      Lol. Exactly.

This is part of the reason why it's a strain for me to try to look at American Idol as a talent competition. In the endgame, it usually comes down to the aesthetics.

      But...such is life.

      ...American life, anyway. Lol.

Damnit, I had a long post typed up, ranting and raving mostly, saying which contestants I liked and all, but my internet crapped out just as I went to post it, and I lost it all.

      Grr.

Anyway, I like the following. Mainly just the first two, though.
      • Michael Johns - an Australian who lives in my home state and can sing the soup outta Bohemian Rhapsody AND We Are the Champions. Hell yeah!
      • Carly Smithson - I'm a sucker for that Irish accent, and I really want her to sing a symphonic metal song.
      • Seyesha - she sung that last audition, positively belted it out, when she could barely speak!
      • Jason Castro - he's pretty good, I think.

The judges I mostly can't stand. I like Simon, but even he hams it up for the audience, exaggerating his criticism. The judges have no purpose past the audition stage except to give the audience at home and n the studio somebody to disagree with, though, anyway. Randy is annoying with his excessive use of 'street slang' like, "Yo, dawg!" and his noncommital critique. "...Ah, I dunno, dawg." Paula is constantly stoned, and cannot form a coherent sentence to save her life because she's so far off in La-La-Land. All her so-called 'critiques' come out as broken thoughts, and she's usually either leaning on Simon's shoulder for support or crying for joy from the effects of whatever drug or combination of drugs she's on. Simon actually makes some sense, and is mostly honest, but like I said, he likes to ham up his cruelty.

The deal with Simon and Ryan is annoying, and well overdue for a kiss and makeup. Whoever thought up that chemistry needs to rethink it. It's grown inane and bothersome. the choice of 'inspiration' is crap, too. The Beatles week was a'ight, but Dolly Parton? Leave that to Dolly please. Sure, Brooke did a great job, but did anybody else that week? Really? Ugh.

And this telethon had some really crappy artists on. I only watched it waiting for Robin Williams to show up, and it was at least worth that. Robin Williams as a Russian Idol wannabe who grabs Simon's ass is worth plenty of sorry singing.

Note: I don't watch every episode, and don't really care too much one way or another. I like the audition stages because it's hilarious, for obvious reasons, and I catch an episode most weeks to see who's still there and what the theme is. My mother, however, loves it, and watches every episode. So I do have a basis for my opinions.

I thought the Robin Williams act was funny, but then halfway through I started to get really offended. I mean, I (being Russian) love to laugh at myself, but man, he just kept going on and on about some issues that are actually very sensitive in reality and are highly inappropriate for the atmosphere of that particular show. I dunno, man. Thumbs down in my book. Bah.

      Dolly Parton.

Lmfao. Robin Williams was hilarious on that. [Edit: But, were I Russian, I could see where Mes was coming from. ] I did like how, when Simon goes "I thought you were brilliant," Robin said "Simon...I love you in a Brokeback way." LOL!

And Paula is usually Randy's parrot. 95% of the time, she just agrees with what he says. But, yeah, she's usually blatantly blitzed. Heh.

      I love Carly's accent.

And that thing with Simon and Ryan gets a little old every now and then, but it's fun to hear what kind of "wit" they throw at each other, though. Most of it's an act, though. They were on Conan O'Brien a little while ago, and they were so buddy-buddy that it actually seemed a little...awkward. Lol.

      >_>

Sorry 'bout that, Messszsszszzsz. His name had me chuckling, though, I gotta admit. Besides, us Americans aren't exactly known for our sensitivity to other nations' plight. Unless we blow it up, and then for some reason feel inclined to pay to rebuild it, better, stronger, faster! And such...

I forgot where I was going with that. I should probably go to bed now.

Oh, yeah, and O, the Brokeback thing was great. I think Robin kinda overstepped the bounds of primetime family broadcasting a bit in parts of that though. Like his 'name' and that bit. It was hilarious though, nonetheless. Loved the Stalin knock-knock joke, I'm going to pull that on my nephew:

      "Knock knock."

      "Who's there?"

      "I'LL ASK THE QUESTIONS HERE!"

Haha really?? Must find clip of that show.

But anyway, one "joke" that stands out for me was Williams making fun of Russians drinking a lot. That's actually a very real problem that reflects severe depression in people, brought on by terrible economic strains. I mean, it's like a foreigner making fun of poor people in New Orleans or something. Just so tasteless.

Arrr. Must - not - hold - grudge!

Edit: Hahaha MoS, no problem. I really did think some of it was hilarious. I did miss that interaction between him and Simon though, damn!

