Post songs in this thread that you feel contain a message, universal truth, etc., something that you feel the world needs to wake up and listen to.
If you don't fully get what I mean by that, I'll post two examples so that you can both see what I mean and see the format that I want you to post songs in (song name+author, video if available for embedding, spoiler tagged lyrics).

"Changes" by Tupac Shakur (RIP, man)
Spoiler for "Changes" lyrics:
Come on come on
I see no changes wake up in the morning and I ask myself
is life worth living should I blast myself?
I’m tired of bein’ poor & even worse I’m black
my stomach hurts so I’m lookin’ for a purse to snatch
Cops give a damn about a negro
pull the trigger kill a nigga he’s a hero
Give the crack to the kids who the hell cares
one less hungry mouth on the welfare
First ship ‘em dope & let ‘em deal the brothers
give ‘em guns step back watch ‘em kill each other
It’s time to fight back that’s what Huey said
2 shots in the dark now Huey’s dead
I got love for my brother but we can never go nowhere
unless we share with each other
We gotta start makin’ changes
learn to see me as a brother instead of 2 distant strangers
and that’s how it’s supposed to be
How can the Devil take a brother if he’s close to me?
I’d love to go back to when we played as kids
but things changed, and that’s the way it is
[Bridge w/ changing ad libs]
Come on come on
That’s just the way it is
Things’ll never be the same
That’s just the way it is
aww yeah
[Repeat]
[2]
I see no changes all I see is racist faces
misplaced hate makes disgrace to races
We under I wonder what it takes to make this
one better place, let’s erase the wasted
Take the evil out the people they’ll be acting right
’cause both black and white is smokin’ crack tonight
and only time we chill is when we kill each other
it takes skill to be real, time to heal each other
And although it seems heaven sent
We ain’t ready, to see a black President, uhh
It ain’t a secret don’t conceal the fact
the penitentiary’s packed, and it’s filled with blacks
But some things will never change
try to show another way but you stayin’ in the dope game
Now tell me what’s a mother to do
bein’ real don’t appeal to the brother in you
You gotta operate the easy way
“I made a G today” But you made it in a sleazy way,
sellin’ crack to the kid. "I gotta get paid,”
Well hey, well that’s the way it is
[Bridge]
[Talking:]
We gotta make a change…
It’s time for us as a people to start makin’ some changes.
Let’s change the way we eat, let’s change the way we live
and let’s change the way we treat each other.
You see the old way wasn’t working so it’s on us to do
what we gotta do, to survive.
[3]
And still I see no changes can’t a brother get a little peace
It’s war on the streets & the war in the Middle East
Instead of war on poverty they got a war on drugs
so the police can bother me
And I ain’t never did a crime I ain’t have to do
But now I’m back with the facts givin’ it back to you
Don’t let ‘em jack you up, back you up,
crack you up and pimp smack you up
You gotta learn to hold ya own
they get jealous when they see ya with ya mobile phone
But tell the cops they can’t touch this
I don’t trust this when they try to rush I bust this
That’s the sound of my tool you say it ain’t cool
my mama didn’t raise no fool
And as long as I stay black I gotta stay strapped
& I never get to lay back
‘Cause I always got to worry ’bout the pay backs
some punk that I roughed up way back
comin’ back after all these years
rat-tat-tat-tat-tat that’s the way it is uhh
[Bridge 'til fade]
Funny The Way It Is" by Dave Matthews Band
Spoiler for "Funny The Way It Is" Lyrics:
Lying in the park on a beautiful day,
sunshine in the grass, and the children play.
Siren’s passing, fire engine red,
someone’s house is burning down on a day like this?
The evening comes and we’re hanging out,
On the front step, and a car rolls by with the windows rolled down,
And that war song is playing, “Why can’t we be friends?”
Someone is screaming and crying in the apartment upstairs
Funny the way it is, if you think about it
Somebody’s going hungry and someone else is eating out
Funny the way it is, not right or wrong
Somebody’s heart is broken and it becomes your favorite song
The way your mouth feels in your lovers kiss
Like a pretty bird on a breeze or water to a fish
A bomb blast brings a building crashing to the floor
You can hear the laughter, while the children play “war”
Funny the way it is, if you think about it,
one kid walks 10 miles to school, another’s dropping out
Funny the way it is, not right or wrong,
on a soldier’s last breath his baby’s being born
Standing on a bridge, watch the water passing under me
It must’ve been much harder when there was no bridge, just water
Now the world is small. Remember how it used to be,
with mountains and oceans and winters and rivers and stars?
Watch the sky, the jet planes, so far out of my reach
Is there someone up there looking down on me?
Boy chase a bird, so close but every time
He’ll never catch her, but he can’t stop trying
Funny the way it is, if you think about it
one kid walks 10 miles to school, another’s dropping out
Funny the way it is, not right or wrong
on a soldier’s last breath his baby’s being born
Funny the way it is, nor right or wrong
Somebody’s broken heart becomes your favorite song
Funny the way it is, if you think about it
A kid walks 10 miles to school, another’s dropping out.
Standing on a bridge, watch the water passing under me
It must’ve been much harder when there was no bridge, just water
Now the world is small. Remember how it used to be,
with mountains and oceans and winters and rivers and stars?
Feel free to post songs that you feel capture what I'm trying to get at here, and please enjoy all that is posted.
All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very
Mad World
Mad world
Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
And I feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very
Mad World
Mad World
Enlarging your world
Mad World.
Off the top of my head :3

