with no high fructose corn syrup I might add) and it's so tasty you can eat it plain.
Congrats again, Ame, have fun on your trip.
CoLd BlooDed--I'm glad to see you back and on this thread. You give some very wise advice.
Also good advice, thedogsmeow--especially about how bad high fructose corn syrup and prepackaged/processed foods are.
I have learned to stay away from sugar, fast food and anything processed. None of those are good for your health...and too much will literally kill you.
There are a lot of healthy things that you can eat without cooking. I can go days without cooking and eat plenty of good food. Fresh fruit and vegetables, salads, cottage cheese, nuts and seeds. And raw is much healthier than cooked anyway.
And there are other things that are very fast and simple to cook like boiled eggs and oatmeal. The healthiest things are actually the simplest things.
My alternative to soda: Cold water with a small swig of apple cider vinegar (for that zing) and grape or orange stevia for flavor. All healthy ingredients.
Yesterday:
I made a green drink again in the morning and had it thoughout the day. I used spinach, spring mix and strawberries because that's what I had. I will go shopping for a greater variety. This time I blended up a little cottage cheese. It made the flavor much more mild. And...I found that if I pour some into a bowl and add cocoa and orange stevia, it tastes like a dessert. How cool is that---that raw greens can double for my dessert.
Okay, I'm embarrassed to post this, but dang it, someone has got to start posting pictures. I have always been inspired by before and after pictures. And that's what this thread needs.
So...
I'm going to post a picture of my legs. Yes, my legs. Always my biggest problem area.
But...
I noticed yesterday morning as I sat in bed that I could actually see a bit of muscle definition on my thighs as I tightened the muscles. So I reached for the camera.
Unfortunately it wasn't an easy thing to take pictures of my own legs. The first three pictures had shadows of my hand and camera since my light source was straight overhead. Then I got my camera strap hanging in the picture. Then I noticed I was taking the pictures too close to the tops of my thighs and distorting them, making them appear much huger than normal (heaven forbid). I finally got one that seems to be mostly shadow free, and mostly in proprortion.
But anyway, we'll use this picture as a picture in progress. I'll take another picture in another few weeks and see if we can see improvement.
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w.../IMG_2964a.jpg
Nice legs, TwoShadows. I can definitely see muscle.
Thanks for the links and recommendations TwoShadows and TheDogsMeow.... but thanks a lot. Now I'm craving Cornish Hen and Chicken Livers lol I'll probably pick both up tomorrow because I have to go to the store anyhow to get hubby some milk.
Those are the only things I really cook. For the livers, I simply take out about 6, place them in the center of some aluminum foil, lightly coat the with season salt, fold the foil at the top and crimp the sides and cook them over medium heat for about 5 minutes.
I do the same thing for the hen only I cook it in the oven for about an hour and a half.
I throw the foil away when I'm done and that's that :)

I'm supposed to be eating Raisin Bran this week (another thread) but I now recall why I don't eat it. Having no bottom teeth is a nightmare when it comes to the sugar coated raisins and my gums are quite raw today. I have an upper plate and wear it constantly- even to bed, but I never could get used to lowers and don't even know where it is anymore.
I love Vitamin Water. It's flavored water with vitamins added (no corn syrup) and most of the flavors are very yummy.
French Fries and Fountain Soda's will be the hardest things for me to give up and it may be a while. But I'm cutting back a lot on the soda I drink at home and replacing it with water.
My smokes will be given up after my Court crap ends which may be as soon as this Friday.

Micely done Ame! And TS, wow, you have muscular legs, mine used to look like that :( Stupid sore knee. I'll get back in shape soon
Thanks, Zhaylin.
Thanks. That's what 2 and a half months of weightlifting has done for me. The problem is the definition all but disappears when I stand up as you can see in the below picture which I didn't post before because not only am I completely not ready for the picture, but because the way I am slightly leaning over my waist looks very thick.
But that's why I'm here in this fitness thread--because I need to stay motivated. I still have plenty of room for improvement.

What happened to your knee, Ninja?Quote:

Um...guys...is anyone else going to start posting pictures?
And where is everyone for that matter? Is it just me and Zhaylin now?
Go Zhaylin!
This week I haven't done as much exercise as I would have liked. I have done pilates workouts twice and I had a lower body weight workout on Wednesday. Today I'll do a full upper body workout. I'll also try to get some intense cardio in.
I'm behind on posting what I have been eating. Here is what I ate yesterday:
Green drink with spinach, spring mix, and strawberries with ground flax seed.
cottage cheese
almonds
grapefruit
2 egg whites and one yolk
green drink
cottage cheese
almonds
I'll post pictures soon, after I start running every day again. I stepped wrong on the street and it gave me tendonitis.
lol, thanks TwoShadows. And your legs still look nicely muscular.
Don't your Green Drinks taste gross? What do you do to make it more palapable (sp)?
 Ninja. Hope your knee gets better soon!
I forgot what today was, so I did not have Chicken liver at all. But I did buy some so I can eat them tomorrow :D

Mood: 5
Meds: Norms, Provigil x's 2, Naproxin, Acid Reducer
Health: 4 EXTREMELY fatigued, though I slept last night I might as well not have. For the past hour or so I've had trouble breathing (side effect of anxiety, triggered by poor sleep).

Quality of Sleep: 2 I usually can't sleep before Court because my anxiety doesn't allow it. Last night, I should have stayed awake because I feel worse for the "sleep" I did get. I had several dreams (each time I woke up and fell back to sleep) and most of them were bad. One of them featured tornadoes which is something I've not dreamed about for quite some time.
Cigarettes: about 1 1/2 packs. And now that I'm basically through with Court *WOOT!*, I have about 8 packs of cigarettes to smoke and then I'm going to attempt quitting *WOOT, WOOT!* I have to attend counseling and possibly parenting classes and then I'll get my kids back by around September :)
And at visitation my 12 year old daughter told me she started her period 2 days ago *sniff/sniff* Both my baby girls are "all grown up" now :( :)
Actually, that drink sounds really good. :D Thanks, I still lift every day, but that doesn't give me any definition.
Twoshadows, your legs are really in shape, good job!
I don't mind the taste. But I haven't been eating other junk food for a long time so my tastes may be different than a lot of other people. But for someone who wanted to start out making green drink, I would suggest starting with more fruit than veggies. To sweeten it up add grapes or banana--that really helps.
I know I eat a lot of odd things, but ever since my sister's cancer got really bad I have been really careful with my eating. I have done research and try to eat a diet that will keep me from getting cancer--because I hate cancer and hate the way it ruins lives. My sister used to be alot like me, active and independant. She was the one who got me to start lifting weights many years ago. Now she's stuck in bed because of a tumor in her spine that the doctors can't do anything about. So I'm not going to wait around to see if I get cancer too. I'm doing all the things I know to prevent it.
Anyway, Zhaylin, you've got to start eating better. You're eating the kind of diet that you can get really sick from. Please try...
Eating right is soo much more than how much it makes you weigh on the scale. What you put in your mouth makes all the difference in how your body will function and your whole quality of life. Getting thin and fit is only one small benefit. It's the one that shows so we get caught up in that being the focus. But we need to remember it's so much more than that.
You should make some green drink. It's the easiest way to get a good concentrated amount nutrition. It makes you feel good. Gives you energy. It's a good cancer preventative.
So why doesn't lifting weights help give you definition? I've seen your pictures. You don't have much bodyfat. Hmm. All I know is that when I lift and get my bodyfat down the definition starts to show. Does running work better for you?
I'm on a different computer right now and the settings must be different because I saw those pictures I posted of myself above and I look sooooo wide....haha. I never would have posted those if I had been on this computer all along. Now it makes me wonder what others are seeing...So if you all wouldn't mind changing the settings on your computers until the images you see are all very tall and skinny...thank you....:D
Thanks!
And yay!! Good for you. It takes a lot of guts to post pictures like this online.
Of course if you read my above post you will see that I'm not on my own computer and the settings are all off. But I want you to know that even though your pictures are stretched wide, I can tell you still look good. It won't take a long time to make some really good improvements. Hit it hard and then throw up some progress pictures.
Keep it up!
I do, I have a seaweed shake every once in a while.
I stopped running because of an injury, but kept eating the same so my bodyfat started to go up. Only running burns enough energy to get rid of it.Quote:

Thedogsmeow, did you just take those pictures down? They were fine. Really. I hope you are just editing them and are about to put them back up.
Oh okay, good. I know seaweed is healthy.
I hear ya. Dang it, don't you hate when the bodyfat goes up...:(. Now that I am getting close to where I want to be, I'm already starting to worry about maintaining it. You never can relax and let it all go....Quote:

I had to crop the pic I posted earlier a bit per my own discretion haha. I hope this pic's ok.

And, I guess this one's ok. Please someone tell me if they're innapropriate lol. My mom pointed out something in the first pic that I didn't even think about, so that's why I decided to crop it, heh.

