A Handmaid's Tale by Margret Atwood. Not really into the writing style so much, but I'm only 30 pages in so hopefully it improves.

update...Ive finished the farseer trilogy by robin hobb...and all I can say is...wow. Ive immediately picked up the second trilogy she made about the same characters, the tawny man trilogy, and have almost finished the second book already Golden Fool. Hobb is an excellent story teller and the plot is superb.

Escape from Evil by Ernest Becker. It's about the root of inequality in human society and the subsequent rise of greater evil.

"We are here at one of the ultimate crossroads in social theory . . . If the cause of the trouble were force, to "expropriate the expropriators" would be enough. But if force did not establish the domination of the master, then perhaps the slave is somehow in love with his own chains . . . a deeper psychological malady..."

"The first person who, having fenced off a plot of ground, took it into his head to say this is mine and found people simple enough to believe him, was the true founder of civil society."

"If the emergence of social privilege marks the Fall of Man, the Fall took place not in the transition from "primitive communism" to "private property" but in the transition from ape to man."

      Awesome!

I'd actually read that one right before I posted that; it's what made me want to re-read the older books. Right now I am, sadly, not reading anything. Too busy with life.

"Draculas" by five different horror writers who really hated the concept of the oxymoron "Sexy Vampire", and wrote one of the goriest and most brutal vampire books I've read. Really brilliant.

Also reading "The Touch" and "Fatal Error" both by F. Paul Wilson, a writer of "Draculas," "The New Marriage Rules," and "Lucid Dreaming: Journey to the Inner Self." Finally, got back into reading.

I am STILL reading the first Dune lol
Hubby and I were near the mall today and I tried to talk him into going, but there was a big sports game so traffic was crazy and he wouldn't.
I refuse to finish the book without the next ones in my possession.
Hopefully, we'll get to the Mall tomorrow. I can't keep reading that book forever

Finished The Sun Also Rises by Hemingway on a pleasant (though cold and overlong) train journey. Now reading assorted Hunter S. Thompson newspaper articles.

Also Marlowe's Faust, which is proving kick-ass.

That story was amazing though. I loved how visual his corruption was.

I know what you mean, Cusp. I've been looking for a book on Modern Camouflage Techniques, but I can't find one anywhere.

But here are three more recommendations: "Hearts and Minds: the Afghan experience" by A.K. Fortis-Evan; "Piscatori Romani" by Titus Linus, and "1939: the Annexation of the Sudetenland" by Hans Upp.

.. and that Anti-Gravity book. Apparently, the Publishing Company responsible has just been floated on the Stock Market.

Almost finished reading Small Gods by Terry Pratchett. I've had it for a while, but I keep getting distracted. I blame the internet.

Also reading the graphic novel Death: The High Cost of Living, which is, once again, written by Neil Gaiman. I'm actually trying not to go through it too quickly.

I pick up a half-eaten copy of a book by Neil Gaiman, and decide this is all his fault.
