      Hitchhickers guide to the galaxy

      Right, two things here.

      1. It has an amazing film
      2. I want that guide!

I hated the film! There are things the author does with words that just can't be translated on film.

No, the film is not horrible. It's good, honestly. People are just bullshitting because they're into 300 and Meet The Fockers. Basically, people are just too snobby to accept the laid back movie that hasn't really got 100 stars.

      JDea.... huh???

Saw the movie and didn't think it was too entertaining. Definitely could have used improvement, but it wasn't too bad. For some odd reason, I have yet to read the book. I did recently gift it to someone who liked the movie.

      The movie was... Okay.

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy Trilogy, on the other hand, is one of the greatest series of humorous books ever to be written. Honestly. Right up there with Discworld, in my book.

I thought the movie was pretty good, in the sense that everything looked pretty much exactly as I imagined it would based on having read the book (with the exception of the ending, but what can you do).

As far as the books go... the first one is AMAZING... the second and third are "pretty good", but the fourth and fifth were kind of... not memorable...

Do not spoil the ending, as I have yet to read up untill the end. When I was reading the book, it rambled on so much that I lost concentration and I didn't understand anything.

This is not the reason people dislike the film. I have no idea where the 300 and Meet the Fockers references came from, either.

People dislike it because they feel the film doesn't capture the style with which Douglas Adams wrote the books with. I'd agree with them there, as it would seem Cusp and Man of Steel would, too.

Possibly the reason you don't understand this is because you clearly don't appreciate the books, you think they ramble on too much, which is fair enough, if that's your opinion. But try to understand that those of us who read the books first, and enjoyed them are coming at the film from a very different angle to you, and will have a different view of it.

So people aren't quite just bullshitting at all, Jdea.

Ok well I suppoe you have some good points there, but I thought it was great. I mean, if you filter out the writer and the previous versions, I'm sure anyone would think it's an alright film.

But I do see your point.

What he said, though the movie did capture Douglas Adams's style a lot better than I had anticipated, when I first heard about the movie. A few things, like Marvin the Paranoid Android, really were dead on. Others, however, were way off. Overall, it was a movie I'd see again, even after already seeing it twice. But then there is no limit to how many times I could read the books over.

If you filter out the writer, you're going to be left with a total sense of, "What the hell was that?"

I had to take a reading test on the book. I lost it and watched the film instead it was ok.

I did that but the other way round, saw bits of the series, then I saw the film. Then I read the book and thought it was too complex. He rambled so much I lost track

People tend to say the film was bad because it was nowhere near as good as the original material. The film in my opinion was mediocre and the plot made no sense at all, alongside butchering most of Adam's characters and sense of humour. The first version I heard was the radio series, which I thought was incredible.

Jdea, apparently you don't understand the whole point of the HHGTTG books, because the whole point of them was the rambling. Comprehend it and you'll find some of the best humour ever written.

Better idea to watch the TV series in my opinion.

Anybody catch the Hogfather TV thing by the way? What a load of shit that was.

Hogfather? Didn't work. Which was a shame.

Hitchhiker's TV series was good, on the other hand. Ford Prefect was perfectly how I imagined him.

Yeah, and Arthur Dent was pretty spot on, although that was probably due in part to his doing the voice in the radio series...

Zaphod and Ford were played particularly badly in the movie, but I think that was largely due to the script... I think the Vogons were quite good though, visually at least. That was the movie's greatest redeeming factor I reckon.

I'm not even going to ask what the difference is between the two comedy types. But I will say that I hate american sitcoms, they're too cheesy.

I love some American sitcoms, i hate other ones. I've seen some british sitcoms and i do find them funny. I wonder how different the British "Office" is? The American one is my favorite sitcom besides Scrubs, and it's based off the British one, so i definately gotta check it out. Has anyone seen the two?

American Office lacks Ricky Gervais. That's all I need to know.

Yes, Ricky Gervais basically makes The Office, The Office.

You liked the Office, Jdea? I wouldn't have thought it your thing.

Extras is further proof of Gervais' genius, though I would consider is podcasts with Karl Pilkington a definitive proof.