Oh yeah here's a pic of my face, mostly because I find it creepy myself if someone doesn't show their face lol:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...1/valbored.jpg
They look alright to me. I must have missed the thing the first time around that you mom noticed. I know what you mean, though. I was wondering about my legs picture after I posted it because it shows an awful lot of leg. And I'm usually more conservative than that. But I know people have exposed a lot more than this on this forum. And because of the nature of this thread I think our pictures are alright.
Anyway, that's a nice picture of you (the face one).
Thank you! Yeah I didn't want it to look, um, suggestive because I know there's people that post here that are under 18! I was just thinking how they show before/after pictures on those weight loss commercials :) I wish my final result would be as dramatic though, haha!
Oh, and I know that I haven't been posting my daily reports lately, I've been slacking on that, sorry guys! I'll post my report later today after I've consumed all the food/drinks for the day lol.
I had mono about 2 summers ago, and it made me so tired all the time that all I wanted to do was eat. I couldn't even take a walk without feeling tired. I noticed whenever I'm under stress the mono symptoms come back, and for some reason it makes me want to eat more. Yeah, I know it's NOT an excuse to pig out on food, but it seriously drains me of all my energy. When I eat healthy though I notice it DOES help with my energy level, so it's a great motivation to stick to healthy eating. Unfortunately, I have a persistent sweet tooth so I've resolved to eat a lil chocolate when I'm craving it rather than restrict myself then end up binging a week later lol. Ok, I'm rambling.
Sorry everyone for not posting for a long time here. That doesn't mean I wasn't doing anything! I gave up on pushups and crunches, I do dips instead. I still do pullups and play sports whenever I get a chance.
YAY!, My buddy is alive :D

I was so annoyed... the eggs I had turned into egg salad had become completely frozen by my fridge and thus ruined. So before falling asleep last night I ate two pieces of plain bread :?
**Edit**
Add 3 pieces of Chicken Liver. The Vitamin Water I'm drinking is Multi-V (lemonade flavor that isn't half bad).
I need to lower my fridge settings, though I've never had a problem before. Even my livers were nearly completely frozen *grrrr*

Hey, one step at a time. Good stuff. I really hope (for your sake) that you can follow through with what you have just laid out in front of you. If you get salad, don't go gung-ho on the dressing... usually the dressings are what makes the salad bad for you (use half of what you're given, to start?). Oh, and the sweet tea you're referring to is the bottled stuff, right? That's just sugar, assuming my assumption is correct.
I'll be watching you. ;)
Welcome, ellwilll...and good luck.
Pastulio_--okay--we'll hold you to that.
CB--more good advice.
Zhaylin, I hope you can stick to that goal. I think you will notice how much better you feel if you get off the junk/fast food.
My progress:
I took my body fat percentage this morning. The calipers say I'm down to 16.2 percent.
I think the calipers are giving me a bit of a low reading. I don't feel like I am quite down that low. And I do remember when I used to get on my sister's bodyfat scale, it would show me a couple of percent higher than the calipers.
But--I do feel like I am getting a consistant reading with the calipers. Which means that since I started here in February, I have gone down 4.2% bodyfat--which I am really happy about!
Edit:
Okay, I just did the calculations and if those numbers are exactly correct, then I have lost 7.36 pounds of bodyfat and gained .36 pounds of muscle. I thought I would have gained a little more muscle than that. So my numbers may be off just a little. All I know is that I am looking and feeling better, and that I am making progress in the right direction.
I've seen pictures of you, I didn't think you had 7 pounds of fat to lose :? You'll gain more muscle soon I"m sure. Once you get kayaking a lot more your arms and back will tone up :D
Well, thank you. But I did actually have 7 pounds of fat to lose. And I would still like to lose a bit more. I guess it depends on how picky I want to be. But I still have a little more than I want on my hips and rear, lucky me.
And yeah, if I continue to do the things I like to do I will keep getting stronger and gain more muscle. And as long as I keep eating healthy I should reach a point where I am satisfied.
Oh, and another cool thing. I recently went shopping and fit into a size 6 pair of jeans. But I decided not to buy them yet and see if I would end up in 4's.
And right now for lunch I am eating a bowl of green drink mixed with:
a large spoonful of plain yogurt
A scoop of protein powder
a scoop of creatine
a spoonful of ground flax seed
a spoonful of maca powder
And let me tell you, this is GOOD!
WTG TwoShadows!!
What exercises are good for hips, rear and thighs? That's where most of my weight is (and my boobs, but I would like to keep them lol) It seems my hips have literally expanded. I currently wear a size 6-8 but even if I can fit some things around my waist, they wont go over my hips. My hubby gave me a pair of his jeans which fit perfectly. They're a size 32, relaxed fit around the hips. Another pair of 32's wouldn't go over my hips.
Thanks for keeping an eye on me Cold Blooded :)
I'll satisfy my carb craving (for now) with potato chips. I know it's junk food, but I only eat about 6 at a time. I'm actually craving salad, so I wont have a problem there.
In fact, I think I'll go to Sheetz soon and pick up a chicken salad (all lettuce, with eggs, cheese, black olives and tomatoes with honey mustard dressing). They always give me two things of dressing but one is plenty. I just pour in on, put the lid back on the salad and shake it up :)
Another question:
I LOVE salads. I don't make my own though because the lettuce is never crisp like it is a fastfood places (except Burger King, who uses a lot of coarse non-crisp lettuce and Wendy's big salads are the same way). I've tried washing my lettuce in cold water, even froze some for a little while but I can never make it crisp. What's the secret?
On the other hand, I love spinach salads but they always give me mouth sores for some strange reason.
I can tell you exercises that can build up the muscles, but it takes good eating to lose the fat. And I have noticed that until you lose the fat you can't really see the muscle, so even though you might feel better it takes losing the fat to make legs/rear look fit.
I like to do squats, lunges and deadlifts with my dumbells and a few other exercises on my weight machine.
And Zhaylin, try this with the salad dressing: Leave it on the side. Pick up some of the lettuce on your fork then dip the edge of the lettuce in the dressing. I have found I use way less dressing that way.
As far as crispy salads, I don't know. I have found the healthiest greens are not really crispy. But you can get used to it. Also adding crunchy cucumbers or carrot slices can help.
I just started. I was going to see if it would help me with the muscle. I take it you're not a fan of the stuff? I have never used it myself, but had a friend who felt it helped.
Thanks for the tips!
I love fresh carrots, but I can no longer eat them (no bottom teeth lol). And while I LOVE cucumbers, they don't love me. I can eat them every once in a while, but they make either my ulcer or gallbladder very displeased.
As for other veggies... I HATE bell peppers with a passion *yuck!* Asparagus I can eat in small amounts (the taste overpowers me). And I guess it's not a veggie, but I really love mushrooms.
This is going to sound stupid, but can squash and zuccinni (sp) be eaten raw? How does it taste? I love it cooked.
I also like corn and green beans. But since I was a kid I can only eat thick green beans dipped in katsup lol (I've always said it tastes like the Jolly Green Giant )
I'm not too worried about the dressing. It's less than or right around 2 oz. and the salad is so large that it's scarcely covered. When I make my own salads though I do have a tendency to use WAY too much.
Creatine just causes water retention in your muscles. A lot of people use it when working out to make themselves look bigger, faster. Basically it takes the ache out of muscle regeneration so people can workout consecutive days... but once you stop taking it everything goes away in a couple days (water retention).
EDIT: Try putting almonds in your salad, or sprouts... or brocolli. A salad is a foundation for just about anything. Also, if the lettuce you're eating is very light, light, green, you're not doing yourself any favours. A healthy salad consists of dark green leaves, aka spinach. Light lettuce is just water, 0 calories and 0 nutrients.
Blah... way to rain on my parade :P Seems nothing I like is good for me lol
I cannot eat any kind of nuts or seeds, for the same reason I cannot eat carrots.
I guess I'm doomed to have a somewhat lacking diet. My "can conquor the world" has just fled. I really hate to hear that about salad. It's the ONE thing I thought I was doing well
The area behind my left knee partway up my thigh is still very tender. It's uncomfortable to walk on, so I doubt I'll do any strenuous exercises today. But I will use my stretch cords on it, maybe that'll help. I have a bad habit of walking up stairs and hills on my tiptoes. I think that's how I strained the muscle. It doesn't feel "pulled", but more like a minor charlie horse. And my back is still bothering me a great deal but I think it's because my period is 2 weeks off. I need to get back on Lexapro instead of Celexa. Lexapro takes care of those pains (PMDD) for the most part.
Hmm...so maybe I shouldn't bother?
Okay, here is another picture that shows my muscles/lack of.
I wasn't going to post this one because I didn't think I liked the way I looked. But from it you can see my arms/shoulders and how I have the faintest showing of muscle. But I would really like more definition--you know, that real "roundness" of the shoulder/deltoid.
Plus, isn't that just the coolest little canyon?
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w.../IMG_2882c.jpg
Aww, don't get discouraged, Zhaylin. Just keep trying. Just try to get foods that are in their natural form or have not been processed much. I'm sure there are foods out there that you can eat and won't make you feel sick that are healthy. We'll keep trying!
I hope your knee feels better too. Yeah, try to do light stretching exercises and see how it feels. Don't keep working it if it really hurts.
Thanks TwoShadows. I'm not going to give up just yet :)
And it's not quite my knee that hurts, but further up. It's very odd. I've never hurt that area before. But I'm sure it'll get better in a day or 2.

TS, you have the coolest places to hike. If I lived by you I'd be out hiking for like 6 hours of every day :(
My company started a wellness program so now I have a pedometer on my foot :) I'll report my mileage for the first day later
I used to hike almost everyday--well, it was kind of walking the dog. But it was in beautiful areas. Now I do more of the day trip hikes.
Oh, and my other really good friend just got back from two months away and she's the one that really likes to hike and kayak and has a similar schedule to mine so I will probably be getting out more. Plus the weather is turning really nice. So look forward to more pretty pictures in my DJ.
I've never used a pedometer. I have no idea how many steps I would take. I'm curious how many you get. I can see how that would encourage you to take more steps.
And thanks, thedogsmeow. For me it's one of those things where the harder I work on something the more I want it to be just perfect.Quote:
Twoshadows, you definitely have muscle!
I'm very envious of your outdoor life, TwoShadows! I can't wait to get my kids back and move back to our Farm. I was often out exploring. I'm determined to find a nice cave or cliff underside (what would that be called?). We have over 83 acres and my 14 year old and the dog usually go with me :) We found a few really nice blueberry bushes last year after my son almost got stuck in some "quick mud".
Today is going to be very blah. I've been overheated most of the day and I woke up with a sickingly sweet taste in my mouth. I tried to counter it by brushing ("teeth" and tongue) and when that didn't work I thought to neutralize it with salt and ate a piece of jerky and a few chips. That didn't work either. So I decided to fight fire with fire lol and ate a chocolate covered custard filled donut. Amazingly enough, that did it. When I get that taste, the last thing I want is something sweet. I was very surprised it worked.
Then I got curious about my sugar. I took it RIGHT after eating the donut and it was 106. A half hour later it was 145. A half hour after that, it was 146 lol. Then my reactive hypoglycemia kicked in and an hour later, my suger was down to 85. I was curious if I still had it (sometimes it's a precursor for Type 2 Diabetes).
The muscle in my leg feels even worse today after stretching it yesterday, but it's still not unbearable.
So, the most exercise I'm going to do today is take a trip to the grocery store :D It's the last thing I WANT to do right now but the dog needs food and I guess I do too :P
You should get a pedometer TwoShadows. They're very motivating when you remember to wear it lol. I have a program for my DS that came with a pedometer but I got out of the habit of using it. I'll start it again. It's gives daily tasks and such that are kind of fun.
Anyhow... hope everyone is having a good day.
**Edit**
My day went from blah to worse, but the irony put me in an extremely good mood :D
I went to the store and when I got to my car the battery was so dead it didn't even "click". I called my hubby and 30 minutes later he showed up in his Miata. I started laughing right away. He said he couldn't figure out a straight forward way to jump a car using his Hybrid.
As soon as he tried jumping me, his car died!
So we went in to Wal-mart to see if they could jump us, a guy came out and tried and it didn't work. Then he fiddled with my battery some and it started right up. My terminal is going bad from corrosion.
I get home, nearly doubled over from ulcer pain, go to feed the dog and set her lose. She ran a few laps around the yard, happy as a lark and refusing her runner. I finally get her.
Then hubby treats us to Arby's and I break my resolve against french fries *sigh*.
What a day!

