      The Incredibles (review)

I was quite surprised by this movie. I went in not knowing anything about it, save for the fact that it was animated (my friend had really wanted to see it so there we were). Anyway, after the first few minutes of the movie (up to 5 or 10 or so) I wanted to turn towards my friend and pop him one right in the eye (he had just previously picked the movie Birth because Nicole Kidman was in it [see review in subsequent post] so he wasn't rating to high in my book at the time) when suddenly the movie started getting better! From then on it seemed to get better and better, and was actually rather clever and quite a bit of fun to watch. There was also an emotional element at times intertwined with the plot, thus instilling more of a vested interest in the outcome instead of causing us to nod off in the theatre. I seem to recall it was rather long as well, but again it's pretty fast paced and not noticeably so. Anyway, I'd recommend this one for any age group because it's written in such a way that it can appeal to anyone.

This movie also surprised me, and was actually pretty good. Some parts seemed to stray away from the cliche' Disney (ie, characters died, and there were some sexual refrences). It was actually pretty down-to-earth in way, and it seemed like something that parents wouldn't fall asleep watching (trust me, I've seen this plenty of times). Overall, very clever and nice movie.

saw it with the ex-girlfriend last friday... i think it was a great movie. funny, interesting, a little disturbing at the end with the baby... but good.

also did anyone else see all the penis and testicle shaped stuff? weird.

you know how he pries apart the magma curtains with a giant statue... and all the little white sperm things on tracks... and the giant volcano...