Grits
Livin lavish like the biltmore
What the blood spilt for
A ship in harbor is safe
But that ain't what it's built for
Do all I can to help you get more
If you forgive my slight intrusion
I see this night is confusin
A constant fight with illusions
Shed a light on conclusions
What you desire is a way out
Day in and day out
Do not disturb signs so I’ll stay out
How long will you let the torture grasp you
I see spirits manifestin
Blockin blessings with the questions
That you hear me ask you
Keep it up so much will pass you
You can make it on a prayer
Yeah that’s true
But barely getting by when you can do more
Why would you want to
Forgettin that the wood’s dry and the fire's on you
Life's a hassle
Be prepared to rassle
It can be rough
But it don’t have to
You can make it full of smiles
Something to laugh to
So pick and chose my message thick
So squeeze and watch it ooze
Make it a game to where your fears lose
Let's go

Grits
There's a way that seems right
In the heart of a man
And many angels of light
In disguise destroying man
So most chose to refuse
The absolute truth
Replace it with lies
Use ignorance as excuse
It’s hard to conceive
What the mind can’t comprehend
And harder to believe
What the eyes can't understand
We look to theory, philosophies and thought
For a sure foundation
In a belief we once sought
While the shadow of truth
Cast an image so clear
The closer it gets
We reject it out of fear
If we really wanted truth
We would give our lives for it
Walk in its direction of light
For God's glory
The saga continues
Cause most hearts are deceived
If we really wanted truth
We would live and believe
So the saga continues
Cause most hearts are deceived
If we really wanted truth
We would live and believe in it

Lyin' in my plastic bed
thinkin' how things weren't so cool to me
my baby likes to shoot pool
I like lyin' naked in my bedroom
tying off that dinousaur tonight
it used to be so cool to...
But now i've got the needle
and i can shake but i can't breathe
i take it away
but i want more, and more
one day i'm gonna lose the war
Lyin' in my plastic bed