Two days are better than none lol. I'll just build on it from there.
And TODAY I am a non-smoker :D
I'll be hybernating for a week or 2 to get through withdrawal, so my exercise routine and diet will suffer greatly duing this time. Staying hydrated will be my biggest obstacle.
I forgot hubby is off this week though. Hopefully he wont want to do anything and I can proceed as planned. But if he insists on doing something or going somewhere I may have to postpose everything until Monday.
Stick with it, Zhaylin (both the eating better and quitting smoking). Just think of how much better you'll feel.
I have been enjoying chicken salad (with chicken breast, apple, celery, chives, tarrragon, and sliced almonds) which I have learned to make with yogurt cheese instead of mayo, which makes it way healthier. To make yogurt cheese, get natural/organic plain yogurt and strain it through cheese cloth in the fridge for a couple hours until it thinkens a little. Then add a little vinegar. Then mix in with the chicken. So good.
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w.../IMG_3014a.jpg
Also my friend and I have already made plans for a hike together on Friday to Wire pass/Buckskin Gulch-- great slot canyons that I have wanted to do for a long time. So that will be my exercise for Friday.
Exercises done today: None
Areas of body worked today: N/A
Current weight: 130
Foods and Drinks consumed today: a 12 oz. cup of coffee, fettuccine alfredo, Pint of Ben and Jerry's Phish Food Ice Cream (grr!), and an orange
That looks so delicious TwoShadows (minus the celery which I extremely dislike).
What is another name for it- Wardolf Salad or somesuch? I get it a lot when I eat out at Arby's. I just pick out the almonds and celery.
I have slept nearly the entire day and I'm about to go back to sleep. I've eaten a bowl of Cocoa Pebbles, a few chips, a few marshmallow bunnies, some blueberries (that are VERY sour this time), 2 Special K bars- one chocolate the other blueberry. I've had lots of Vitamin Water to drink.
I even took 2 completely full trash can to the road- it's very little exercise, but it's more than I planned for.
For meds, I've taken my norms, plus a valium everytime I've woken up (I'm about to be on #3). Amazingly enough, I've not used my last remaining nicotine patch nor any of my mints. My lungs feel great, but I keep finding myself wanting to reach for a smoke lol.
To keep my hands occupied, I've played XBox when awake. THe longest I've been awake throughout the day is 2 hours at one stretch.
My 14 year old called and I barely remember talking to him. I remember he told me to tkae my medicine lol (meaning Provigil to wake up). Who knows what I said to him, I was so dead asleep. But he only had 5 minutes to talk.
Time to go back to sleep.
Yeah I think Waldolf salads just don't have the chicken. And yeah, I know Arby's has a chicken salad. I had it once when I was traveling a while back. But it's always way healthier to make your own.
Aaa....you can't keep eating like this. Your health will suffer. Those are all extremely sugary or high fat foods with no nutrition (except the blueberries) Isn't there any fruit, vegetable or lean protein foods that you can find that will work for you?Quote:
I've eaten a bowl of Cocoa Pebbles, a few chips, a few marshmallow bunnies, some blueberries (that are VERY sour this time), 2 Special K bars- one chocolate the other blueberry.
But I'm glad you were able to go a day without smoking. I know that will make you feel better and make you healthier if you keep it up.
Here is a snack that I find espeically good.
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w.../IMG_3016a.jpg
You just take a small spoonful of the natural peanutbuttter, and a spoonful of the natural/organic yogurt (which I strained for about two hours through cheese cloth to make it a little thicker) and a few drops of English Toffee Stevia (all natural sweetener with zero caleries) and put them in a bowl.
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w...n/IMG_3015.jpg
Stir it together and eat with apple slices. And I'll bet the apples could be shredded and stirred in, Zhaylin, if that helps you eat it. If you have trouble finding the Stevia (health food stores have it or you can order it online), a little honey could be used, or agave.
This tastes so good. For me it is like eating candy.
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w.../IMG_3018a.jpg
The real point that I am trying to make is:
If you want to be fit, you have to eat a nutritious diet.
Some people think they can get fit only by exercising. And a few people especially young people can temporarily look fit by exercise alone. But that doesn't mean they are healthy. For me it is a whole package. It does me no good to look fit if I am not healthy.
And this advise is to everyone (not just you Zhaylin). And I include myself here. I have, in the past, tried to be fit by exercising a lot and thinking that it was okay to eat badly because I was burning a lot of calories. But it doesn't work that way. You have to do both. That doesn't mean that you have to eat perfect 100% of the time, but just most of the time.
That sounds get! I may try some when my hibernation is complete.
I have practically nothing, by way of food, right now and I'm eating high fat/high sugar on purpose for this time only. I don't want to leave and shop and have temptation of buying smokes before me. So I'm making due with what I have around the RV.
Quitting the smokes is my #1 priority right now. When I'm successful, I'll then concentrate on my diet. And then on exercising. If I try to tackle everything at this time, I'll become overwhelmed and give up entirely.
So far I've still not used my patch or any mints. I'm doing MUCH better than I anticipated :)
Tomorrow will be the true test. I have visitation with 3 of my kids. We always go out for pizza and I ALWAYS smoke during the hour drive. If I make it through today, tomorrow should go smoothly. And today is going wonderfully so far.
I'm going to eat some more high calorie foods, drink a bottle of water and go back to sleep.
Keep it up, Zhaylin! :clairity: If it helps, make sure that you don't have any cigarettes with you and ask everyone else to help you out. Ask them to make sure you don't smoke. It might be a humbling experience, but in the long run remember that it's for your overall well-being. You're doing great so far!
As far as going to the store, do you always go alone? If possible, try bringing someone with you who will keep you away from the cigarettes. Stay as far away from them as possible so you're not even tempted to look at them. Also, making a list before you go and promising to stick to that list will keep you from deviating and buying junk food and other non-necessities (saving money). If possible, don't go to the store hungry. If you go on an empty stomach, everything you pass sounds good and you'll be more likely to throw it in your cart/basket.
As far as cereal, try switching to non-sugared cereals such as Cheerios, Special K (with Strawberries, which soften up quite well in milk), or Rice Krispies. If you really need something with them, add a little bit of cocoa mix and it can make it more of a chocolate milk, but don't do that very often as it is just added calories. Also, do you have a blender where you could make fruit smoothies? Buying frozen fruit could be another option for healthier alternatives, especially as summer approaches.
And since I was on the road for 11 hours on Tuesday, I didn't get to weigh in. I'll give an update next week. As far as eating, I didn't do terrible, but I allowed myself to enjoy myself as I went to a wedding and hung out with my gentleman friend :smitten: It was too cold and wet and snowy to really go out for a walk, so unfortunately that didn't happen. I'll keep you posted!
Thanks for the tips and encouragement Ame!
Glad to hear you had fun at the wedding and with your friend :D
I broke down and went out for real food and I broke down and had a smoke too. Because of the valium, my blood pressure has been extremely low, so when I smoked, I almost puked lol- so I wont be having any more any time soon lol
I ate at Long John Silver's. I had baked Salmon with wild rice and vegetable medley and it was VERY good and under 350 calories on their Healthy Choice Menu.
I'm amazed that I've not had a single headache since taking valium. Are my headaches simply stress induced? Or would valium relieve some other source? Headaches are a daily part of my life- usually low level but persistently constant. Even before I started smoking last year, headaches were always with me. Interesting......
My weight is back down to 128. I think 2 pounds are water weight because my weight constantly fluctuates between 128 and 130.
That looks like an interesting and healthy snack! I like when people take pictures of their food, it helps give me ideas for new things to eat lol.
For some reason everything I ate today tasted bad, and it was mostly carbs. Ever since I tried that 12 grain bread I'm starting to lose my appetite for white bread more.
Exercises done today: Walked to the coffee shop and back
Areas of body worked today: legs?

