      Football Manager 2008? (PC)

Did you buy it or are you going to?

I have ordered it on e-bay.

I have read some mixed reviews on the game, whats your view on it?

I bought it, and it's great. My previous version was CM 03/04 (in which I took Ukrainian lower league relegation favourites to the Champion's League) and it's quite a step up .

I'm using fake players, and they all get a unique and realistic face drawn that changes with age and morale. Just this one change adds a lot to the game.

Match day is fluid, as there are well-written pre- and post-match analysis, pre-match, half-time and full-time team talk, real-time tactic changes (no need to pause).

Media are m,ore active than in FM07. For instance they will hound you after your team wins by a dodgy on-off-side goal, and you'll form rivalries with other managers in clubs. I even complimented a manager after his recent success, but he turned round and said he was flattered but thought I was incompetent.

On the subject of incompetence, club confidence is also improved, having clear subsections fully detailing your fan's opinions on you. For example, it has a section on transfers, and the fans think I've made a brilliant signing, although a crushing 7-3 defeat against a non-league team overshadows the positives...

All in all, very good, and the interface and UI are nice. Lots of player photos if aren't weird like me and prefer to use real players, lots of kits and logos.

Only problem is, my wonderteam from 03/04 have gone bust in real life so aren't in the game... not so wonderous in reality I guess.

I got it yesterday and i have only done friendly's so far but they still haven't fixed the really annoying bug which is there are injuries and red cards in alot of games. Apart from that it's good but i can't believe they haven't fixed that bug.

Hmmm I am undecided on this. Played 2 won 2 - 6-0 v Man City and 4-0 v Borough! Could be just me, and a good start, seems a wee bit easy at the moment.

I don't really like the new set up or the new skin, but we shall see how I get on

Hmmm. I'm finding it rather challenging at the moment. Condition, in paticular, depletes very quickly and a lot of players get tired after just one or two matches.

When I was playing CM 03/04, I'd go winning 10-15 games in a row, and I decisively beat PSV with a gang of misfits that would make a Conference side embarassed. So the difficulty is a change, at least.

Yeh it is harder with championship manager about three years ago i was PSV and i won something like 14 trophies in 4 seasons. Don't think i am going t be doing this on this game.

Yeh it does help when your Man Yoo.

Do you play the same formation/tactics or do you base them on the opponent and who's playing etc?

      Call me boring but: 4-4-2

I'll give it a try though. I'm playing Dnipro next in the Ukrainian Cup, so it shall be a challenge...

Btw, if you're wondering "why Ukraine?", I started playing as a Ukrainian side as a joke (and to waste time). And then I began winning...

Typically same formation and player tactics, but change depending on the team I am against. Don't want to be attacking away to Arsenal for example. Changing specific player instructions to keep the full backs where they should be against counter attacking teams and using Mr Hargreaves primarily as an anchor to cut out any threats the opposition might have in the midfield/attack

I hate these football games, i do like football but to be honest, if you want to play football, why don't you just go outside and kick a ball around with your mates, its much more fun.

That's like saying "Instead of playing SimCity, go live in a city." Football Manager is not a football game. It's a football management game. And you can't exactly go outside and manage your mates. Because that's called being an arse.
