What started off as a Half-Life mod turned into a full fledged game.
Natural Selection is game about Aliens vs. Marines, with a twist. Many of you may be aware that Natural Selection has to do with Charles Darwin. This game relies on out-teching your opponents and taking control on key areas inside claustrophobic areas set in the future.
Natural Selection 2 was built using a custom engine. So everything was built from the ground up, instead of buying an engine by a bigger named company.
On October 30, UWE posted the first in-game screenshots. I believe they said they aren't totally "in-game" as they were set up using their Cinematic Editor, which is used to make things like Machinima and the sort.
The teaser trailer which was made using the Cinematic Editor.
A couple things I would like to point out is if you turn your volume up really loud, you can hear an alien saying "The enemy approaches" at 0:19.
The Onos (which is the highest lifeform in the game) is shown in the teaser, along with the Skulk (check the vent when the steam goes off), and the Hive (right behind the Onos).

If you're really interested in this, you can pre-order the Normal Edition, which gives you early access to the Beta and tools, or the Special Edition which gives you early access to the Alpha, Beta, Tools, and a custom Black Armored Marine.
Natural Selection 2 is an FPS/RTS game. It combines First Person Shooting with Top-Down Commander mode for both Marines and Aliens.
Also, if you're REALLY interested in it, UWE will be purchasing (that's right, buying) user made maps when the game is released. A couple people are going to try to get a map out before the full release is out, but I think there will only be one map upon release (I think they are going to push for 2). They did this with the first Natural Selection and it was a success.
I do not own NS2, but I would really like to get my hands on that Special Edition. I want those mapping tools...
