      Question on Online Gaming

I moved to Africa a couple months ago and i havent played WoW since then and i am a little on edge tbh. And as you probably already know Africa is lagging a couple dacades behind in technology and now im stuck with a bullshit dial up connection that's around 115.2 kbps. I was living in the Netherlands before so i had the EU WoW.
My question is if i can still play from west Africa. The time zones are pretty much the same but im worried about latency. I hear ppl in South Africa play on EU servers and thats about twice as far away but im not sure if its worth it.
Does anyone know what my ping will be like?
Also does Bandwidth affect latency, and will broadband be a better idea?
If i get a connection around 1-3mpbs would i still be able to play?
Not only wow though i also play a lot of FPS's. TF2, COD, CS, HF2 etc...
      Thanks

I have no idea what I am talking about

It says on the backside of the WoW box that 56k is the minimum requirement. Broadband is recommended though.

I suggest you go to http://www.speedtest.net/ and try pinging Paris. The WoW EU Servers are located in France afterall, so that should give you a rough idea of how your latency should be. However, with as small a connection as yours, the bandwidth will probably affect your ping. If you can get broadband on a reasonable price, I suggest you get it.

Luxembourg was the closest i could get to France

So what do you think? Playable? This is with dial-up btw, so will i see a significant improvement if i switched over?

      470/314 ping?

Er...there will most likely be major lag. 150-200 ping is kind of pushing it in games like CSS and HL.

In WoW, 200 ms latency is usually the maximum playable level. Unless you can get a fiberoptic uplink directly to Paris, I don't think you can get below 200 ms. Africa's internet is basically shit.

Of course, you will be able to play, but definitely not PvP. PvE is possible, probably, though not as a healer.
