BF2142 is pretty good. Sins of a Solar Empire is also pretty entertaining...for awhile.

Dude, if you've got any older friends, just get them to buy it for you. I had a couple of buddies awhile back who did just that with this older kid we used to hang out with.
Surrender your flesh. We demand it.

If you like RTS you can get the old Starcraft. Try to convince your parents to get you Half-Life. It kicks ass. Guild Wars is good if you like the whole mmorpg thing (it's free too).

I don't know why people talk about legally buying M games with parental consent... I bought Halo: CE when I first got an XBox, which was about 2002, I was 13.
I've never had a hard time buying an M rated game, ever.

Goldney, Grod, AmazeO: I'm under 17 dammit. Or else I would just buy M games myself.

And my dad is one of those anti-video game concerned parent types who thinks that playing GTA will make you go rob a convenience store.

      I've tried convincing him

And yes I borrowed Crysis from my friend and it did indeed lag like hell.

(Btw, I could just borrow M games from friends, but then I would have to keep loaning it in order to keep playing it, and if it was anything worth playing they would probably want it back within a few months)

(And having friends buy for me is a good idea, until my dad catches me playing an M game, notices that it's pretty gory/violent/whatever, and asks me what the rating is/asks to see the box it came in. Then I'm dead, because I'm not just borrowing it, I actually paid a friend to buy it for me which equals big grounding and shit prolly)

In other news, I got Command and Conquer 3: Deluxe Edition. It's pretty fun.

Don't listen to the BAD advice of people trying to tell you to "grab a pair" or otherwise deceive your parents.
I am somewhat strict with what I allow. I go through periods of leniency, but for the most part, I stick to my guns: NO games, movies, books or show that FEATURE magic, gore, unneeded cursing, or anything glorifying violence or crime.
If my kids borrow such from someone, I make them return it the next day. If they have the nerve to disrespect the rules of MY house, I break it and throw it away.

As long as they live with me, they have to respect the rules of the house. They may not agree and we can discuss it, but the final say is mine.

One game all of us like is "Oblivion". It has killing (no guns though), is very long and doesn't get boring, you don't have to use magic. Runescape is also nice. I've not played it for awhile (on-line) but my son has and he said they've improved it a great deal and he loves playing it (but likes it more when he has membership).

Just show them clips of the games you want. Say something like the game was just rated M for language. Works for me except my parents don't really care about violent M games, as long as it isn't too "sexual" .

I wouldn't encourage someone to deceive their parents. That wouldn't solve the dispute and would more than likely escalate it.

But why?! That's practically the whole gaming market?!

      (excluding Nintendo)

Also there's a reason why games 'glorify' violence: because it's fun. It's so stress-relieving to shoot a fictional Nazi or two. Just because I occasionally relax on a weekend afternoon by running over a few pedestrians in GTA 4 or by playing some Call of Duty online with friends doesn't mean I'm a sadist/murderer in real life. Nor would I say it's affected me adversely at all in any way.

This is so confusing. First you say that you don't allow games which:

      A. Feature magic.
      B. Feature gore.
      C. Unneeded cursing.
      D. Anything glorifying violence or crime.

Then say you like Oblivion which:

      A. Features magic pretty heavily.
      B. Features weapons such as swords and arrows etc. I don't know how gory it is entirely, but I know you can also kill human opponents.
      C. Has characters that swear (...I think, it's a while since I played it).
      D. Allows you to steal from houses as well as murder civilians.

PS: Wakata, I would recommend any of the Katamari games. They're a hoot to play. Furthermore, I'd recommend Shadow of the Colossus as well as Spiderman 2 (both for the PS2 if you have one). Beyond Good and Evil is also good, as well as the Prince of Persia trilogy. I don't know the rating on Half-Life 2, but that's fun. If you like racing games, I hear Grid is good. Uhhh... skate. can be pretty fun. I don't think all of these are on PC but it's worth checking them out if you can.
