The attempt to reduce the line between separation of church and state is not good at all and the lightening of slavery while at the same time trying to make the confederacy look better is also very stupid.

But there are some things I dont see a problem with. For instance, in the science curriculum I dont see why teaching technological advances caused by war is bad. Certainly newton shouldnt be DROPPED but I dont see why its bad to teach where a lot of our technology has came from. I also dont see whats so bad about teaching conservative economics. In my high school it was almost the opposite economics wise, we werent given a fair view of conservative versus liberal ideas, they just tried to bang the spend spend mentality in us. I think both sides of the economic coin deserve study.

Overall, though, this is a very bad bill. even with the points I just said, they are going about it the wrong way, basically making a swing to the opposite extreme, which doesnt help anyone.

The next step would be for schools to re-write history entirely, and I have a bad feeling that's where we are headed.

It's things like this that make me extremely angry. As they say in 1984, he who controls the present controls the past, and he who controls the past controls the future. This is what is being attempted in texas.

Pretty soon they'll say that the Republican party is equivalent to the clergy and that all liberals are heretics.

Texas, please secede. You have it in your constitution. Thank you.

Some seem positive, some bad, and some neutral.

Talking about guns is a really important issues, that probably should be taught in school more, I agree with that.

Thomas Jefferson was an important figure, and should be studied. Getting rid of him really is bizarre.

The science stuff they shouldn't be messing with at all, though I see no problem with talking about advances from war, since sadly its true.

      Israel stuff is outright bullshit.

Atlantic triangular trade isn't a bad name, and it entirely depends on the context that it is in. I havn't read the book so I don't know the new context.

Overall I wouldn't say its a right ring bases though. Downplaying slavery, and promoting southern generals isn't a conservative thing. Might be more accurate to say its taking on a southern hick biases?

I second this. Ever read "1984" by George Orwell? Hmm....

The board is to vote on a sweeping purge of alleged liberal bias in Texas school textbooks in favour of what Dunbar says really matters: a belief in America as a nation chosen by God as a beacon to the world, and free enterprise as the cornerstone of liberty and democracy.
      o.o Now that's scary.

What's scary is that it's been known for years that fundamentalists have been conspiring to win school board elections in texas (and other states) to gain just exactly the kind of power that they now have. However nobody has done anything about it. It now seems that our main hope is for California to ban books that conform to the new standards so that textbook publishers will be forced to at least give other states a choice between the two sets of books.
