Looks really close to me :)
Eh. Maybe the far away shots on the tiny view boxes, but upon closer inspection, far from it. The lighting's close.
Besides, film production CGI has been and will ALWAYS be at least 10-20 years ahead of games as far as quality graphics and animation goes (for obvious reasons).
Not remotely close.
The animation is pretty good though, which goes a long way.
If you want something close to photorealism, check out Crysis, tweaked to fully maximize the graphic capabilities. The level of detail and lighting really is mind blowing.
It's almost like going outside and playing sports!
Look what consoles has done to you. You actually think that is good graphics? It's hardly better than Gears of War, and it's definitely not better than Crysis. A game that was released in 2007.

Console? What console? That's a PC with dx11 maxxed out :3
Yes, but the game has also been released on the Xbox360, which means that the developers have to put limits on the graphics. This can typically be seen in the texture resolution and amount of objects in the scene. You very very rarely see a scene with more than 5 mutants/players. You very rarely see a scene with more than 10 movable object, or widely covering foliage.
I wonder if we'll ever achieve photo-realism in games. Well at least when I'm still alive.
I honestly think it's been done already, after all those companies do have software not even known to the public yet.
We will be getting closer the moment that we get real-time rendered global illumination. Epic Games is working on implementing pre-rendered GI in their Unreal Engine, which is a huge step towards extremely realistic lighting, but until we get the processing power to actually render GI real time, we won't be seeing anything close to photo realism.
Here you can have a look at what should at some point be possible to render in real time. It puts into perspective how incredibly far we still are from photo realism. Also, take a look at those textures. The resolution is huge.

It was only about 15 years ago that videogames looked like this:

I think most of us here will live to see the day.
