      Board Games

Most of my friends are gamers as it were, and though we do play a lot of console and PC games, it is always so much more satisfying to play a board game.
In list form, some of the ones that I play regularly:

      Scrabble - classic
Heroscape - since we have nearly all the expansions, this can be the most epic game
      Risk - another classic
Settlers of Catan - good game, though there are other games in a similar vein that I prefer
Puerto Rico - number 1 on boardgamegeek.com for good reason
Epic Duels - Star Wars based where you pick characters and have them battle it out based on their deck of cards
Trivial Pursuit - so many versions, and the best trivia game ever
Wit's End - more trivia, though generally more difficult that trivial pursuit

Then we have other classics like Monopoly which can be fun to bust out now and again. And since I am a hardcore geek, I've dabbled in D&D in the past, and will probably be getting into the new 4th edition rules once we all familiarize ourselves with it.

If you're unfamiliar with any of these, you can check them out at Board Game Geek. I would recommend them all.

So what are your favorite board games?

It's been a long time since I've played a board game. Perhaps it's about time I pull one out.

Settlers of Catan - I still need to purchase this one
      Risk
      Life
Backgammon - why don't people play this more?
      Chess

Card games have kind of gone out of style as well:
Hand and Foot (similar to Canasta)
Pinochle (though I'm still a novice; it's taken forever to learn because we don't play very often)
      BS
      Idiot

And Apples to Apples. I find that that game gets really good around 12:30am.

      Risk
      Shogi
      Chess
Nomic (if adapted to board-based play)

Card games are awesome. I play Kaiser a few times a week, and Hearts here and there. Backgammon is fun, but I don't actually remember how to play it.

Another awesome game that is out of print is Samurai Swords. It is similar to risk, but you have several different types of units, as well as army leaders, and fortifications if I remember correctly. My sister's ex boyfriend had it, but unfortunately it was not a happy break-up so I never saw it again. I'll probably have to buy it on ebay at some point.

Hearts and Spades... forgot about those games.

Oh, and "Golf" is a popular quick game among our family.