Foods and Drinks consumed today: half of a 12 oz. cup of coffee, half of an undertoasted onion bagel, a couple bites of stuffing and some overcooked goulash (lunch leftovers), a couple bites of yucky peanut butter cheesecake, a small watery frapuccino, and I just got a 6 inch roast beef, bacon, and cheese sub, which will hopefully be more palatable than everything else I consumed today.
TheDogsMeow- is your nose stuffy? Do you have allergies or a cold? That could explain your lack of taste.
Zhaylin, interesting. I didn't know allergies and lack of taste had a connection lol. I have been suffering from allergies lately, thanks to the pollen. I live in the country so there's a lot of stuff floating around right now.
Now I'm drinking some lemonade and barely taste it, LOL.
Been awhile for posting here, nice to see everyone still working hard.

i was juts wondering if anyone knows whether or not the calorie count is correct on those cardio machines?
I think they're all just messed up.
Haha, I just called Yoplait and talked with their customer service. I asked them if the high fructose corn syrup used in their yogurt contained mercury, and they said that it did, but that the levels weren't high enough to be harmful. Wait? I thought mercury was harmful in any level. They cited an article online and gave me the link (the article is no longer online), but they could not email me the link.
They also told me that Yoplait for kids contains no high fructose corn syrup, which I find hilarious. If they don't use high fructose corn syrup in one product, why do they have to use it in another?
I suggested that they not use high fructose corn syrup in any of their yogurts, to which they replied "What would you recommend using to sweeten it then?" LOL! I just said I'd much rather prefer they use natural sugar than artificial food. Anyway, just had to share that. I might call more food companies that have high fructose corn syrup in their products just because they need to know we, the consumers, will not be fooled. Plus it's funny to hear the company's reactions to someone that actually cares about what goes into their body.
Edit: I found the article they gave me over the phone. Click here to read.
Went for a 45 minute run, then 2 hours on the bike :D
TheDogsMeow, it's amazing just how much our sense of smell affects our sense of taste.
Hope it passes soon!

Welcome back, Ame! Glad you had a good time.
I'm glad to hear that you are running again, Ninja. Good job on the runing/biking.
And good for you, thedogsmeow, for voicing your opinion to the Yoplait company. if more peopel cared adn did that they would be forced to make thier products healthier.
Nice to see you checking in, Mysteryhunter. And I don't know about the calorie counters on the cardio machines. But I can see how they might not be completely accurate.
And Zhalylin, hope all is going well in your goal to quit smoking.
I had a went on a nice hike yesterday. It was pretty good exercise since we hiked a lot through sand. We didn't end up on the hike we had wanted because of the chance for rain and the risk for flash flooding in the slot canyon. But it was still good fun, and if it counts as exercise then all the better!
Here is a picture. I couldn't decide if I should post the scenery or myself. So here is both. Hm, and I always look a little slouched over when I carry a heavy pack. (But it adds to the exercise..and if I exercise more then I'll look more fit in future pictures.:))
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w.../IMG_3066a.jpg
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w.../IMG_3066b.jpg
I'll probably post a few more pics in my DJ.
WOW! Your pictures always amaze me TwoShadows!! Both views are gorgeuos :)
Am I completely weird or do other people do what I do? During a long hike, when my back is tired from carrying a pack, I simply wear it in front of me. (Granted, I have a small chest.) I've found it's often MUCH easier to carry it that way.
I'm smoking has continued until Monday night. I abuse Valium to get through the withdrawals and because I had to drive on Friday as well as tomorrow and Monday, it would be no good to have a Valium hangover. But if I can succeed in quitting from Monday night until Friday, I should be good to go. But the cursed meds have a half life half the age of the person taking it. I'm 34 years old, so 34 hours after taking it, I still HALF of the meds in my system. Another 34 hours later, I have half of that.
BUT, nicotine counteracts the effects of the med, so if I take my usual 30 mg on Monday night, if I wear a nicotine patch on Friday and take a Provigil I should be fine. If not, I'll just reschedule my visit with my 3 kids.
I've quit several times this past year so I know I can do it. I just have to REFUSE to give in to a negative attitude.
Because I'm doing this for spiritual reasons, I need to tell myself I'm quitting for God even if I am never reinstated into the Congregation (which is a lie I tell myself. I tell myself they don't WANT me back, so I light another smoke). I just have to remember THEY'RE not the reason I'm quitting.

I am absolutely amazed I've not had any headaches since taking Valium. I feel like a new person lol. I ALWAYS have a headache. But... it won't last. I HATE Valium because I HATE sleeping all the time  But there's definitely something going on and if I ever see a doctor, I'll be sure to mention it. My blood pressure has been low-normal instead of normal-high, so perhaps that's all it is.
**Edit**
At 1AM hubby decided to take me out for breakfast. A new place opened up practically right across the street from us called the "Huddle House" (like a Waffle House or Denny's).
It was surprisingly very good. I had a bowl of grits with butter and 3 packets of Sugar, 2 pieces of Sausage, a few bites of Hashbrowns (the shredded kind and they were too crispy for me for the most part), 3 eggs Sunnyside up (but I ate only the yolks lol dipped with 1 1/2 slices of toast) and a glass of Pepsi.
Now I'm pleasantly filled up :) and was able to take my Strattera.
Here's what I did for the weekend:
I went with a few friends to this running track and exercise grounds (dunno how to call it). I ran about 1,25km and did lots of pull-ups, dips and we tried some other things we saw on youtube but it didn't work. Then tomorrow I went out to play basketball and football for 2,5h and then I was sick and exausted for the entire day, but it was worth it. :)
Yesterday ran 6 miles, felt crappy though, but my knee felt 100% :D
Are you foreseeing your future or did you mean "today" :P
What a run Ninja!! Glad to hear your knees endured!
Yesterday I visited my son at the Facility and on the way I picked up Mc's Sausage, egg and cheese McGriddle with a hashbrown and large coke. I ate the hashbrown then the top "pancake" and egg but had no appetite. I drank a HORRIBLY NASTY NOZ (?) energy drink that I nearly puked right back up it was so foul.
About an hour into the drive, I tried to eat the bottom pancake with the sausage and cheese but it turned my stomach.
The visit went well but on the way home I was in horrible pain from unpassing gas. I forced myself to eat a Cheese Stick and some of the pain subsided a bit, but the rest persisted until the Gas-X kicked in around 3AM
Then I had a Blueberry Special K breakfast bar and a can of coke.
Today, the gas pain has returned. (I never went to bed, so it actually returned just a couple hours after subsiding).
I didn't feel like eating at all, but picked up 3 Hot Cakes with a hashbrown and large Coke on my way back to see my son again today.
The pancakes weren't dry at all, but even the smallest bites seemed to get stuck in my lower throat and caused great discomfort. I forced them down but couldn't even think of eating the rest. About an hour into the drive I ate the sausage. I only drank half of the Coke.
On my way home I bought some plain Lays Potato Chips to settle my stomach but I simply don't want to eat them.
I've not slept for two days and I realize that's part of my problem, I did a lot of heavy lifting and moving yesterday but today I'm not even going to think of moving off my couch again except to get water. My urine is so orange it's almost brown. I'm severely dehydrated. But I'm also severely depressed because my son was sent to another Shelter for up to 45 days until they can move him to a level 2 Mental Facility (he was at a level 3 place and level 2 is progress, more fun, more freedom etc), but he did not handle it well at all.
He was screaming at the pdoc and DHHR woman so loudly that security ended up coming in to check on us.
Everything was okay (he wasn't violent just ENRAGED and very vocal about it).
So, in my sleep deprived, depressed state, I could care less that I'm dehydrated. I'm so depressed I'm almost apathetic.
I forgot I had my own pdoc app. this afternoon and I missed it... but I rescheduled for Thursday and I'll probably sleep until then
But between 400 mg Provigil yesterday and 400-600 mg over the course of today, I don't want to sleep.
I just want to vegetate, so I'll play video games until exhaustion and repetition knock me out.
Good job, everyone.
I had a good day exercising yesterday 4 hours of kayaking (and at least 30 minutes of that was straight into the wind) and 30 minutes of hiking and 30 minutes taking a nap in the sunshine :smitten:.
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w.../IMG_3156a.jpg
Awesome picture! Glad to hear you had a great time :)
Well, I could have done a bit better this last week (too much desert ) but I still managed to lose another 1.2 pounds, so I'm down to 220.8. Gah! So close to my 10% goal. I'll make it this week, though. No more brownies, apple pie, ice cream, peach cobbler, chocolate cake, and so on and so forth.
But yes, they were all tasty!
WTG!!
I've managed to make it down to 125 but I attribute the weight to sickness and barely eating anything because I've NOT been keeping up with any sort of exercise routine lately.
And, Cold, you'll be happy to learn that I have lost my love for fries. I woke up hungry this morning (more than usual) and I could tell my glucose was low, so I went to Wendy's. I bought a Baconattor with a large Fry and a large Coke. When I got home to eat it, I had about 4 fries and gave the rest to my dog because I couldn't stand the taste of them at all. I only managed to eat little half of the burger, but I drank almost all of the soda.
I've slept most of the day, despite having taken a Provigil... in part because of my weekend exhaustion, in part because of my period, in part because I have another stinking sinus and ear infection!!! *GRRRRR* My snot is green and my ears are constantly "gurgling". So, I need to google the infections to see what the best antibiotic is to treat them and have hubby write me a prescription. His Amoxacillin simply isn't cutting it. (No lectures about going to the Doctor, please lol- I hate going to a Doctor for something I KNOW I have.)
Tomorrow I visit my pdoc and my hubby is off work and has nothing planned so I'll probably spend the night with him and take a proper bath. He is so cute. I told him that out of desperation, I took a shower in the rain the other evening (because I thought it funny as heck because such behavior is NOT like me at all) and now he's guilt-ridden and has been berating himself for not fixing the plumbing in the RV or seeing if the modular has a leak.
He's a very paranoid person and even I am locked out of his house except for times I stay with him or he's home and expecting me to be around (to do laundry and such). Our water bill indicated we had a water leak (before the problems with the RV) and I thought I heard water leaking under the modular. But it was night time, snowing and hard to see, so he just shut off the water to the place.
I have a feeling if the weather isn't horrendous, we'll be fixing plumbing tomorrow :)
I am happy to hear you've lost your love of fries. I'll be even happier when I hear you've lost your love for Coke, too. One step at a time.
hahaa... Miracles CAN happen. But I wouldn't hold my breath on that one lol
I DO think a tolerance for water can be achieved however :)
One step at a time, just as Cold said. :goodjob2:
Yesterday when I donated blood I measured my weight and it's 72kg, which means I gained 2 kg.

