Yes, it unfortunately is. But I don't think complaining compels to us. I mean, this is a huge website, and it surely takes some money to host it, and keep it active and sound 24hours a day. LD4all, for examples, relies on donations, but I think it's a quite disorganised way. Donations would work yeah, we have many members who would willfully contribute, but let's not forget Topcola is not a non-profit organisation.
I think it's the price of having a great website. I myself have an adblocker software, which is extremely reliable in my opinion. I mean, I live in Brazil, it's not like 80% of the ads have me as a target.
Who the hell goes on the main page anyways?
Hardly, most people search lucid dreams and find the forum, not the main page. And most click the forum off the bat, anyways.
At first when I read the first post I was like...so? big deal. Then I saw the main page for myself...that's horrific...and huge.
Make a poll about it and you'll see actually a nice deal of people firstly sought the website and then the forum. I mean ,the website consists of explanations, and the forum cosists of discussions. If you've got no clue of what lucid dreamign is, it's on the main page that you'll find it.
Anyone who buys into those ads deserves to waste his money.
You do realise that all these arguments about how ineffective the ads are the way they are now may very well make TopCola place ads all over the forum for all, even logged in users, making it sickening to browse, right?
duh! What part of...Icedawg sold Dream Views DON'T you guys understand :P
And I agree with Wasup. As long as the ads stay outta the forums...I don't have any probs with them.
These ads have been there for months. They don't bother me that much and people probably just disregard google ads as worthless text on websites. It's almost invisible. I think this shouldn't really bother anyone, since it could've been much much worse. The "cover half of the page with blinking lights and pop up in front of your eyes covering the second half" kind of adverts are the much worse kind, if you haven't figured it out yet.
Perhaps the ones on the forum are more problematic and I hope people aren't discouraged from joining because of them.
I little slow?
Yes, it was sold. With that came a compromise.
It really is not the place to discuss what business venture took place. Either way, it is now a business.
Do the advertisements effect your experience on these boards? Are you compelled to click them?
So what's the problem if the owners are trying to cut costs or get a little pocket money?
OUCH! I totally didn't notice them, but I do now. Wouldn't be so bad if they were relevant to dreaming. Which would make them more money, too.
Edit: Ah yes I see that some are. Except for the flashy "I MAKE 1000 PER HOUR!!!! WANNA LEARN HOW????"
Yes, DV is no longer a non-profit organization...
Just be glad its not like the other forum I'm on. They just added ads so even the REGISTERED members can see them - not only at the top, but within the actual threads. Count yourselves lucky.
I believe Asher said hes not going to put ads up for registered members on the forum, so it really shouldn't be much of a bother. I see the ads at the front page, and to be honest they don't seem that bad to me. Then again, I might just be used to them.
Still since every click generates a little $$, I click them a couple times a day, just to be supportive.
A moderator there too?
We should get you a theme song.
Dr. Burns! Internet Authority!
LOL :rolllaugh:
Oi, am I the only one here who doesn't go on other forums?? :P Perhaps I can use this as a way to excuse my high post count.
