That's what I'm thinking, CatBus.
It seems the writers are creating some sort of God/Devil scenario. The godhead, Jacob, believes in the inherent goodness of people and wants them to grow and develope (evolve?) while the other guy (arch rival) wanted to keep the island pristine because people would only ruin it. For some reason though, the rival couldn't harm Jacob as his earlier incarnation (the guy on the beach with him in the beginning). But Jacob refers to his finding a "loop hole" to carry out the much desired murder.

I HATE that they killed Locke The actor has really gotten a diverse role, though lol. It looks like he's to be "evil Locke" from here on out.
Hopefully something will be done about him once the others return.
But at least now we know what the tie was that bound them all together (Jacob personally chose them).

Juliet had to be sacrificed so she could detonate the bomb and set things in motion.

I heard someone mention on another forum that they thought the person who was with Jacob was also the black mist monster, the thing that judged Ben. I thought that was silly at first, but after I thought about it, it made a little bit of sense. Ben got judged after Locke's death, and his daughter came and told him to follow Locke and do everything he said. So this faux Locke (same person that wants Jacob dead) tells Ben to kill Jacob, and he can't say no because he was already ordered to follow Locke's instructions.

I was thinking the same thing, that new Locke is made of black smoke.

I noticed Jacob was reading this book when Locke fell out of the building.

I thought that was supposed to be humorous, referring to Locke's rising and then 'convergence' with the ground.

I notice that Miles suggested my idea.

But then nothing really came of it... it doesn't look like they did cause the incedent, the Swan is totally destroyed...

There are so many crazy ideas floating around now...

- Is Locke actually dead? He was a central character to the series, it just doesn't seem possible...

- So... the Swan's been destroyed now. Surely that means that the survivors never crash on the island... so therefore they can never go back to stop the Swan from being built... so it's a temporal paradox. Also... doesn't that mean that everybody who has so far died in the series actually never did?

- So the loophole guy has been controlling everything in order to reach Jacob through Locke..? How does Christian relate to that... Christian was the one who told Locke he'd have to die... then the loophole guy also told Locke the same thing through Richard Alpert in the form of Locke... and the Smoke monster also conspired through Ben... So loophole guy, Christian, and the Smoke monster are all trying to kill Jacob..? Why did Jacob taunt Ben and apparently let himself be killed? Why did Jacob ask the real Locke for help, before Locke died..? Why was the cabin abandoned..?

Ahrgh.

With Christian in the Cabin... or at least they were. Apparently the recent inhabitants of the Cabin have been impostors, and the circle of ash was broken... Christian could well be an impostor. I'm not sure.

Perhaps he appeared to real Locke because it was necessary to convince Jack to return to the island. Then again Jacob was also trying to get people to return.

Maybe impostor Locke and Christian are the same person/thing? Think about it: Christian's body was on the first plane crash and Locke's was on the second. Christian advised Locke to die. This must be the loophole that had to be completed in order for the mysterious entity to get to Jacob.

In the end, Jacob said, "They're coming". Perhaps that was in reference to this war we scarcely heard about.

Also, I have a feeling that Jacob isn't really dead, but still exists in some form.

We have no idea what that bomb detonation means to the future of the hatch and the plane crash.

Although...it just occurs to me that maybe Jacob arranged the detonation to undo the chain of events that lead to his death, thereby trumping his enemy's loophole. Of course, it's hard to know how causality affects Jacob and pal. Are they moving on a calendar timeline, their own timeline, or are they jumping around in time? With or without prescience? Do they transcend time and space altogether, having equal access to all times and places all the time?

Well miles did say that for the survivors of oceanic 815 they are on their own timeline, so 1970's really is their timeline, and if they die in the 70's thats the end of the road.

MY question is how the freak can they even have another season if they all got blown up

Lmfao. I'm watching Scary Movie.

I forgot how hilarious this movie is.

Whatever happened, happened. The bomb was supposed to go off, it probably is what settles down the anomaly long enough for the dharma people to cover it in cement. The explosion will trigger a flash that will send Jack and the others back to 2008. (the explosion gets Juliette right before the flash, since she's right next to the bomb)

This is my prediction. However I have no idea about the dimension of the explosion, I'm assuming it's either not very big, or that the anomaly somehow contains it.



I also believe Jacob's death was planned, and maybe permanent.
