Yeah...I'm actually glad that it's all over because it's been going on forever and I just wanted to know how it all ended!! =)

That being said...I am still extremely excited for the last two movies to come out...and I'll be listening to the HP audiobooks and having HP movie marathon nights for many years to come. Same with LOTR.

But for anyone who isn't big into HP, I can definitely understand this sentiment Howie, I'd be sick of it too.

At least we don't have a Star trek following.

Hey. I think there is nothing better than getting totally encapsulated into a book.
But why is THIS so big?
What new ideas does this Harry Hotter bring? Anything that has not been done over and over again?

It's not that there's anything new about it. She just writes good stories, that's all there is to it. People like good stories, so people like Harry Potter.

Harry Potter died for me starting with the third book.
The first two books were great - a vibrant story of fantasy in the modern world, with heroes and villains. Then it all became dark and gloomy...

And don't get me started on the movies. Just like the books turned bad starting with the third or fourth, the movies were even worse. Starting with the third, Dumbledore transformed from the wise old calm wizard into a hippie in tie-dye robes and a freaky attitude.

Thus, I turned away from the movies, the books, from the series in general.

Personally I'm not a fan of the movies at all. The books are way better, I think you can get more of a feeling of excitement as you read through the last few chapters. Whereas, watching the movies can be far more predictable.

Also, the books last longer. :p

As far as the movies go though, I prefer the newer ones because the acting ability of the three main characters seems to get better as they get older.

My Harry Potter journey is actually kinda interesting, because I'm sure it's very different from other HP fanatics. Here's how it went.

The first book came out, I had no idea what it was or why people were making such a fuss about it. Whenever something like this happens, I usually don't take interest in it, whether on purpose or subconsciously I'm not entirely sure, but whenever something is huge in the public...that right away makes me disinterested. I tend to only like things that are not overly popular.

The first movie had been out for quite a long time before I saw it, and just rented the video. I loved it right away and thought it was great.

Then the second movie came out and I actually saw that in the theater. I thought that movie was really great as well. And then the third movie came out...and I rented the dvd and thought it was ok, but was kinda confused by alot of stuff. By this point I still had never cracked open a HP book.

Then I rented the fourth movie and thought it was absolutely freaking amazing. I had watched it with a friend who, had read all the books and I kept asking him questions and stuff and he kept saying, yeah...they explain it better in the book, etc. It was such an awesome movie that it sparked my interest in the 5th book.

So that same friend downloaded the Order of the Phoenix audio book on my laptop. I never listened to it for awhile, but then, several months ago...I listening to the whole thing and found it absolutely awesome. But I realized that there was alot I was missing.

So I downloaded the fourth audio book, and then the third, and then the second, and then the first. I've listened to each of the audio books, while making my jewelry probably about ten times each at least and what can I say, I got completely hooked!

I downloaded the Half-Blood Prince and loved it...and soon found myself increasingly excited for the Order of the Phoenix movie to come out, and for the final book.

Haha somehow I had turned into a serious HP fanatic.

"It all just happened so fast..."

Yes, but she doesn't only write GOOD stories, she has an incredible ability of catching thoughts and emotions and then converting them into words. I mean I've read a lot of books but J.K. Rowling is just amazing in her way of writing.
Plus, she has created a story in "our" world, meaning she gives us the impression that this world might exist, we simply don't know (although it most probably doesn't ) ; just like the Neverending Story by Michael Ende or Narnia by C.S.Lewis and the like.
Plus, the idea of Magic is great; and she has created a very interesting and fascinating way of how Magic could work in a world where we, the human beings (or muggles actually ), live...

Thus, saying 'people like good stories, so people like Harry Potter', is not much of a praise... I'd rather say: she writes both very simply and very complex. So, for some people it's only amusing entertainment, whereas for others it's a maze of hints and traces, questions and resolutions where it's very easy to get lost in (in a positive way)...

      Ha HA NinA.

I am not denying she is a good writer. But I have read many many great books. They never come an obsession of sorts.

Harry Potter is so overrated it's not even funny. They're right up there with the Beatles and the Bible in terms of overrated-ness. I'm not saying Harry Potter or the Beatles are bad, but they didn't deserve a quarter of the attention they got.

Wasn't that funny. Maybe because I've never watched Saturday Night LIve (or maybe because I only watched a minute before I got bored out of my mind).

You find the movies predictable... could this possibly be because you have read the books and know the plot?

I don't know why though everyone likes the first two/ three movies (Mixed feelings about POA.) they were terrible! They are getting better everytime though.