Health: 4 Just blah. Sinus/ear infection haven't been bothering me much today- just a little gurgling.
Studied: 1 hour religious & 40 min. secular
Ministry: 30 minutes informal
Cleaned: 5
Recreation: 5
Groomed: 5
Total Sleep: (??) about 7 hours I think
Quality of Sleep: 5
I had a very full schedule today and tomorrow will be no different, but I hope to schedule in some Boxing Shuffle and pilates.
I took a bite of that Little Thickburger yesterday and couldn't stomach it.
I ate some Petite Peaches and a snack sized chocolate cake instead.
This morning I had Petite Peaches and a snack sized Carrot Cake, a few sips of Coke; then I had about 5 pieces of a variety of pizzas and a medium Coke; I left there 6 hours ago and I'm still drinking a large Coke I refilled on my way out lol- there's about 1/3 left and it's mostly water now *blec*; I'm about to eat 3 small brownies I took with me and drink a 20 oz. bottle of Vitamin Water.
No real exercises done today. I used my arm weights for awhile, but not long enough to count toward anything.
My official Stop Smoking date is April 28. That's when I started smoking last year and I love "complete circles" (I even want to die on my birthdate) :D But I'm cutting back drastically in the meantime.
I got about 6 hours of restless sleep last night. I'm exhausted today and will probably be crashing very soon.
I went hiking most of the day in Wire Pass and part of Buckskin Gulch (pictures are in my Dream Journal).
WOOT! Glad to hear you're stil enjoying nature :)
I am amazed by the power of suggestion. Ove a decade ago, I had gone a couple days without a cigarette and I wanted one desperately. I finally got one, smoked it and enjoyed it thoroughly and then realized it was NOT a menthol. I was amazed because as I was smoking it, I had been certain it WAS a menthol.
Today, I was very hungry and went to Arby's. I ordered a deluxe roast beef texas toast sandwhich, with fries and a coke and also a small Onion Petals. I like to dip my fries in honey mustard sauce and the onion petals in the tangy southwest sauce.
I ate the onion petals first, dipping them and enjoying the spiciness. I then tried to eat some fries, got out the sauce and saw it was the tangy. "Shoot" I thought "they gave me 2 tangy sauces."
But when I looked at the sauce I had used, I realized I used the honey mustard for the onion petals. The tanginess I had perceived had been imagined :D
I still no longer like fries, so I only ate a few then gave the rest to the dog.
Earlier today, I ate Petite Peaches and had some Vitamin Water. In a little while, I'm going to eat one of 2 Hostess Sno balls and have the other one tomorrow.
I've slept almost all day today. I feel fine but a little anti-social and I shift between feeling extremely cold and extremely hot.
I've only had about 6 cigarettes so far.
I'll probably go back to sleep soon, but I think hubby may actually treat us to the movies tonight and I may spend the night with him.
I've used my arm weights today, but that's it so far. I'm thoroughly drained and have no motivation to do more.
Blah... what is today's date? The 13th...
Yesterday, I ate Petite Peaches, a 20 oz. bottle of Vitamin Water; 1 1/2 hotdogs w/ relish and pepperjack cheese, a few bites of mac and cheese, 32 oz Fountain Pepsi and a chocolate covered custard filled donut that sent me running to the restroom.
Other than that, I think I slept practically all day and all night. I've been feeling like vomiting, have had some other stomach problems and an on-again-off-again earache.
Today, I'm feeling slightly better. I ate 1/2 of a Chicken Club Sandwhich from Wendy's and I'm about to eat a Caesar side salad. I've been drinking a large Coke for several hours now.
I'm still drained and feeling blah. My doc increased my Celexa and it MAY be making my thoughts manic (I'm having a lot of problems with obsessive/anxious thoughts) but with as sleepy as I've been I myself am not manic. So, I'll continue on the meds and see if I level out. There's nothing currently going on in my life to trigger a rise in anxiety, unless I'm still coming off an attack from last Thursday. I'll just have to wait and see...
I'm going to do some boxing shuffle later.
My weight is back up to 128 *grrrr* Seems the only way to keep weight off is to starve lol, but I love food too much for THAT (I know, I know, I just have to choose healthy low carb foods).
I'm also behaving in a somewhat depressed way. Nothing is giving me pleasure. The games I play aren't appealing to me, and I've even stopped coming here as frequently as I normally do. I can't focus enough to read. It's rainy outside and has been for days, so getting a walk is out of the question. The only thing appealing to me is sleep and the occasional tv show. Is this because I've been sick, been coming off a bout of high anxiety or am I depressed? I feel I could easily start crying if I started thinking too deeply, so I'd rather not... But, why would I be depressed? Is it my meds being adjusted or something else?
*grrrr*
A line of poetry just occurred to me:
"I'll keep putting on my happy face
Though my soul I do debase."
Okay.. so I'm depressed lol. By WHY? My life is no different a hellhole than it's been since last November. If anything, things have been inproving and I've definitely been enjoying my new-found freedom.
Oh well... maybe it will come to me in a dream :D
Wake up, Zhalyin, it's the FOOD.
Didn't I say: "I know, I know" :D
I KNOW lol but I've been making healthier choices (salad instead of fries, chicken instead of beef). I've even been eating fruit almost daily (which is a HUGE accomplishment for me).
And I've only been eating about one true meal a day, so I wouldn't think it would affect my weight THAT much...
*blah*
It's still fast food. Fast food will always be fast food, regardless of whether it's chicken or beef. Regardless of whether it's salad or fries. You're still eating fast food, and still washing it down with litre upon litre of Coca-Cola or packs of smokes. Wendys, Arbys, McDonalds, A&W, Jack in the Box, it's ALL the SAME shit.
Kudos on the fruit, but are you eating 5-6 servings a day? One apple isn't going to do it. Ever. Are you drinking normal water? A litre of water a day will go a LONG ways, believe me. It will keep you hydrated, flush your system of all that nasty shit, keep your skin glowing, etc. I don't care if you don't like water, either; you're made of it so drink it.
ONE true meal? What, like a lunch from Wendys? That's not going to cut it, either. Especially not on top of all the consumption of sugary pastries or chocolate or what have you. This depression is coming from all these refined, processed toxins you're cramming into your body like there's no tomorrow. With you complaining about it is just making me frustrated because sure, you're going 'YES, YES, THANKS FOR THE TIPS EVERYONE I REALLY DO HAVE TO STOP' but you just keep going without a second thought...
We as an invisible society can only help so much; or try to help. With you carrying on and carrying on our time trying is wasted.
Not true :(
Because of you good people, I'm exercising regularly. I'm eating fruit. I've given up fries. I'm drinking water. I've gone from 4 packs of smokes a day to 1/2 a pack.
Yes, I need to improve MORE, but I'm working on a life time of bad habits here. And I've come a long way :)
Are salads from fast food places any different than one I'd make myself? I seriously thought a salad would be good no matter where I get it from because it's still a salad (lettuce, cucumbers, croutons, dressing etc).
Honestly, the dressing from fast food places puts the salad back at the unhealthier level. The lettuce is mostly just water, empty calories. Croutons don't really have a nutritional value, and whatever vegetables they add in there are too minimal to even make a dent.
A salad that will do someone good is easily, easily made at home. Use spinach leaves, make a vinagrette, grate some mozza or grab some feta, slice up the vegetables you like and can actually chew... the portions you can make at home are far superior to the little plastic trays you buy from Wendys or McDicks for $5.
Walked around for 4 hours on sat, 2 hours on sun, 1 hour yesterday, hopefully i'll run 2 hours after work if the sun will stay up that long :)
WOOT! WTG, Ninja :)
Haven't actually done a report for a while. It's Tuesday, so here is this week!
Name: A. Star
Date of joining fitness club: 2/13/09
Current weight: 218.6, down from 220.4 last week
Total weight loss since Aug. 07: 25 pounds!
Fitness Report:Could have been better. I've been spending a lot of time in front of my computer, but that happens when I don't have scheduled things to do. However, I did finally play DDR for about 20 minutes on Friday (?), discovering that I am still quite out of shape, more so than when I was playing it on a regular basis. I need more cardio! I did take a nice long walk (an hour and twenty minutes) from my house along the levy, enjoying the river. I just love being near water and it really was a good walk! I took my camera and took some good pictures of flowers. Overall effort 4/10.
Nutrition Report: On a scale of 1-10 on how well I've eaten (1 being "anorexic" and 10 being "gluttonous pig") I'd rate it a 5. I've done okay on some days, but I had a terrible case of the munchies and stuffed myself a couple of times, though I feel I'm justified on Easter. I actually haven't been eating as much since I've been sleeping in and don't eat "breakfast" until about 10 or 10:30. I've been eating less, but I still need to eat better, especially getting all my fruits and vegetables. Salad is on the menu for tomorrow, though tonight's Portabello mushroom "burger" was good! I barbecued a mushroom cap and treated it like the meat and it was quite tasty! It was cheaper than a beef patty anyway.
Goal for this coming week: Lose another pound to end up at 217.
Mid-range goal: Lose five pounds before the end of May.
Long-term goal: Be under 200 pounds by the end of the year. Heck, yah!
Great report Ame!
For the moment I'm resigning from the club because I seem to annoy more than encourage. I'm still working toward my goals and all but it's a work in progress and will be for a while.
BUT, I wanted to post some great and inspiring news.
My 16 year old son is about 5"11 and last month he was at 380 pounds. Since seeing a doctor and learning he has pre-diabetes and high blood pressure (not needing medicine at this time), and being placed on a diet and exercise plan, he is now down to 360.
This will justify your annoyance at me Cold :P but, my son attributes his success to:
RARELY drinking soda and then only diet
NOT eating school lunches
Having fastfood ONLY once a week if that
and playing basketball for several hours throughout the week (he says he hasn't been exercizing as much as he should be, but he's apparently doing a lot of the right things).
PLUS, he just got his first job ever (telemarketer lol) and he's doing so well that I'm just bursting over with pride.
The downside, though, is I see the man he has the chance of becoming.... so, while I want all my kids to come back home, I don't think it's in his best interest to do so.
We'll live out in the middle of nowhere and his job would be about a 1 1/2 hour drive away and our car is a gas hog. And the school he's attending now has a Latin class but his school here does not.
He turns 17 in August and 3 of my kids should be coming home before the new school year starts. I don't want him to come home if it will hinder his progress. But could he stay in his current Foster Home for an additional year? I have no idea, so I have a lot of questions to ask and concerns to raise to his Case Worker. But I also don't know how to tell him these things without having a part of him think I don't WANT him to come home. I do....
Hope everyone is doing well and sticking to their goals :)
I stopped eating fast food altogether.
After a month or two i had a burger from mcDonalds, and flip me - i felt really bad, so sick.
You really don't realise how bad the stuff is until you stop for a while and then try it again.
Yeah, I'm slowly seeing the light, so to speak.
I just hate eating and I hate cooking even more.
For me, having a grilled chicken sandwhich and a side salad instead of a baconator and large fries is huge progress for me.
My life is in limbo right now. I'm separated from my kids and live in an RV with only occasionally working water... I'm depressed, overwhelmed, and emotionally/mentally exhausted. The last thing I want to worry myself with is making healthy choices at the grocery store when it's so much faster, cleaner, and easier to drive 5 minutes down the road and pick something up to go.
When I get my kids back, I wont have that option. When we're together, we live over 40 minutes outside of town and far from any fastfood joint AND grocery store. Plus, I'd be cooking for the family which justifies (in my warped mind) having to wash dishes, long shopping trips etc.
Right now, while my diet is still very lacking (currently of veggies because my digestive system dislikes them for the most part) I want to make the better of two evils, so to speak, in the options I accept at this time. Which is still mostly fast food, but healthier options. Eating Long John Silver's Baked Salmon and vegetable meddly, instead of Big Mac and Fries from McD's for example. Or having a bottle of water for every coke I drink, and drinking Special K Protein Shakes in between.
And because I'm not overweight, I'm not overly motivated to change my eating habits. I want to tone, so I exercise. My weight is stable for the most part (fluctuates constantly by 5 pounds). And I'm eating fruit every day now. A few months ago, my fruit intake was maybe a couple servings a month. Now-a-days, I consume about 4 servings every single day.

