Somebody I know has lent me Doom3 but the problem is I am afraid to play it! I have heard so many stories and I was watching somebody play it once and a zombie snuck up behind him. When he turned around, it was right in his face. We both jumped then he blew its head off with a shotgun. I wonder what kind of responses I am going to get for this one.

      Doom 3 <3

I love that game! So much fun, especially playing at 2:00am, alone in my dark room, hyped up on lots of pepsi from trying to stay awake, with surround sound going. FREAKY!

So much fun though. The makers of that game are geniuses. They taunt you so much, and have given it a perfect atmosphere. For example, there was a part where I'm walking down a hall way. There is writing in blood all over the walls. Maim, Kill, Death, Destroy, Blood, Shred, ect. The hall is very, very dark. All you know is that there is a hall, and that there is light at the end of it that you need to get too. Some where at about 3/4 of the way through the hall, there is a flickering light. So walking down the hall, the light flickers. Each flicker is only a frame or two. Flickers a couple times, Flick, Flick, Flick. On the second flick, for a mere frame, theres a big... thing, standing at the end, staring at me with a chain saw. Ready to kill. Flick, and its gone. I fire random shots hoping to hit something. Now I'm cautious. I walk down the hall more. Light flickers, nothing. A little more, it flickers again. Once again on the second flick I see the creature for a frame or two. This time, hes closer, and more to the left side of the hall. Flick. He disappears again. Once again let I mention, surround sound, pepsi and pitch black at 2:00 am. I can hear the echoes of the hall, I can hear my own footsteps, afraid they're someone else's. I continue my walk. Finally another flick. This time hes RIGHT UP in my face, and the light flicks and he disappears. I unload a clip into the darkness, firing blindly, just hoping to hit something. When my clip is empty, I run as fast as I can to the end of the hall, and to light. I make it. I wonder if that creature is still in the hall, so I look back. Bad idea. I look back into the dark hall with the flickering light. Flick, Flick. Nothing. I wait. Flick, Flick. Nothing. I decide to continue to my destination, so I turn to my right, and only a few steps in front of me is the creature lunging at me with his chainsaw. Not only did I back up into a corner and just unload and unload on the thing, but I jumped backwards IRL too.

Another one, are the Cherubs. Nasty little buggers. They're like little babies with wings. No feet though, looks like a bee stinger or something instead of feet. Anyway, theres a small staircase, going down into my destination. At the bottom of it, it levels out, then to the right theres a small walk and another small stair case. To the left, theres a small, seemingly insignificant indent in the wall. So I walk down the little stairs. Look to my left, small little area with nothing in it. Worthless. Its a small corner, pitch black, but its barely big enough for my person to stand in. Insignificant. So I go to my right. After a few steps, I hear behind me (surround sound again) a small baby cooing. Now, my brain starts to argue. One half is clicking "Don't turn around, Don't turn around, damn it don't turn around. You are hearing a baby in a scientific laboratory on Mars that has been possessed by demons of hell. Use your head and don't turn around. Run, Like, Hell." the other half on the other hand is curious "Just... just a peek. Just take a look, see what it is, and thats all. Its just a baby right? Can't hurt you... much." So I turn around(Idiot). There I see it, a little baby crawling toward me. All alone. Its dragging it self across the ground, looks like its legs have been ripped off. It looks at me, with its glowing red eyes, pale and cracked skin, and evil fangs and I ask myself, "Who the hell were this kids parents?" Apparently it heard me. I look back in that corner as a bunch of little red dots (eyes) appear, and a bunch more of these things jump out at me. So these things apparently think I'm a human nipple.

These and many more stories from Doom 3. Long story short, its an amazing game. Lots of freaky moments, and a very awesome atmosphere. I strongly suggest playing it late a night in a dark room. Its just not the same during the day. If possible, surround sound. The game is amazing.

Doom 3 is definately the most scary game out there. I almost shit my pants on some occasions when unprepared and attacked by monsters. It is an excellent game in my opinion, despite the shitty weapon feeling in some of the weapons.

Beg to differ. Doom 3 is scary for a while, until you realize that *all* of the scary moments are just monsters-jump-out-whenever-it's-dark-or-quiet moments. It's a good game, sure, but nothing beats F.E.A.R. when it comes to horror, IMO. That game scared the everloving shit out of me.

Of course I know that's what makes it scary, but knowing that doesn't make it less scary for me.

I am kind of a pussy when it comes to scariness in games. I had enough trouble with the zombie town in Half-Life 2. From your responses I am even more afraid to play it!

Okay, I'm not going to spoil it for Cymek, because this was one of my favourite parts, but who remembers "The Mirror"

It is possible playing two players in it with PC aswell, if using some modification. That's what I have heard anyways.

Hahaha. THAT sounds fuckin awesome. I've only played the DOOM 3 and F.E.A.R. demos. They both looked dope, though. Can't wait to play more of them.

When I saw my cousin play F.E.A.R. I didn't find it even close as scary as Doom 3, but perhaps I didn't see any scary scenes in it.

Isn't F.E.A.R. all about ghosts? I am totally not afraid of ghosts. Demons, now that's another story.

It's not that THAT scary. I'm a sissy when it comes to most horror movies (although i think i've grown out of that now, it's been a few years since i've seen one), but i didn't really find any moments in Doom 3 when i was THAT scared. Not like some people seem to describe. Sure, there are times when you're thinking "shit, if i go down here i just KNOW something is gonna happen down here" You just don't know exactly what or how big it's going to be But there has been no jumping out of my skin or real life shouting or anything. Actually, in all honesty, and i know this might sound really strange, but i find the original Doom game have a much more twisted atmosphere to them. I don't know exactly what it is - the architecture, the music, the enemies, all of the above, who knows - but it's just more twisted to me. Doom 3 relies on surprise and darkness. The original games were just plain evil and warped.

It is a really good game though, and as i said, it does have some anxiety inducing moments, and some really (really) cool parts. Suck it up and face your fears