Spoiler for Lyrics:
Verse 1
We've all seen the man at the liquor store beggin' for your change
The hair on his face is dirty, dread-locked, and full of mange
He asks a man for what he could spare, with shame in his eyes
"Get a job you fucking slob," is all he replies
God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in his shoes
'Cause then you really might know what it's like to sing the blues
Chorus
Then you really might know what it's like
Then you really might know what it's like
Yeah then you really might know what's it like
To have the blues
Verse 2
Mary got pregnant from a kid named Tom that said he was in love
He said, "Don't worry about a thing, baby doll
I'm the man you've been dreaming of."
But 3 months later he say he won't date her or return her calls
And she swear, "God damn, if I find that man I'm cuttin' off his balls."
And then she heads for the clinic and
she gets some static walking through the door
They call her a killer, and they call her a sinner
and they call her a whore
God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in her shoes
'Cause then you really might know what it's like to have to choose
Chorus
Then you really might know what it's like
Then you really might know what it's like
Yeah then you really might know what's it like
To have the blues
Bridge
I've seen a rich man beg
I've seen a good man sin
I've seen a tough man cry
I've seen a loser win
And a sad man grin
I heard an honest man lie
I've seen the good side of bad
And the downside of up
And everything between
I licked the silver spoon
Drank from the golden cup
And smoked the finest green
I stroked the fattest dimes at least a couple of times
before I broke their heart
You know where it ends, yo, it usually depends on where you start
Verse 3
I knew this kid named Max
who used to get fat stacks out on the corner with drugs
He liked to hang out late
he liked to get shit-faced and keep the pace with thugs
Until late one night there was a big old fight and Max lost his head
He pulled out his chrome .45, talked some shit, and wound up dead
Now his wife and his kids are caught in the midst of all of this pain
You know it comes that way
at least that's what they say when you play the game
God forbid you ever had to wake up to hear the news
'Cause then you really might know what it's like to have to lose
Chorus
Then you really might know what it's like
Then you really might know what it's like
Yeah then you really might know what's it like
To have the blues
Spoiler for lyrics:
Waitin', watchin' the clock
It's four o'clock, it's got to stop
Tell him, take no more
She practices her speech, as he opens the door
She rolls over
Pretends to sleep as he looks her over
1-She lies and says she's in love with him
Can't find a better man
She dreams in color, she dreams in red
Can't find a better man, can't find a better man
Ohh
Talkin', to herself there's no one else
Who needs to know
She, tells herself, oh...
Memories back when she was bold and strong
And waiting for the world to, come along
Swears she knew it, now she swears he's gone
(rpt 1)
She lies and says she still loves him
Can't find a better man...
She dreams in color, she dreams in red
Can't find a better man
Can't find a better man
She loved him, yeah...
She don't want to leave this way
She feeds him, yeah
That's why she'll be back again
Stairway to Heaven, the song about a girl taking LSD for her first time! Such a message! Such truth!
Actually I think it's a tad deeper than that That, or there's a whole lot of different oppinions on the meaning behind it. Whenever I hear people analyze it it's always different, and I never think there was any official statements on the actual meaning.
There's also people who sees it like this:
Drugs - Not at all. This song is about extreme materialism of the mega wealthy. The mythical woman in the song is fabulously wealthy and the world caters to her. Thus, she believes that God will respect her status and she is certain to simply pay the price of admission.
It is satirical and meant as a slap in the face of the ultra rich.
This song is about a woman who accumulates money, but finds out the hard way her life had no meaning and will not get her into heaven.
<- A tad like the above
"goodness" and just paying the price of admission into heaven ... and then buying the stairway so only THEY can allow only certain others to have access ...
... it is an insulting statement aimed at the vast majority of the super rich and shows that even the poorest person can "afford" the price of heaven, while those with too much "bought and paid for" arrogance can not make the needed payment to gain access to heaven ...
etc etc
I'm not religious, but the above meanings would also include that money isn't everything. Or something like that.
But again, as far as I know, there was never an official word of the meaning.

Obviously it's going to be interpretted on multiple levels - that's what music is. That's what poetry is. I wasn't overly serious when I said that, either, but I could pick out the drug references just as easily as those analysts can pick out money=nothing references.
The main reason why I said what I said is because, well, Stairway to Heaven is just so... cliché. Don't get me wrong, I love the song, but in the world of rock and roll music it's just another ruined by mass popularity.

I know what you mean by cliché ^^ Still love the song though! Like you. The song doesn't deserve to be so popular! Weird statement... but might hold a bit of truth to it

You must mean lyrics-wise, because music-wise, its compositional value is far greater than most anything you'll hear in today's music, and thus will it be forever. Unless of course some kick-ass new band comes along with awesome compositional skills. But seriously, the various punk rock bands out there are far more cliché, IMO - both musically and lyrically. The same damn power chord progressions, the same damn "fuck you, authority!" bullshit lyrics.