Cheat Day (Optional): Saturday
Physical Goals: Lose 2-3 stone and tone up
Days you'll exercise: Sunday-Friday
Cardio Routine: Cycling on the Exercise Bike
Weight Routine: Situps, Plank, Pushups, Lifting weights (don't know the terms)
Current weight: 196 lbs
Why are you joining? Because i want to live a long healthy and active life, not a fat and sloppy one (whatever that means).
Currently i don't have anything set in stone at all, i sometimes exercise, i sometimes don't, the majority is me sat in bed or on a chair, not making much movement, i don't do weight exercises or anything. Recently i actually feel disgusted with myself and the fat hanging off me, so its time to make a change for life.
Good job, Ame. Keep up the good work.
Don't leave this thread, Zhaylin. I don't think you're annoying anyone. I think everyone is just trying to help. We just think that if you ate healthier food that it would help with a lot of your health issues. We just want to see you master this and start feeling better. So please keep trying-- and stay posting on this.
I'm glad your son is having success. Being a teenager is hard enough without having the extra challenges of being overweight and having health problems. I hope he continues to do well and that you can work things out.
Adrenaline Junkie, welcome. I'm glad you're ready to make some changes in your life. Good luck!!
Thanks TS :)
Right, i thought i'd get this off to a good start, here's my daily report thingy.

Not a very good day at all today, i was doing really well in the morning but it all went downhill, i was doing work today after eating the baked beans and I slowly began feeling weaker and then i just couldn't work so i ate the cheese on toast.
Didn't exercis either, just shows my willpower, but i needed some sugary boost to help me work since i just couldn't focus when i felt really weak. Its a weird feeling, probably sugar addiction.
I'll improve on this tomorrow, without a doubt.
Welcome AJ :) I thought your report was a good one. You had a very good weight training day, IMO. And while there was lots of junkfood in your diet, the cereal, cheese and toast and beans seem okay to me (but I have a horrible diet lol)
Thanks TwoShadows.
I just know how frustrating and annoying it must be to hear me whine about this and that, and then discard most of the advice I'm given. And it takes away from the posts of people who are genuinely trying instead of making a half-hearted attempt.
**Edit**
I'll have to keep coming here. I've not exercised at all since I stopped. So while my diet will not be perfect for a long time- to those I've frustrated, I apologize and please be patient- I need this place to remain active lol.

TS is right, no one here is annoyed, including myself. I wrote what I wrote mostly because you were wondering why you felt so emotionally/mentally/physically exhausted when it's so obvious the answer is right under your nose.
With your last post, I feel kinda bad on some of the other stuff I said. I understand where you're coming from - you're in a tough point in your life and you're just trying to alleviate the pressures that have built up to an almost intolerable level; not cooking helps this. I like to see that you acknowledge your unhealthy choices, and it really is great to hear you've stepped up your fruit consumption and have been doing your best at the fast food restaurants. It's important being able to recognize what you're doing wrong, and that's step 1.
The real test, however, will be when your life returns to normal and you'll have to drop any justification you had for fast food and lack of exercise. Being 40 minutes away definitely helps, but even at the homestead you can have a pantry filled with TV dinners and microwavable chimichangas. If you're serious about this fitness idea - which is reflected somewhat by your consistent posting - then you should have no problem.
Really, I just want you to succeed, and that's all there is to it. Keep in gear.
 Thank you.
I know you've had my best interests at heart :)
Cooking is definitely something I will need to work on once I get to the Farm. I'm going to bring it up during the parenting classes I have to take.
I have gone from feeding the crew TV meals every night, to Store premade crockpot meals with extra veggies thrown in. I stopped the TV meals several years ago when I realized how much sodium is in them.
So, don't feel even a little bad. You were just giving me much needed kicks in the rear to point me in the right direction :D
Uhg, my knees are getting worse :(
Zhaylin, I'm glad you are staying. Yes, any changes for the better will help you. Just keep working those in and you'll find it easier to eat healthier. I have noticed that the longer I have done well, the less I want to go back to eating poorly. It just doesn't seem worth it at all. Sure, sometimes if people are eating chocolate desserts or other things in front of me, I sometimes wish that I could have some, but not enough to actually eat it.
In fact, I had a dream last night about eating poorly. I think it shows how I feel about my eating.
Here it is as quoted from my DJ:
"Dream 2:
I was with this group of people who were having a party. They were serving Pineapple upsidedown cake. I suddenly decided I was so sick of being antisocial by never eating anything that was served at any place I ever go, that I decided to eat a piece of that cake. It didn't taste good at all and about half way through I was feeling terrible about breaking my goal to never eat sugar. I thought about all the much healthier choices I could have made that wouldn't have broken the goal-- and that would have actually tasted better to me anyway than that cake.
I felt very discouraged at the end of this dream. And I know that that's what it would be like in real life if I did that. I do sometimes feel antisocial when everyone is eating around me and I'm constantly saying "no thank you." But there's a part of me that feels so great and strong by always being able to do that, that I don't want to lose that. I like feeling/being in control of what I eat. I love the way my body feels now that I am eating healthier. That dream just shows my fear of losing that."
Now that said, I don't want to give the false impression that I eat perfectly. I have learned to cut out certain bad types of food. But I still like to eat. So my biggest challenges now are keeping that under control. For instance, I allow myself to eat almonds. And sometimes I find myself eating way more than the suggested serving size. So I have to really watch things like that. If I let myself get out of control, I could become fat by eating nothing but almonds.
And I have been slacking on the weight lifting this past week. Need to get that back to where it should be.
Oh, and my kayaking plans for today fell through. I may be able to do it with another friend tomorrow. But that's my only other day this week that I can get away. So I hope it works out.
I am so sorry to hear that, Ninja. :( I hope you can get them better again soon.
Another quote from my DJ because it goes well with what I have been saying (this is not a dream):
And I had another conversation with another good friend which happens to be a pastry chef, of all things. She is always making really cool things and wishing I could try them out. She always asks, "Now when are you going to be able to eat this kind of thing again?" And I always think, "Well, when I want to be fat and unhealthy again". But out loud I say, "probably not for a while." I don't want to people to think I'm trying to be better than they are by eating this way.
That's not good. :( I hope that they start to heal soon
Zhalin, you just reminded me of how useful a crockpot is. There are lots of great, simple recipes where you can just throw stuff in a crockpot and leave it for a few hours and then have a meal for several days. The hardest part is the preparation, depending on how much you want to throw in there, but more or less it's so simple. It's just an idea to think about.
I need to go for a walk. After a month of being unemployed, I think having too much time is starting to get to me just a teeny bit. Cabin fever hasn't quite set in, but I need to get out a bit more. I think I'll avoid the levy, though, considering what day it is (4-20). I don't normally worry about meeting strange people, but I'd rather try to avoid it all the same. :)
I kind of don't want to weigh in tomorrow, though. This last week wasn't the best...
Grats Abra!!
Ame, I LOVE the crockpot. When my kids are home, I will use two at once :)
I've not done much at all this week... I've been feeling too sick. In between "mold in my nose" (a smell only I detect), a yeast infection thanks to antibiotics, and a major sinus/ear infection, all I want to do is sleep.
My diet has been fairly well (as far as my diet ever goes)... I've been having grilled chicken sandwhiches and caesar salads from Wendy's about once a day and I've been drinking, water, some coke, and Special K Protein drinks. The Special K drinks are AWESOME!!! They're packed full of vitamins and nutrients and if you freeze the chocolate ones so that it thickens a little, it tastes just like a shake.
Vitamin Water is annoying me. About the only thing I can find now-a-days is Vitamin Water 10 which has an artificial sweetener in it (and ALL artificial sweetens taste like saccharin (sp) to me *blec* )
It only had 50 !!! calories before. It's not like it's a HUGE difference except taste wise.
I've not done a lick of excersizing... and I can feel a big difference. If the weather stays nice, 3 of my kids and I are going to a park on Saturday which is a perfect place for a walk. And... if no one is there and there's a swing set I'll even play the part of "monkey" :D I LOVE climbing. I take my shoes off and place my foot (toes splayed) against the pole and "walk" up it
I have a "stripper" pole in the back yard that I'm dying to use... but I placed it in the ground incorrectly and it wobbles too much. Plus, it's either been too cold or rainy.
I need to see about having one installed INSIDE at the Farm.
Even though I have to nurse a multitude of pulled and strained muscles at first, I stay in great shape when I have access to a pole. It's fun for me and not so much of a "chore".
 Ninja Hope your knee feels better soon.
Exercise consisted of my 2.5 hour Aikido class tonight. Phew.
Sorry guys, I haven't been posting lately. I've been going through some difficult times which I'd rather not talk about. Food is a stress reliever for me, as unhealthy as it is, but I am ready to start eating healthy again.
So, without further ado, here's my report for the day:
Exercises done today: Took a long walk in the woods
Areas of body worked today: legs

Walked 15 miles today, didn't do much else :( I'm getting lazy.
Poor ninja. Dude, just rest a bit and let your leg heal fully. D:
I will when it's not as nice out. I walked 6 miles today, run 5 and will run 5 more in a few hours :D
I wrote anew guide to distance running, this one aimed at more advanced runners.
I was ready to do 15 miles today, but I felt so good I ended up doing 22. The last 4 were agony :( I'll be sore tomorrow. I lost 10 pounds, I'm gonna go hydrate... seriously
No, 4 sets of 5 miles. It was all water weight, I'll gain almost all of it back.
Wasn't Bruce Wayne batman?

