Transformers: Dark of the Moon - This may come as a surprise to some, but I'm glad they removed Megan Fox from the casts; don't really like her.
Tree of Life
AWESOME movie. There's not much I can say about it to explain the plot, it's really abstract. Basically though, it's about these young kids growing up in the 50s, and the relationship between the brothers and their parents. I should warn you though, that it's very much an arthouse film. There were about 15 walk-outs within the first 20 minutes! I guess it wasn't what they were expecting :P
There were a few scenes in particular where it travels through the universe, examining different planets and such (goes on for about 15 minutes straight) while playing opera music, if that's any indication.
The last movie i actually stayed up all night to watch was Adventureland, low pay high times. And i really liked it. I could relate to it the whole time trough. i was really suprised to see ryan reynolds pop up in that movie. :P but no way i could relate much to his role in the movie. but i loved the theme. and it's very close to reality. A+
Hall Pass 2011 , good story , it was ok ;D 7/10
Just friends 2005. litle sucky but also funny and was nice litle story so 6/10
Monster Maker, Jim Henson, 1989. It was a little corny, but the creature effects are still great.
Keeping the Faith; hilarious rom-com with Ben Stiller and... Wait for it... Edward Norton. DUH.
I thought it was slightly predictable towards the end, but I thoroughly enjoyed it! 8.5/10.
Tron Legacy. Put off watching it for a while. Probably because I wasn't in the mood for it.
But it was fucking awesome. Olivia Wilde was beautiful as always, if not better than usual, if that's possible, and she was perfect for the role.
Jeff Bridges was hilarious. The main character was kind of average. But it didn't matter.
Great story and execution. 9/10.
Last movie I saw was last night, I saw The Karate Kid remake with Jaden Smith, I hate to say it but it was pretty decent. Since it had Jackie Chan in it.
Weirdsville 200X
it loookedquite nice.. so ill give 4.20/10 for a ganja movie.
I am debating queuing up a few movies on NetFlix or going see Cowboys and Aliens. If I do Netflix, I'll watch a two movies tonight, but I don't mind going to the movies tomorrow when it is cheap. Suggestions?
Just saw Captain America a couple of weeks ago. Movie's fine but could've been much better.
I liked it too. I went in expecting not much but it was really entertaining, and yeah, there was so much more they could have done. Hugo Weaving was amazing though.
Watched the King's Speech. Film's very good... compelling acting from the two leads, and the visual direction is absolutely beautiful.
Don't Be Afraid of the Dark
God damn you, Guillermo del Toro. I saw this movie because GDT is doing In the Mountain of Madness, and he is a huge Lovecraft fan, so I wanted to see how well he was progressing.
In a horror movie, you have to suspend your disbelief. So, the 8- or 9-year-old girl who isn't afraid of the dark at first and gladly goes into a dark basement alone is just acceptable. Where the movie loses its leeway is when the main plot device--that is the monsters are hurt by bright light--is indiscriminately ignored. One scene has the monsters freaking out when the lamp is on, but towards the end, they are able to keep going when a giant flashlight is shined on them. On top of that, numerous times they walk where light is shining in from the windows without even flinching. If you establish a rule, you MUST stick with it as faithfully as possible.
Then, these monsters are supposed to be ancient--even called older than man--but when they are attempting to kill the father of the girl, they start a car in a garage. The last time they were set free was when candles were used, and it is implied at being decades before this movie takes place; these monsters wouldn't understand what carbon monoxide is.
Getting pass the logic errors, the movie is just a typical American horror: you see the monsters within about 30 minutes of airtime, and then, you see them often after that, which kills any mystery to them since they look like rats. Also, there are no suspense build-ups outside of one or two, and those build fast and burst before they have time to do anything to the audience. Most of the scares in the movie are pop-out scares and obvious ones at that. The characters are just shallow beings for the monsters to exert their horror on, with the father being totally disbelieving, the step mom accepting everything instantly, and the girl being fearless at times when she shouldn't be.
I'll give this movie a pass for GDT since it may have been a throwback to old school bad horror movies, but this movie is just a waste of money and time.
1/5
Inception - The best movie ever. Showed me the dreamworld. And the soundtracks... Wow!!! :)
Oh, well, I just saw Cars 2 today. It was actually a good movie, very cute.
I'm maybe going to see Shutter Island later, I think it's a good movie. Leonardo Dicaprio is very talented.
Fast & Furious Five
Pretty damn enjoyable. Story just strong enough to keep things going, and some really balls-out action. Probably tied with the first as the best in the series, for me.
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Felt sad by the rape and assault she faced :(
Shocking...
21 grams.. very coool movie liked it and story cool.
8/10
Last night I watched 'Don't Be Afraid of the Dark'. I think I went into this with my hopes set way to high. It was an interesting movie but not exciting or even scary in the least, though the girls behind me were continually gasping in fear and oh my God-ing. I'd give it a 4/10.
Rise of the planet of the apes, and it was pretty good, although I really felt that it had some kind of deep hidden meaning underneath which I did not quite understand.
Are you familiar with the original PoTA? There was a pretty blatant message there, with the whole apes thing being used as a racial metaphor. It was a role reversal.
It was a way to examine race relations. Basically the tables were turned... humans (whites) were now caged and collared and treated as sub-primates by the apes. Extremely clever premise if you ask me.
I don't know if the new movie used the same premise or not though.
I think the last movie I saw clear through was Insidious. It was okay, kind of Poltergeist remade with a splash of Ghostbusters :cheeky:
