My thoughts on District 9/G.I. Joe/Ponyo

I saw 3 movies in-theater today. I paid for one so I thought, "Heck, why not see three instead?" District 9- District nine gets a passable grade, but it wasn't as good as I was hoping. Of course, it's hard to live up to a movie with such a aura of mysteriousness from the marketing campaign. The sound was good, the effects were good, but the dialogue was shit. They main character is annoying as whiny and drops an f-bomb almost every sentence. In fact, it felt like every character dropped f-bombs all the fucking time. It's fucking ridiculous how many fucking times they use the word fuck in this fucking movie. Spoiler for Summary of District 9: Guy goes around working for the human alien-control forces. Guy gets sprayed in face with black goop. Guy begins turning into alien. It turns out that the human forces are really only interested in figuring out how to use alien weaponry. Since the guy is turning into an alien, he can use the weaponry. So they imprison him and begin performing experiments. He escapes and runs around District 9. "Hey alien, fucking help me!Those fucking dicks with the guns are trying to fucking get me!" "Grararghrhhghrah" says the alien. "Alright, let's fucking do this fucking shit" Later, at the MNU world headquarters *BOOM* "Let's fucking go, Mr. Alien! We have to get that fucking shit that I got sprayed with so you can change me back and you can get the fuck out of here!" The retrieve the fucking shit and then run from the military etc. The rest of it is pretty standard. The alien protagonist eventually flies away in the spaceship and the human protagonist "is never seen again." G.I. Joe- It sucked. It was a load of dumbed-down bullshit that does not respect the intelligence of anybody. The entire movie is constant tits and explosions. Every woman in this movie is degraded into a pristine sex-object. The ones you are able to get a good look at all have huge tits, round ass, and absolutely no personality whatsoever. The Science in this movie is completely ludicrous. Ice sinks. Enough said. And the expansion of time aspect was laughably noticeable. The comic relief was funny only because it was so stupid. The entire movie is made up of stolen ideas from other movies. Sometimes you can actually spot out what scenes are stolen from where. The movie is all gloss and no brains, plot, or character development that isn't laughable at best. Hell, even the gloss isn't that great. Sometimes whether or not something is CG is blatantly obvious even to the untrained eye. The best scene of this movie is probably when the two kids fight each other. I was in the back of the theater laughing my ass off at these two kids so seriously beating the shit out of one another just like grownups! I actually watched a review of the movie before I saw the movie. I initially thought to myself, "Well everyone has their own opinion. I think it will be bad, but not as bad as they say." It was. -Ponyo This movie was the best of the three. I enjoyed District 9 more, but considering that Ponyo was aimed at kids with kid themes, I think it was an overall better film. If I were oh say... 6-7 years younger or if I were a chick, I might have enjoyed it more. I long for the day a The Matrix equivalent is released.

My dad wants to go see G.I. Joe. I don't really want it to be a disspaintment for us However, if we can hold out long enough, I'll try to convince him to go see Gamer instead.

I'm a Girl Scout, and I'm technically not suppose to endorse this or anything, but dude... I paid for one so I thought, "Heck, why not see three instead?" +2 Now to actually contribute something. I'm hopefully going to see Ponyo this weekend. I'm surprised to hear there's that much cursing in District 9. Isn't it rated PG-13? And I already knew G.I. Joe would suck. I'm not a G.I. Joe fan anyway.

I didn't really care for G.I. Joe either. Mostly because the lack of any story made all the action boring to me. I've always thought action with no suspense is pretty boring. It was basically just one continuous fight over a suitcase. Real exciting.

I thought G.I. Joe was pretty good in the same way I thought Shoot Em Up was pretty good. I walked in knowing I wasn't going to take it serious at all, because I knew it would be ridiculous, and it was. I enjoyed it, because I could just embrace the ridiculousness of all the ass, tits and constant explosions. I don't think I've ever seen so many explosions in a movie, like literally everything explodes. Even the ice. I knew it would be dumb, but that's why I enjoyed it. I hope to see District 9 sometime next week, it at least looks interesting....

Yes SE, it's rated R and they drop the f-bomb probably at least 60-70 times...hell probably more. It's like scarface in there. Getting past that, I thought overall it was a very good movie.

But since the plot was so bad and stolen from a million different places, it's not something I'm going to remember. I can barely even recall what happened right now. In fact, there were parts of the movie I was just spacing out on, looking around the theater at people. Haha, I agree. I fell asleep three times watching it in the explosion-lacking scenes.

I lost like ten fifteen minutes of the movie because of zoning out as well. That was during some of the underwater action stuff towards the end, while they were trying to escape. I never zone out like that during movies. I'm going to see "District 9" tomorrow. I hope it's cool. I have no idea what it's supposed to be about. All I know is that there is some freaky looking futuristic stuff going on.
