I could go off for a long time about what is horribly and terrifyingly wrong with the hot air salesman Donald Trump, who flip flops all over the place, speaks in really vague terms about what he is supposedly going to do, and appeals to emotion through personality and very little reasoning. He is demonstrating why dictators get powerful, and I think he is the scariest U.S. presidential candidate of all time. However, I am writing this post mainly to show one really good demonstration of what kind of person Trump is. Please spread this video really far. The actual clip is from 1:17 to 1:32.

Even if what you're doing isn't hating back (which I don't really think it is), there's never really a time where you should stop asking yourself if you are doing the right thing. That's how you end up like Trump in the first place. Now, it's no secret he's not fit for presidency and definitely an asshole, I found it kind of funny how what you described him as, and what he's doing is exactly what other politicians do. If I take out the bit out "hot air salesman Donald Trump", and instead say: a politician is someone "who: flip flops all over the place, speaks in really vague terms about what he is supposedly going to do, and appeals to emotion through personality and very little reasoning". I can't think of a single presidential race that I have been alive for, in which even a single candidate does not fit this description. Trump may be less qualified for other reasons, but these are qualities I see in all politicians running for office. What's really terrifying to me, is that people are willing to recognize these traits in Trump because he represents some archetype of the evil businessman, and they think he is trying to sell them something (which he is, he is most definitely trying to manipulate people). However, because the other candidates are politicians who hold office, people don't assume the same thing about them (and they are most definitely trying to manipulate people too). Granted, I'm generalizing. To be clear, I don't support Donald Trump whatsoever, I think him running is a joke (and I almost believe it is, it's like he lost a bet or something lol). However, several of the other candidates are similarly not suited to run the country, but they are also some of the biggest front runners.

Well, I wasn't meaning to imply that they are on equal footing. I don't mean that at all. I just mean that the reasons UM mentioned are the same reasons I've seen a lot of people mention about Trump. The reasons he gave specifically for him being a bad/dangerous choice are the same characteristics I see in other candidates. These points are valid, but they don't separate him from the rest. Other reasons certainly do, he is obviously the worst choice out of every candidate in either party.

I need to know that they understand government and can handle government, and I need to know what they did when they worked in government. Very few details of his supposed plans have been communicated to the public. Also, the politicians I support don't flip flop too much. Can you give me examples of major flip flops by Ron Paul, Rand Paul, or Gary Johnson? You won't find many. Trump's flip flopping isn't the usual politician routine. He went from being a Democrat to being a Republican hero without ever even announcing that he had changed. He just acts like he was never a Democrat or great friends with the Clintons. Other politicians make a big thing of switching parties. His followers don't seem to give a damn, and that is lunacy. What freaks me out the most about Trump isn't even his slick manipulation style. It is the fact that he has so much enthusiastic support despite the fact that he is a vague, rude as Hell, ignorant, extremely inconsistent, inexperienced egomaniac. The fact that somebody can be like that and get anywhere in U.S. politics is scary as Hell. It shows just how dumb so much of the American public is. Thinking Donald Trump is a good candidate is on a level with thinking professional wrestling is real. I am baffled by how many Americans buy into it. A small faction of stupid people can be hilarious, but this Trump nightmare quit being funny months ago.

I think sometimes that people like to be stupid, especially if being stupid means that they can ignore that the things that went wrong in their lives were mostly their fault, and not the fault of, say, illegal immigrants, Obama, Democrats, etc. Okay, "like" might be the wrong word; perhaps it's the case that they gravitate toward stupidity, which in the short term is the most rewarding cliff from which to fall. A low information existence is an easy existence, and -- especially for those whose life is currently difficult -- easy is very tempting. The Right began capitalizing on this possibly unconscious interest in voluntary stupidity decades ago, and began a long-term program of capitalizing on it. This capitalization was centered in talk radio and Fox News, but eventually became institutionalized in the Republican party itself. In time they created an expansive enough echo-chamber that anything they said, any history they changed (i.e., Obama was president when the Great Recession started, and was the one who bailed out the banks, the rewrite of Reagan's entire presidency, G.W. Bush had no terror attacks during his presidency), quickly became the "truth," and any attempt to correct the misinformation was assumed to be a lie -- even physical proof became meaningless. Also, they created a world of things to fear, amplifying everything wrong in the world into world-threatening monstrosities (no, I think Hitler and Robert Oppenheimer would take exception to the proclamation that ISIS is the greatest threat the world has ever faced). This echo-chamber encased millions of Americans, most of them white men with minimal education, maximum financial woes, and a real need to blame someone for everything that went wrong in their lives. Trump, a long-time opportunistic bottom-feeder, saw the opening and decided to ante up. The truly frightening aspect of all this is that Trump is so good at his fear/hate-mongering that he has expanded that echo-chamber of affected stupidity far beyond the Right's original base. Now millions of otherwise good, sane people have chosen to stand behind his empty yet dangerous shouting, just because it makes them feel good for a second, so he is not only likely to be nominated for the presidency, but he might actually win. Add to that Americans' bizarre need to be on the winning side in an election, plus the fact that Clinton is a mediocre candidate at best, and we might just see a President Trump next year for sure. I still hold out hope that we're not all willing to be stupid, and that, come the general election, the 70 to 80% of voters who are not part of the republican base will come to their senses... but that hope grows more tenuous every day.

I've learned that it's no use to have a negative perception over things beyond my control. The outcome of the presidential election is one of those things.