On a completely unrelated note (mostly because I didn't know Absolut was a Swedish company, and not a Russian one, haha), has anyone seen the Vodka commercial that had the U.S. up in arms about it?

Absolut had to "apologize" for it, but I thought it was funny as hell (partly because it's true...or seemingly so).

Edit: Never mind. Yeah, Robin says, "Simon, I love you in a Brokeback way!" then walks up to Simon and asks, "Can I touch you, in a manly way?" or something, Simon goes, "Sure, why not," they hug, and grab each others' asses. I totally paraphrased that, but that's the general idea.

      O, that's great. Teehee!

I thought the Idol Gives Back show was entertaining. I missed like the first 30 mins but I watched the rest - not enraptured or anything but I was working on a project and had it on in the background. I thought the Robin Williams bit was pretty good. I can see where some things may have been insulting if you're Russian, but it's no different than foreigners making fun of stupid Americans (which, just like drinking in Russian, is a very real problem in some states with illiteracy). So you have to just roll with it and not feel the need to be so politically correct all the time. Robin is good for that

I haven't been able to watch the performances on Tuesday nights lately because I haven't been getting home from work til about 9:30-10pm those nights At least I get to see who gets kicked off on Wednesday nights though. But I like watching them sing and forming my own opinions, not just going off the "recaps" they show. I think either Syesha or Kristie will get booted tonight. They've both in the bottom 3 for the last umpteen weeks now.

I was surprised to see Michael Johns get kicked off last week - I thought he had at least a few more good weeks left in him. And the manner in which Ryan did it was pretty brutal... "If you remember, last year we didn't make anyone go home the week of Idol Gives Back, but yeah, you're going home anyway..." I thought that was like kicking him while he was down. Poor taste, Ryan

I'm gonna have to miss the results show, ahhh! Anyone know of a place to view it online? It probably won't be up soon enough though, my roommate is bound to tell me as soon as I get back.

I thought that was terrible too. Jeez, just for the sake of adding more drama to the show... I doubt anyone appreciated that at all.

In case your roommate didn't tell you, it was Kristie Lee Cook that got sent home. Man can I call these or what?

      Whoo!! Finally her.

For some reason, I was confused at Brooke's emotional reaction at Kristie being sent home. I mean someone has to go every week... She reacted like Kristie was given the death sentence. I dunno, I always sympathize with people who are feeling sad, but I just couldn't get it this time. Maybe becauuuse... I don't like Kristie?

I'm sad Carly got kicked off I liked her. I thought for sure it was going to be Shyesha or Brooke. Shyesha keeps holding on by the skin of her teeth somehow, and this is the second time Brooke has restarted her song because she screwed up at the beginning. I still love Brooke though

Ugh Jason sang so horribly. That guy needs to get his act together fast - his looks alone won't last him much longer.

I predict the final three will be all guys.

I agree, I don't get how Jason has made it this far honestly...

And I think the final two HAVE to be a guy and a girl. It's always been that way in the past, and I think they do it like that on purpose.

Who do you think will win it all? I think David Archuleta probably will - he's got a huge fan following.

It'll probably be David, he's got a great voice. Jason's performance was crap last time, but he's got a great voice, how is Brooke still there? She's annoying and I don't like her voice.

I think Seisha will be in the top 3.

I think Syesha has been under-rated, throughout the competition.

The way I see it, the top three should be David Cook, David A. and Syesha.

I'm kind of torn on who I think should win, though. David A. has a great voice and consistently great performances. David Cook has an obvious bit of musical genius about him. I could see him just making so many edgy, original, masterpieces.

David A. is just so giddy and innocent, though...I think the industry would/will eat him alive.

I haven't seen all of the seasons, but they did have two guys in the top two once. It was between Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard or whatever, I know I probably butchered those names.

Nah, there's no way Brooke or Syesha will beat any of the guys (except maybe Jason). They just don't connect with the audience like the others do.

Syesha has an undeniably good voice... but I feel like I've heard and seen people like her too often before. I don't feel like she is new, or "fresh" enough. I'm guessing this is why she has been in the bottom three so often.

oh you're right - I forgot about that. I didn't watch that season. In that case, I bet it will be the two Davids in the Finale then

I agree. She even admits that she's somewhat uncomfortable on stage and she was more comfortable this week because she was "pretending to be someone else" I don't think that was a wise thing to say. People want someone comfortable and confident with themselves and who really connects with the audience. She's got a great voice, but her personality is lacking compared to the others.

That's exactly what I thought when she said that! Especially since the night before, the judges were praising her all over the place because they thought her personality finally shown through.... only for her to later say that it wasn't HER personality, she was just pretending?
