Thread: Provincial Election Looming

Hey so I know a good chunk of Canadians here live in BC.. So I have to ask you, what are your thoughts on the upcoming election in May? Any early predictipns? Who do you support and why?

I really think this election isn't going to have results anywhere close to the polls. I think Christy Clark is going to get spanked hard, maybe as hard as the NDP and I'm thinking the Greens and Conservatives make huge strides.

I'm in favor of replacing the BC Liberals with either the NDP or the Greens. I agree that the Greens will make some gains this elections, and rightfully so, they ran a good campaign. The Conservatives may get a boost as well, but I suspect that has more to do with the wave of conservative discontent that's been picking up steam since the Harper administration was ousted than with actual BC politics. Quite frankly, the BC Conservatives are useless as a party in their current state.

I won't get my hopes up though, the BC Liberals ended up winning in 2013 despite polls predicting otherwise. Their dirty smear campaign won them power last time around, and I wouldn't be surprised if people fall for it again.

For now, it seems we've got a minority government on the way, with a Green caucus (the first in North America) holding the balance of power. If this still holds to be true after the final count, the Green Party's commitment to electoral reform and banning both corporate and union political donations could change BC's entire political scene for the better.
