      Sugar Molecule found in space!

A sugar molecule linked to the origin of life on earth has been found in the distant region of the milkyway 26,000 lightyears away! Whats more the sugar was detected drifting through a star forming region of the galaxy which could be host to life friendly planets.

They used the cloud's absorption spectrum, obviously.

The planet Earth exhibits all of these properties and therefore can be considered alive and its own single organism by the scientific definition.

does the planet Earth reproduce, well no unless you count the moon.

LONDON: A sugar molecule, linked to the origin of life on Earth, has been found in a distant region of the Milky Way, some 26,000 light years away.

Glycolaldehyde can react with propenal to form ribose, an important ingredient in RNA and DNA – the basic units of life. The molecule has been detected in deep space before, but only in regions too extreme to nurture life, such as the cold and sparse galactic centre, said Viti.

They have to say molecule because saying molecules would be inductive. The light they absorbed came from a single molecule.

Yes, a single molecule, many times across many molecules.

Yes I can see that now, but from the way the OP wrote it it sounded like they'd found a single molecule floating in space thousands of lightyears away, not lots of one type of sugar molecule.

Pretty interesting, although it's hard to draw any real conclusions from it.
