It was an emotional episode, but I was also dissapointed with the obvious lack of direction the writers had, even when they'd established the cap on the number of seasons.
Why did Ben kill Locke, for example?? It's a pretty central question which I'd expected would be cleared up this season, but not at all. Bearing in mind Ben saved Locke a few moments prior. You really can't write that and have no explanation for it.
I was disappointed with what they did with the alternate universe as well. They'd clearly implied that it was a result of the bomb somehow. When Locke said he'd sink the island that looked like they might be edging towards some kind of clever series of events which led to it being on the bottom of the ocean in the alternate universe, but that too turned out to be a red herring with no effort made at explanation. And why did Juliet say 'it worked' when actually she meant 'I died and your plan didn't work at all'?
And I suspended my disbelief for this whole 'rules' thing they had to invoke to explain various stuff, but found it pretty ridiculous that they should then utterly disregard that in the last episode when Locke just decided to kill Jack, who was the new Jacob. The whole point of the rules was that you couldn't do that, which was the whole point of season 5 and the Man in Black's 'plan' (and I still have no idea what that was. How exactly did he plan to kill Locke? He couldn't have).
I can understand why they didn't answer questions from back when they didn't have a clear direction (like Walt and things; that was just a problem with the actor growing up), but really, the last couple of seasons at least should have been coherent. They weren't even coherent between single seasons.
