I'm reading 'Narciss and Goldmund' by Herman Hesse, it's my second time through. I'm probably going to read 'Beneath the Wheel' by Herman Hesse when I'm done this one. |

Currently, I'm finishing the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan (and now Brandon Sanderson). I'm also hopefully going to be starting Geraldine Brooks' People of the Book, Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged (that should be interesting...if long), The Whisperers (and I forget the author, but it's about Russians living through the Soviet Regime), Heresy by S.J. Parris, and I'm trying to make my way through a book of Robert Frost's poems... and these are just the ones that I have sitting by my bed right now... The moral of the story is that I need to stay away from bookstores. |
|
If you take Atlas Shrugged seriously, I'm sure there will be a drug for it soon. |

If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama
Inheritance Trilogy and Harry Potter should not be compared... ever. And I don't consider the Inheritance trilogy literature at all, since its only apt to stick around for so long (and judging by the quality of the books, not very long), and its aimed only at a YA audience, I see no harm from it. |

I don't necessarily agree with Ayn Rand and her philosophies. Rand is a very black/white sort of person (an extremist), whereas I believe that the world operates on more of a continuum. I believe in shades of grey. I avoid extreme practices such the pure laissez faire capitalism Rand promotes. I've been attracted to Rand's work simply because it presents alternative philosophies and it's a noted piece of literature. Really though, it comes down to the fact that I'm just reading a piece of "political/philosophical fiction". I don't have to take it seriously even though I'm reading it. |

Finally got around to reading Look at the Birdie by Kurt Vonnegut. I don't think there was one short story in there that I didn't completely enjoy. |

An Introduction to Jung's Psychology by Frieda Fordham. Tiny, old, dilapitated book found in the deep, dark depths of my university library, and it's one of the most profound books I have ever read. I find myself time and again going back and re-reading paragraphs because I am so amazed by what I have just read. I highly recommend it for anyone with a passing interest in psychology. |

I need my sleep. I need about eight hours a day, and about ten at night.
157 is a prime number. The next prime is 163 and the previous prime is 151, which with 157 form a sexy prime triplet. Taking the arithmetic mean of those primes yields 157, thus it is a balanced prime.

Currently reading The Mystique of Enlightenment by (or rather, interviews with) U.G. Krishnamurti. A friend has been bringing it up in conversation for years, and loaned it to me last week. So far, the guy seems like a bit of a nut, and quite possibly an undiagnosed stroke victim. My impression is that he's not exactly a charlatan, but a survivor personality type with an unmoored sense of reality. I plan to finish the book, but I'm not seeing much of value so far. |