Good morning, son.
I am a bird
Wearing a brown polyester shirt
You want a coke?
Maybe some fries?
The roast beef combo's only $9.95
It's okay, you don't have to pay
I've got all the change
Everybody knows
It hurts to grow up
And everybody does
It's so weird to be back here
Let me tell you what
The years go on and
We're still fighting it, we're still fighting it
And you're so much like me
I'm sorry
Good morning, son
In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
It was pain
Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things
Everybody knows
It sucks to grow up
And everybody does
It's so weird to be back here.
Let me tell you what
The years go on and
We're still fighting it, we're still fighting it
You'll try and try and one day you'll fly
Away from me
Good morning, son
I am a bird
It was pain
Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things
Everybody knows
It hurts to grow up
And everybody does
It's so weird to be back here.
Let me tell you what
The years go on and
We're still fighting it, we're still fighting it
Oh, we're still fighting it, we're still fighting it
And you're so much like me
I'm sorry

Spoiler for America A horse with no name:
On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
The heat was hot and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound
Ive been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
cause there aint no one for to give you no pain
La, la ...
After two days in the desert sun
My skin began to turn red
After three days in the desert fun
I was looking at a river bed
And the story it told of a river that flowed
Made me sad to think it was dead
You see Ive been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
cause there aint no one for to give you no pain
La, la ...
After nine days I let the horse run free
cause the desert had turned to sea
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The ocean is a desert with its life underground
And a perfect disguise above
Under the cities lies a heart made of ground
But the humans will give no love
You see Ive been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
cause there aint no one for to give you no pain
La, la ...
Sarcastic honesty, love it ~
Spoiler for PostalService Sleeping In:
Last week i had the strangest dream
Where everything was exactly how it seemed
Where there never any mystery on who shot john f kennedy
It was just a man with something to prove
Slightly bored and severely confused
He steadied his rifle with his target in the center
And became famous on that day in november
Dont wake me i plan on sleeping
Dont wake me i plan on sleeping in
Dont wake me i plan on sleeping
Dont wake me i plan on sleeping in
And then last night i had that strange dream
Where everything was exactly how it seemed
Where concerns about the world getting warmer
The people thought they were just being rewarded
For treating others as they like to be treated
For obeying stop signs and curing diseases
For mailing letters with the address of the sender
Now we can swim any day in november
Dont wake me i plan on sleeping
(now we can swim any day in november)
Dont wake me i plan on sleeping in
Dont wake me i plan on sleeping
Dont wake me i plan on sleeping in
Dont wake me i plan on sleeping in

I'm Gonna Make A Change,
For Once In My Life
It's Gonna Feel Real Good,
Gonna Make A Difference
Gonna Make It Right . . .
As I, Turn Up The Collar On My
Favourite Winter Coat
This Wind Is Blowin' My Mind
I See The Kids In The Street,
With Not Enough To Eat
Who Am I, To Be Blind?
Pretending Not To See
Their Needs
A Summer's Disregard,
A Broken Bottle Top
And A One Man's Soul
They Follow Each Other On
The Wind Ya' Know
'Cause They Got Nowhere
To Go
That's Why I Want You To
Know
I'm Starting With The Man In
The Mirror
I'm Asking Him To Change
His Ways

I've Been A Victim Of A Selfish
Kind Of Love
It's Time That I Realize
That There Are Some With No
Home, Not A Nickel To Loan
Could It Be Really Me,
Pretending That They're Not

A Willow Deeply Scarred,
Somebody's Broken Heart
And A Washed-Out Dream

Well said ^^ Although by cliché I THINK he meant something along the lines of the song being so popular, being heard so many times etc etc. not sure though.
This is basically what I meant. It's the go-to song for every beginner guitarist, it's the one song EVERYBODY associates with Led Zeppelin.
I also think associating cliche with repetitive chord progressions for punk music is inaccurate, too... I'd say it's more-or-less the lack of advanced skill in the genre (punk music is more for the 'message,' and atmosphere, anyways).
