Senate CIA Torture Report Released: "Mismanaged Dungeons"
I've mainly stayed away from ED, since I've been back - knowing that past debates have had a tendency to take up unhealthy amounts of my time and patience (and sanity) - however, this is pretty big news...
Anyone, who was around here during the beginning phases of the Iraq War, knows that whether the U.S. does or does not torture was a hot topic, at the time. Of course, all we could do in that time was speculate and voice our opinions and biases. Well, after 5 years, the Senate's report into the CIA's program of "enhanced interrogation" on terror 'suspects' has just been released. What's inside may shock some, infuriate others, and come as absolutely no surprise to others.
I haven't read the full report, so far, but what's been highlighted by most media outlets is that these programs have repeatedly (often viciously) overstepped their bounds and gone through great lengths to try and cover up their actions.
The blow-back from this report could go either way. There are many of us who had an idea of what was going on, but there are many, across the globe, who weren't so well-informed, and this could add gallons of fuel to an already raging inferno of anti-corruption sentiment toward the West.
