      Medieval 2: Total War

I got this recently, and I have to say, a shrine is under construction in my spare room to honor this game. I have the expansion packs too, (I bought the Gold edition) and I have to say, WOW. Epic scope, utterly and unfailingly. I was really into medieval warfare, but never picked up this game. It is SO realistic and engaging, even people wearing plate armor tire out faster under a hot desert sun, and you have to account for that, as well as morale, tiredness, nearby leadership, past victories, wow. I bow down in awe. Me, the medieval maniac, has just found a way to relive history. I thank video games for being able to do this for me and others. (By the way, playing Aztecs was priceless)

To any owners of the game:

      1. What is your favorite nationality?
(Probably Islam for me, but I'm relatively fresh and have not tried out all of them, I'm mainly taking in aesthetics and basic srategic principles)

      2. How much do you like this game?

      3. Do you dare test your steel against me?
(I may be new, but I consistently cream the AI on normal with no advantages, and have had many past strategic games (but no medieval ones) to learn from. I read strategy in my spare time anyway.)

Post your replies! (If any, I just needed to get this out at least )

Ah good to see you too have seen the light

I've had the game for a few months, but i'm not a real hardcore gamer and i got a couple of other games at the same time, so i haven't devoted a whole lot of attention to it. Still, i have finished the long campaign as England, and started short ones with Venice, Denmark, and Russia. Have also previously started long campaigns with Spain, but i really had no idea what i was doing and got so far in debt i had to start over. I like Denmark a lot, but then i have a soft spot for ancient Northern European cultures in the first place. Even though there aren't really any vikings to play with, i still like the faction.

When i play now i really just stick with my English campaign though, and likely will until i control every region i can. Then i'll move on to either Denmark or Venice properly. I control the majority of the map at the moment, but i still have a few Mongol territories to take, and have not yet gone to battle with the Timurids (though we are at war).

For question two, i like the game a lot, though i don't have the expansion yet. As you say, very detailed. I look forward to the next Total War game though. It looks like it's going to be amazing.

I just got this game, and I absolutely love it. I'm still just getting started, so I have hardly any clue what I'm doing yet, but it's so much fun.

It was hard for me to sit down with the manual for more than 3 seconds, I wanted to play so much. The manual is quite a read, but you need to read the campaign part through all the way to enjoy the campaign.

Any ideas for what campaign you want to start? I have the expansion packs (worth every cent and more) and I am thinking of starting either Turks, Egypt, Ireland, Scotland, Teutons... I'm not sure yet... Mongols might be fun though! (I think there was a campaign for them, I don't know)

Right now, I'm doing the English campaign I think. It was the first one on the list, so I figured it'd probably be relatively easy. The learning curve for this game is the biggest turn off about it, but once you get past that, this game is a hell of a lot of fun. I'll probably pick up the expansion packs when I'm through with the main one.

I would most definitely get them if you are enjoying the campaign. You get to campaign with (off the top of my head)

      Crusaders:

      Kingdom of Jerusalem
      Antioch
      Egypt
      Turks

      New World:

      New Spain (Conquistadors)
      New France
      Aztecs
      Mayans
      Chippewa Tribe (American Indians)

      Brittania:

      Scotland
      Ireland
      Wales
      England
      Denmark

      Teutonic:

      Lithuania
      Teuton
      Poland
      Denmark (I think)

Apart from that, there are literally dozens of new non-campaign armies.

They all come in one box (I think, I bought the gold edition, but it was still $40.00)
