Your blood pressure may be fine - overall - but the heat does slow (or is it speed up?) your heart rate. It also dehydrates you, both of which can cause you to feel dizzy or even blackout. Standing up probably just enhanced the effect. I'm no expert or anything, though. I do know that people who take certain drugs that affect the heart are in much greater danger of dying, if they are in a sauna or hot tub or something, for an extended period of time. |

OMG! Thats EXACTLY the same thing that happend to me today! I took a hot bath and then after i stood up, i got a head ache amd i felt sick. Then when i finished my bath, i got out of the bathroom and then i couldnt see probably and i completely freeked out. I sat down on the stairs and waited till i could see and till the head ache went. I could see but the head ache stayed so i called for my dad and he said i was pale. The i threw up... He said it was beacause the water in the bath was waaaaay to hot. :/ |

I have this same thing happen to me sometimes, but I've never thrown up. What I think happens, based upon my knowledge of anatomy, is that the hot water dilates your blood vessels (vasodilation) which then makes your blood pressure drop. So standing up when combined with the low blood pressure can make the blood drain from your brain pretty quickly (Usually, our blood vessels constrict and our heart starts to beat faster when we stand up so that the blood pressure doesn't go down too quickly and our brains can keep getting oxygen). This can cause you to get dizzy, throw up, pass out. Sometimes, this can be a red flag of a serious illness involving the thyroid gland, the heart, the brain. But it is more often just caused by taking some kind of drug that also dilates your blood vessels (liquor, nicotine, high blood pressure medication), dehydration, or recently eating. |
