- Are you an idiot?
- No sir, I'm a dreamer.
I think Nobel Peace prizes are pretty superficial and pointless really. I mean, Al Gore, seriously..? |
|
I admire Obama's aims, but giving him the Nobel Prize before he actually gets any real results is just plain stupid, and makes a mockery of the entire thing. |
|
I'm glad they have at least some rationale, in terms of his efforts toward the Muslim world and with nukes, but yeah, I don't see what it accomplishes, compared to others who could use the exposure and the money to aid their cause. |

If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama
*sighs, shakes head* that was all I was going to put...but I decided I would put my two cents in that this is more of an effort to give america a bit of a face lift than anything else. |

Reading more about it, I can see a little better where they were coming from, giving Obama the peace prize. Just by winning the election, having campaigned on diplomacy, conflict avoidance, and conflict resolution, Obama (or really, the people who elected him) caused people around the world to question their perception of the USA as an enemy and others to question their cynicism toward our ideals of equality, "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." People touched by our current conflicts or living under our sanctions were reassured of our good faith to bring those situations to a close. |

Oh? I never heard the name. I thought my father made the pun up. |

Let's have an update. It is May of 2014 now. How much of a peace champion has Obama turned out to be? Was he worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize because of the pro-peace actions he was going to take later? He kept the Iraq War going for almost his entire first term and continues to keep a major U.S. presence there, expanded the war in Afghanistan and keeps it going, drones the Middle East on a regular basis, keeps Gitmo open, signed the continuation of the Patriot Act, and signed the National Defense Authorization Acts that allow for the indefinite detention and killing of U.S. citizens without trial. Does that sound like an ideal Nobel Peace Prize winner? |

Maybe if it's just me, but whenever people refer to "Obama" and "Nobel Peace Prize," it's usually in the context of a joke. In short, people generally think Obama having the Prize is comedy. Not sure if it was ever really taken seriously except for among some of his diehard followers. |

The only thing I agree with is his involvement in trying to legitimize the the medical marijuana movement... And even that is debatable :/ |

He won the prize directly after being elected, essentially meaning the American people that elected him won it for not electing another war-mongering terrorist. Unfortunately he betrayed them and upped the violence. |
|
Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.
Politicians should always be judged based on what they have actually done. Obama got elected the first time when he hadn't done much other than get elected to lower offices, work as a community organizer, and hang out with terrorists. People keep electing politicians based almost entirely on what they say, and it (among other things) is making politics really dysfunctional. Deceiving the public got way too easy, but I do think the tide has turned. |

Unfortunately his successor will not be much different, the power structure that exists in this country is far out of control and drunk with power and money and they have no intention of bringing their reign to an end any time soon. Obama broke every promise and he is a wolf in sheep's clothing like every other back stabbing two faced politician on this planet. It is a complete disappointment what humanity has allowed to transpire right under our sleeping noses. |

hehe its good to see you are still here, people change views all the time and its bound to happen upon stumbling on new ideas and information, I used to be a hardcore libertarian myself and to some extent still have some libertarian views but im more mixed these days. |

I'm sorry you've been down some, but I'm glad you're doing better. It's an insane world out there. However, it's a fascinating one. I've been all right for the most part, though I have had some unfortunate circumstances here and there. I still post here sometimes. The traffic here slowed down a lot, and I think it has a good bit to do with the fact that popular movies about lucid dreaming haven't been coming out in recent years. My compulsive internet posting transferred mainly over to YouTube. I'm trying to slow it down. I have a serious internet posting addiction that I might need to start attending meetings to get past. |

Aw sorry to hear that, life unfortunately likes to throw obstacles on a daily basis, each day the obstacles become tougher, which makes or breaks us. Some of us become stronger and succeed and some of us fall apart and stumble, but you can always get back up and show life who is tougher. |

Thanks. I appreciate that. Posting on the internet is like part video game, part university class, part debate, part self-expression, part social gathering, part comedy event, and part activism. It's all of those things at once, and that makes it addictive. It's not as bad as some addictions, but it can be a problem. Fortunately, there are some good benefits that come with it. I have learned a whole lot of stuff I wouldn't have learned by now if it weren't for this addiction. I just think I need to start reading books more instead. The activism aspect of it starts to feel futile after a while. I've said just about everything I needed to say about politics and religion. I feel like telling the world, "Those are my thoughts. Take them or leave them." In all of this time, I have probably gotten about three people to start to agree with me. |

Good points, there is a pro and con to everything in life, that's what makes life so amazing, and bad at the same time. |