I hope the lack of activity on here is because it's Spring and the weather is nicer for people to be outside more :D
I've not been as active as I would like to be, but I have stopped smoking for a week now (I just relapsed but it was a one time only thing).
My nutrition has been improving by leaps and bounds as well.
My sleep has been horrendous though (I'm always tired and sleep horribly)
Tomorrow I'm plan on doing pilates.
I hope everyone is doing well.
Finally started walking for 3 hours again. My knee's a little sore still, but I'm icing it every day :D

Current weight: 170 give or take
Why are you joining?
I am joining so that way I can hold my self accountable, set goals, and learn what other people do to improve their fitness.
Btw, ninja. I'm sorry to hear about your knee. My dad recently got knee surgery because of the intense running he has done. He never stretched much tho, and I think that is a main reason. I'm sure you already know, but stretching lubricates the joins - preventing injury. I hope you get well soon, I know what it's like to not be able to do what you love due to physical limitations.

I am very skinny for my age, I think I just reaching the BMI level before anorexia. Obviously, this had knocked my self confidence back. I feel unable to do things such as swimming because my body is too skinny.
I am on a regular diet and I do little exercises. I just can't put weight on.
I am going to take a wild guess and say I need to put on muscle rather than fat?
Well, since this topic is for fitness. I was wondering if you guess have any advice for me. I particularly want more mass on my arms, my abdomen is more or less alright for me as I am already skinny.
Thanks Deano.
To build more muscle, make sure you're taking in enough protein for your body to use. Lean meats, nuts, beans, etc.
And just because you're skinny doesn't mean you can't swim. If you can get a hold of them, I'd recommend picking up a pair of fins to help with kicking exercises and hand-paddles (Example)to build up arm strength and work on proper technique. It really is a full-body workout which can also help increase your lung capacity with practice. I tend to get swimmer's ear relatively easy, so if you tend to get a lot of water in your ears, invest in a good pair of ear plugs (these are the only ones which have successfully worked for me) and a product like Auro Dry which is an isopropyl alcohol-based liquid which helps dry out the water in your ears.
That information goes for anyone considering swimming. I'm no pro, but I did swim on a team for a number of years. It's a great all-around workout if you keep up with it.
EDIT: Oh yah, I forgot about me.
Report: After not going to WW for two weeks and not eating well or exercising, I found I had gained back four pounds. It wasn't really that unexpected. However, yesterday when I weighed in, I found that I had lost 4.2 pounds, in part to the fact that I'm a girl. So, I'm still at 218 and feeling pretty good. My personal goal is 180; my medium-term goal is to be under 200 by the end of the year; my short-term goal to be under 210 by the time I leave for Russia. Clothes are fitting better and while I'm losing weight, I'm starting to think that I'm losing some muscle as well. I need to start exercising again so I continue losing the right kind of weight :P
I've dropped back into some bad eating habits, but I'm trying to start over. Tonight wasn't so good, but tomorrow will be better. It will!
Thanks for the reply. I have a really good opportunity to swim for the next few months for free, I am doing a ICT course involving the local swimming center and because I am helping them they have given me a free swimming pass for me to use for the duration of the course.
More protein and more exercise seems like the way forward. I think I might actually join this thing.
I have some arm weights, should I start using them?
If so, what weight do I start with?
I just finished my second year college and have found myself with a lot of free time on my hands. Guess there's no better way to spend it than on bettering myself physically and improving my health :P

*Note* I'm going to be very committed so anyone who needs a partner, know that I will stick with it ;)
It's nice to see all the activity! Welcome to all the new people :)
I've lost about 5 pounds in 1 week. It's probably water weight. I'm not trying to lose weight, I just have NO appetite and NO energy. Since I quit smoking on April 28, all I do is sleep. I sleep very poorly, but it's still sleep.
Yesterday I was on a "kitten hunt" for an hour, so I was outside walking the property and doing some light to heavy lifting of yard debris trying to find where my cat is hiding her babies.
That's the most exercise I've had in a couple of weeks :(
I want to start smoking again just to feel partially human! But if I can't tough out this asinine (sp) amount of complaints, then I have no business EVER returning to my congregation (I'm quiting 97% because of religious reasons, 2% for my hubby, 1% because of cost)
Blah... Time to go back to sleep...
i guess i will join :P

Today I ran seven miles consecutive, average of 8:40 per (my knee hurts now. T__T). I want to be able to run a half marathon by the end of the summer. Starting to get bored with my current routine. How often should I be running? What other types of runs should I go on? When/what should I eat before I run? These questions are directed at Ninja, mostly.
:content: I feel special, and I'm proud of you Abra, 7 miles is very impressive. You still in high school? Join the XC team :D
For boredom, I alternate my routes, I have three different loops that I run. OF course, an iPod doesn't hurt either. The best running music is Led Zeplin, Bruce Springsteen, and Phil Colins :D
You can run every day as long as you don't start feeling any injuries creeping up. First sign of shin splints or tendonitis, you should take a few days off. Ice every day, even if you're not injured, it's a good preventative.
Cross country (grass) is always the best running route, it's far less damaging to your joints, but running on roads aren't much.
You shouldn't eat before you run, you should eat after. You burn fat if have an empty belly, if you have just eaten, you burn carbs. You want those carbs to recovery. Immediately after your run, apples are best, they are high in concentrations of natural sugar, which get absorbed directly though the cheek instead of having to be digested. Then something high in protein, I like tofu or eggs :D
Just finished my first year of college. Good stuff. Last year, at this time, I was unable to run a single mile in less than 10 minutes. This is what college does to you, folks.
Hmmm. I usually eat complex carbs (whole wheat bagle, cereal) before running. I tried my 7 on an empty stomach, and I didn't die, so I guess it's alright. I wish I would've known this sooner!
Right now, I'm alternating every day between seven miles and three (then I take my dog for a two mile walk). When the weather is moderate again (which occurs frequently here) I might try going a full 14. You live in the south, right? How do you cope with the godawful humidity/heat?
No, I live in the north :P It's not that hot here, and you won't die of dehydration during a long run. I just make sure that I'm very hydrated before going out, I also run a 5 mile loop, so I pass my house a few times and can rehydrate then.
Shall we bump guys?
I've been biking the last little while, just going for intense ten to twenty minute'ers. Yesterday I went for a bike ride, did 100+ pushups, worked out at my friends house, and swam.
Today I went for a bike ride and sit ups... I might be going to aikido later tonight, too.
I haven't been doing crap on a regular basis. Hubby has been using me to help install his AC and stuff so I've been getting quite the work out recently, but I need to schedule it in.
My diet sucks royally. It's so blasted hot that all I really want to eat is ice.
Thanks for the reminder to exercise etc.

Why are you joining? See above. I've been doing my own weight loss program for the past 8 weeks and have lost 18 pounds so far, and for some reason I've been wary about joining this thread, I'm not really sure why. But anyway I'm here now.
I've been journaling my daily intake on www.fitday.com, I highly recommend it. It really helps you see just how fucked up your diet can be. Personally I don't eat much at all, ever, and the reasons for my abnormal weight is a mystery to even my doctors. Before these past two months I'd literally NEVER lost a pound in my life, no matter how hard I tried. But that's changed and the rest of my life is looking up.
The key to losing weight isn't about eating less or little, it's about eating through out the day, roughly a handful of food (apple, banana, orange, nuts & berries) every 2 to 3 hours. This prevents your body from going into starvation mode which makes your body store more calories which makes you gain weight.
Of course eating 2-3 hours can be a hard task, it also costs a lot more money to eat healthy than it does to eat frozen packaged foods. If you can't eat every 2-3 hours, try having a breakfast that will give you a quick boost while giving you long term energy. Packaged oatmeal is great because it has a bit of sugar in it, and the actual oatmeal stay's in your stomach for a few hours. Your lunch should be the biggest meal of the day, and dinner should be slightly less than lunch.
Also remember the basics, grains, vegetables and protein. Grains should be the largest portion of your diet, vegetables and protein should take up roughly the same percentage of your meal.
A very important part is cutting the sodium and excess sugar out of your diet.
You could already know all this, but I'm just throwing it out there for everyone benefit.
To give an update of my situation:
I've been stretching and doing tai chi pretty much everyday, sometimes twice. My flexibility is improving, but I find my hamstrings and groin area are the most painful to stretch. I think it's a ligament on the inside of my thigh, it's pretty painful for me to stretch there, seems like I can't loosen it up. I've stopped running though, I'm hoping to pick up a YMCA membership soon and get back into swimming and weight lifting. Although I'll probably take it easy with the weights because I don't feel the need to bulk up, plus my day job is very physical.
I should take a bit of my own advice, my diet hasn't been the greatest lately, but I haven't gained any weight yet fortunately.
Ahhh. Why don't we just have another section in DV for this bumping a 15 pages thread isn't so fun. But I'll stop my whining so here:

