As optimistic as I wish I could be about THIS, I think a little piece of me just died, today.

Yeah, I heard about that yesterday, right after it happened.

As if most superhero movies weren't already shit....

I don't think they're going to change much. People hear this and assume that Disney is going to add all their characters in it or something. At the most, this probably just means Marvel character themes in Disney World or something. Disney owns a lot of TV channels and does nothing to them, I don't really think they plan on ruining it.

Whether or not that is the case, we were(?) approaching an era were superhero movies were beginning to be taken more seriously than they have in the past. Superhero movies have been progressively "growing up" with their audiences, yet walking a line between both the younger and older demographic. Disney is making this move to appeal more to young boys, so I feel that we can look forward to a regression of more mature content to that of teeny-bopper (if not prepubescent) "funfests" that might just alienate those - now mature - fans who have grown up with the characters.

I don't know about you, but that idea scares me.

I hope they don't change anything. I don't see them making any drastic changes, at least, but the main thing I'm worried about is the "pussification" of the subject matter. Knowing the type of stuff Disney endorses, I have to say that I'm more than a bit concerned.

It's weird thinking of Spider-man as a Disney character now. That would be kind of weird if they started putting up Marvel themed attractions at Disneyland, I'm not sure I would like that

The first one was watchable. The second was just as watchable, but had 100x better action (making it better than the first, in my eyes). The third one was crap.

Iron Man was decent.

The first Hulk sucked. The second Hulk was fun to watch. Daredevil sucked. The first X-Men movie was watchable, the second was phenomenal, the third one sucked.

The first Blade is one of my favorite movies of all time. The second was great. The third sucked.

Yes. Daredevil sucked. Yes, Elektra sucked. Yes, Ghost Rider and the Fantastic Four movies sucked. Batman was good. Batman returns was good. Batman Forever and Batman and Robin sucked. Batman Begins was great. The Dark Knight was great.

All of the Superman movies were decent, but I wasn't a big fan on the last one.

Spawn was both shitty and classic, at the same time.

Meh, I'm sure there are some more in there somewhere.

The point is that there are enough decent superhero movies to not completely disregard the genre. Past failures were a result of bad film-making, not intrinsically due to the fact that they were superhero movies.

Really? Like what? You think they will make everything for children or something? That Mickey Mouse runs the company?
Like any company would, they won't alienate their new customers because they are trying to make a profit, and alienated Marvel fans don't buy "kiddy" comics or whatever.
Then again, Mickey Mouse might actually run the company.

regardless of how the story turned out to your liking, all three spider-man movies made it in the top 30 grossing movies of all time. Would you rather it be made in the hands of people who created it? or some people who want to just use the title and keep making crap like spider-man 3? Cause believe me, when a movie keep making money like that, they're going to try to flood the market with it...so they might as well get it right.

You know why the first Hulk sucked? cause marvel didn't have the movie rights to make it. You know why Spiderman 3 sucked? Cause Sony has the rights to make it. You know why Deadpool has no mouth, claws, lazer eyes, the ability to teleport at will, and Katana blades coming out of him in the wolverine movie? Take a guess. They can do whatever the hell with the characters plot ect ect, when they take over the rights. At least it was only the movie rights...but now they have the whole shabam.

Disney has made living off of retelling stories, and now they have even more stories to tell. *sigh*

Seriously, guys, what's the difference between Disney and pre-merger Marvel aside from sheer girth? I've had friends at Marvel for years, and it's just another corporate media hellhole looking to nail the tween-to-teen demographic (and prior to the recent spate of movies, mostly failing). I won't insult the talent, but Marvel is begging their writers for mediocrity and that's what they're getting.
