Snakes... Why'd it have to be snakes?!

I'm inclined to agree a little with both of you. I liked it well enough, but I have plenty of issues with it as well. I expected these isues, though, and was prepared for them. I didn't have nearly as much of a problem with Shia LeBeouf as I thought I would.

But they lost the gritty realism of the originals. The whole point of why Indy is so badass, that gritty, ""Indy is a badass because he takes realistic punches and falls underneath moving trucks in a way that looks like it could actually happen in real life," feeling. The movie required you to suspend reality a lot more in places besides the whole Ark of the Covenant/Holy Grail area thing. Also, I don't think I can offhand name one person Indy killed directly in this movie. WTF? Since when is Indiana Jones a humanitarian?

The plot wasn't bad, it fit with the times, as did all the storylines of the Indy movies. That I'm not complaining about. And overall, I think it was a pretty darn good movie. It had a tough name to live up to. I did catch a couple subtle Star wars references, as usual, and tons of call-backs to the originals.

I don't expect it to be a great film, but there's just no way I can miss it.

I just saw it last night and I agree with Man of Steel. Actually the only thing I even slightly disagree with is that I thought the fighting was realistic enough, but there were a few suspenses of reality that I wasnt expecting...

hey, I just realized, there was one guy he killed directly...at the grave site...

Yeah, the fighting was alright, thought it did lose a bit of realism I think. It wasn't quite as bad as Alextanium made it out to be, though.

And yeah, there was that one guy. That was hardly even badass though. :(

Agreed. It was improbable, but realistic in the sense of "if it were to happen, this is how I imagine it would..." (just like the fight between Uma Thurman and Mini Driver in the RV in KB2). There was almost an excess of people being thrown from cars, though. I didn't mind, but it was definitely out of the ordinary.

I'll be seeing this again tomorrow.

Anyhow, I enjoyed the movie. There were a few scenes that were a little too over the top, but not so many that I was annoyed. There were quite a few scenes that were really great, enough nods to the old films, and enough of the classic Indy feel to make the film worth while. It didn't take itself too seriously, and that was alright with me. I don't know what kind of expectations people had going into to it so that they would be disappointed, but it satisfied me. Maybe I'm easily entertained, maybe I can appreciate things for what they are, maybe some people need to grow the fuck up (yeah yeah, raping your childhood, a bloo bloo bloo).

Yeah, though honestly the bit with the monkeys and vines was far more annoying to me than the fridge. At least the fridge was lead-lined. Even the mine car chase in Temple of Doom had a sense of realism to it.


But it's understandable, really, if you think about it. Ever try going back and writing another chapter of a story you started 20 years ago? It's not easy. Though what scares me is that most of hard stuff like the characterization was okay. Just the logic got beat over the head with a shovel. So maybe I can't blame that... Can't really blame Lucas on this one, either. The blame is mainly on Spielberg for screwing up the feel of the movie.


At least Temple of Doom is no longer the worst of the series, though. Not that 'worst' really meant anything, as good as the originals were in the first place. I still like this one, don't get me wrong, but it's a lot like the Star Wars prequels. It's a great movie, as long as you don't compare it to the rest of the series. So I won't compare it anymore, because it'll only depress me. :P

'Lead-lined' doesn't make you impervious to nuclear fire temperatures.

I saw it yesterday and its alright. The end was pretty good though.

I couldn't believe when that golemn ate that guy.

Supernatural is not sci-fi. Indiana Jones is about supernatural themes surrounding religious relics.

Not science fiction garbage.

Haven’t seen the movie yet but, diving into a fridge to survive a bomb doesn't sound very "sci-fi" to me.

Indiana Jones has always had plenty of unbelievable moments. I haven't seen the new one yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were some things in it that make you just go: "Oh...right....ok...:roll:" just like there were in the last ones.

As far as the punching goes, the trademark, over the top "POW" sound, along with all of the one-punch knockouts, has been a part of Indy films since the beginning. Jumping into a fridge to survive a nuclear blast (at face value) sound no less believable than Indy wrapping his ankle once in the strands of a rope bridge to survive cutting it in half and dropping a good 50 yards against a stone wall, or Willie being unharmed during a plummet into a firey pit and being suspended 5 feet over the surface of the lava, when another man burst into flames, screaming in pain, when he was still like 20 ft away.

Some of the reviews in here are just way tooooo brutal.

I just got back from seeing it , and I loved it!

It was no more or less better or worse than the previous two Indiana Jones movies.

Unlike some sequals, this one came away with few loose ends in regards to the main character of Indiana Jones. Everything seemd tied up nice and neat. If Harrison Ford never made another, this would be the perfect last one.

EDIT: Okay, now that I've had time to get off the "I just saw a movie in a theater" buzz, and really think about the film, it's not really all it's cracked up to be.

HOLD UP, BEFORE YOU KILL ME.

In not one way is Indiana Jones 4 a "bad" movie. In fact, it was entertaining from start to finish, and was worth my $8.50 USD. A great Sunday night with some friends.

But, for an Indy flick, it tasted odd. The directing and effects were grand, I wouldn't expect anything better. But as far as story progression goes, it was... quite stale. Without spoiling anything, it's just two groups of people, bad guys and good guys, fighting to get to a location, with a certain object.

Chase scenes, action scenes, alot of stuff inbetween, but not alot of storyline WITH it. And that tacked on love shit (although it was essential to the plot, it kind of came out of nowhere) was really a cop out in my opinion. As far as the actual storyline goes, people calling it sci-fi... it's not even the problem that it's sci-fi, but that they did so little to really flesh out the story and anything, and once you reach the climax, you're expected to say "oo oo pretty effects, even though I have no clue whats going on." Besides the fact that your suspension of disbelief has to be out of the roof for this film....

Not to insult my intelligence, I knew very well what was going on, but it happened too fast and was still a little bit of a stale mate.

On a whole, Indy is what it is, a summer movie. But it's getting Star Wars fever. First three films, grand. Then the next three, still Indy, but not such.

Sure, go see Indy 4. In fact, I urge you to go to the theater within this weekend, see it with some friends, and enjoy yourself. But please, whatever you do, don't go in there expecting the world on a silver platter.. because it just won't happen. It honestly won't.

And, I hope you guys like Shia Labouef, he's going to be around for a while.

I saw the movie late last night so I got tired during the end of it. I thought it was pretty good, but not great. It got weird near the end of the movie and I didn't really like that part. The beginning to the beginning of the end of the movie were good in my opinion, but the last part was bad.

Also what was with Mac switching sides, what was it, four times? I thought the part in the dining place with Mutt(Shia LaBeouf) and Indy were talking and then Mutt started the fight between the greasers and the jocks was hillarious. Also I agree that Shia LaBeouf's yell is funny.