How Food Affects Mood
By: Sue Gilbert
Scientists are proving that what's in the foods you eat can effect the chemical composition of your brain. The foods you eat can affect your mood, including your level of alertness and your perception of pain.
What is it about foods that yields this kind of power? It is foods ability to alter the production or release of neurotransmitters, the chemical messengers that carry information from one nerve cell to another. Neurotransmitters are responsible for such important bits of information, like "I'm full" or, "AGG! I'm very anxious about this!"
The Theory
Just how does a food affect neurotransmitters? According to Dr. Richard Wurtman at MIT, who is involved in numerous studies on nutrition and the brain, the nutrients in foods are precursors to neurotransmitters, and depending on the amount of precursors present in the food you eat, the more or less of a certain neurotransmitter is produced. Although this process may seem fairly straightforward, it is complicated by the fact that foods most often are made up of more than one nutrient, and how those different nutrients interact will also impact the production and release of neurotransmitters.
The Practice
Despite the complexity, there are certain established bits of knowledge of how food affects your mood that you can put into practice.
* Boost your alertness with protein. Protein foods are broken down into their amino acid building blocks during digestion. One amino acid, called tyrosine, will increase the production of dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine. These neurotransmitters are known for their ability to increase levels of alertness and energy. No one eats pure tyrosine, but eating foods high in protein will give you a slight mental boost. High protein foods include fish, poultry, meat, and eggs. If you can't eat those, try high protein foods that also contain significant amount of carbohydrates, such as legumes, cheese, milk, or tofu.
* For relaxation and anti-stress, eat carbohydrates. Eating carbohydrates will trigger the release of insulin into the blood stream. Insulin goes about clearing all the amino acids out of the blood, with the exception of tryptophan. Tryptophan is an amino acid that normally gets crowded out by other amino acids in its attempt to cross the blood brain barrier, but when its competitors are out of the way, it enters the brain en mass. Once in the brain, the tryptophan is converted to serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that has the effect of reducing pain, decreasing appetite, and producing a sense of calm, and in too large a quantity, inducing sleep. Research has shown that dieters tend to become depressed about two weeks into a diet, about the time their serotonin levels have dropped due to decreased carbohydrate intake. Healthy carbohydrate foods to turn to for anti-stress include whole grain breads and crackers, whole grain pasta, rice, cereal, and fruits.
* For the most beneficial effect of either carbohydrate or protein, eat them separately. For example, the energy boosting effect of protein will be offset if you start out a lunch of fish (pure protein) with a roll (mostly carbohydrate). Make the protein the first food that you eat, and then, go lightly on the carbohydrate if it is mental alertness you are after.
* Caffeine can be an effective antidepressant. Despite its bad rap, caffeine can do some good. For mild cases of depression which do not need medical attention, a little caffeine can be an effective antidepressant. It has the added benefit of not needing to increase the dosage daily to get the same effect. Long term epidemiological evidence more than supports the safety of a cup or two of coffee a day. More than that however can begin to have counterproductive effects in some people.
* Likewise, folic acid is an important counter to depression. Folic acid deficiencies have been linked to depression in clinical studies. Folic acid deficiency causes serotonin levels in the brain to decrease. Psychiatric patients with depression have much higher rates of folic acid deficiency than the general public. As little as 200 micrograms was enough to relieve the depression -- that amount is easily obtained in a cup of cooked spinach or a glass of orange juice.
* Lack of selenium can cause bad moods. Individuals suffering from a lack of selenium have been shown to be more anxious, irritable, hostile, and depressed than their non-lacking counterparts. Correcting deficiencies normalizes mood, but getting more does not elevate mood further. It is speculated that selenium may have some unknown neural function, but as of yet, its mode of action is unknown. Be sure to get your daily dose by eating a Brazil nut, or tuna sandwich, sunflower seeds, whole grain cereals, or swordfish.
* Put eggs back in your diet to improve memory and concentration. One nutrient that many of us are apt to be low on, in our fervor to avoid high-cholesterol foods, is choline. Choline is a B complex vitamin that is concentrated in high cholesterol foods like eggs and liver. A lack of choline can cause impairment of memory and concentration. Choline is a precursor to the brain neurotransmitter, acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is linked to memory. People given drugs that block acetylcholine flunk memory tests. Low levels of acetylcholine have been linked to Alzheimer's disease and poor memory. What a good excuse to put eggs back on your diet plan!
Excellent post, Jeff!!
Thanks for sharing that.
 Ninja Get better soon.
To everyone signing up here: Welcome to the club!
I've been running around like crazy for the last couple days to get ready for a 4 day trip to California.
I also helped hubby move a 50 pound box from his office to the house :D
My diet still sucks. In between the heat and my usual laziness when it comes to meals, I have a LOT to work on.
I bought a Big Mac meal at about 11 the morning. I ate half of the fries and that's it. It's too hot to even have an appetite lol. What I need is a HUGE cup of ice
I've been dreaming about fruit, so perhaps I need to pay attention to my subconscience and get some crispy goodness. Berries sound very good, but Cantelope sounds divine.
I think it's time to go to the store :boogie:
My blood pressure has been sucking at 120/100 and a pulse of 118 and all I'm doing is packing and sweating bullets. It's still about 85 degrees in the RV :?
Good to see you back in here Zhaylin :D. Get that body into shape and that diet straightened out! ;)
Just finished 15 minutes of Pilates on Wii fitness. Did lower body exercising tonight. Burned 26 calories.
I'm running out the door now for the airport :D
If I don't "see" you guys soon it's because I don't have internet access lol
(But one can hope)
I'll definitely get a lot of walking in!!
Be back on Sunday.
Got my $10 a month membership at Planet Fitness.
I'll be posting in here often. :>

Cheat Day: Saturday
Physical Goals: Increase my stamina. Increase my overall strength. Gain some weighth.
Days you'll exercise: I don't exercise on a regular basis. I play soccer and bike every now and then.
Cardio Routine: Biking, Soccer, Walking
Weight Routine: None.
Current weight: 140
Why are you joining? I really need to increase my stamina. That's my main priority. I'm really skinny too, so some additional weighth wouldn't be too bad either. I need the motivation to start exercising more though.
Good to see this thread was finally bumped.
I haven't done any muscle work in exactly one month. I need to increase my push-up count by the end of August...
As far as running goes, I'm still at my 7 miles. My friends are telling me to sign up for this one half-marathon in September. I'm sure I can handle it, but I don't just want to "handle" it. I want to do well. I'd practice by going on my normal route twice (getting a mile over what a half marathon is), but I'm wondering how many times I should do that before the race. What other training can I do?
The only thing I'm worried about is screwing up my back. I swear there are two vertebrae back there that feel stuck together. I get back pain in general... What can I do?
As for the backpain I have similar problems. I always go see a chiropractor as soon as I experience any sort of backpain that last for more than a week. My chiropractor also always provides me with exercises that are good for my back. I'm not sure what kind of back pain you are talking about though. Is it just aching or does it feel like you've pulled something?
Ran for 30 minutes today... 2.5 miles.
Gonna hit the bike later, probably 5 miles.
It's an aching, happens a lot when I lie down for sleep.
Anyway, just got back from running 13 miles, taking advantage of the perfect cool n' cloudy sky. Should've probably had more than just ice cream for dinner last night. Should've probably had breakfast. As soon as I got home, I shoved a peach and a handful of strawberries in my mouth, and then made a couple eggs. :3
http://www.doctoryourself.com/backache.html
This is the method i use Abra.
Sit in the middle of the bed, legs straight out in front of you. Then, from the hips up, pivot to the right as far as you reasonably can. Now lie back. You should be shaped like a boomerang, mate. And you will feel a profound “pulling” sensation in your lower back, hip and upper leg. Relax and stay in that position for five minutes by the clock. Repeat the process to the left.
That site is actually very handy.
If you have lower back pain try doing hipcircles. Do big ones and little ones.basically you stand still, feet at shoulder length or whatever is most comfortable and move your tail bone in a circle.
It's raining hard and I got sick tonight so no bike ride :(
But I'm hitting the gym at 10am again tomorrow.
 W00t! Go Xox! :D

Physical Goals: I'm hoping to gain muscle, as well as become stronger. However, my main goal is to increase my endurance. I'm starting Varsity football at my High School this year, and I get tired very easily.
Days you'll exercise: Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays are the only times I can use the gym for weight lifting at the moment, cardio I'll do every day every day.
Cardio Routine: I'll be running at the track every day. A 200, 300, 400, 400, 300, and 200.
Weight Routine: Bench Press, Squats, Power Clean, and Deadlift. I'll also be doing auxiliary lifts; arms on Monday, legs on Wednesday, and Back and Abs on Thursday.
Current weight: 176
Why are you joining? Well, I don't really need much motivation to lift. When it comes to those cardio workouts though, it's extremely hard to push myself. I'm hoping that making it public whenever I fail to accomplish them will spur me on.
Welcome Karnie. We'll definitely stay on your ass if you fall off. ;)
Is there anyway we can have fitness as a little section on it's own? The thread is too long that barely anyone visits anymore =(
While I don't think that's likely to happen, you're more than welcome to voice your opinions HERE in our Meta forum. :)
I think that's a good idea... I'll propose it.
Job done, also 400th post in the thread!
Joined a gym yesterday.
10-20 minutes on treadmills/stairclimbers. Today I ran 7 mph for 5 minutes, then jogged for 5 minutes.
Worked on upper body strength for 30-40 minutes. Several different machines including but not limited to bench pressing, chin ups, pull ups, push ups, and other machines I don't know the name of.
20-30 minutes of leg training
Different resistance machines, etc.
Listen up, you will be impressed. Yesterday I biked 20 miles, then I played soccer for 1 hour and later in the night I walked for 3 hours! :D Man I had 15 pieces of Veggie sushi afterwards!
