Yeah I don't get this. How are we drawing any huge political statements out of this when we haven't got the first clue what was really going on.

Seriously, we have no idea if it was an emergency, or a show of asshole-like "dominance", or whatever. You cannot gather this much from a 3 minute video clip.

However, even so, I'm inclined to think that this kind of driving is to prevent them from being blown off the road. It makes logical sense. You cannot compare the area in question to an American city; you cannot compare military vehicles and procedure to civil service vehicles and procedures.

But once again, there is no definitive proof for any opinion or inferred argument.

From the articles I found about the clip, I couldn't find any reason for them to hurry, other than not being targets, and that their driving was much more aggressive than convoys etc. are meant to be. Again, if they were in such a hurry, I don't see how they'd have time to film it or insult civilians.

I think that in 9 of 10 cases such retarded and disrespectful driving is done without any good reason. But I guess you could see it like a downward spiral: American troops act like assholes --> people want to blow them up --> American troops have to act like assholes in saving their own asses --> more people want to blow them up --> American troops rape a girl and set her on fire out of self defense --> More people try to blow them up.

Yeah, which is why I think it'd be a good idea for the troops to get the hell out, but that's my opinion for another place, another time

Couldn't we just use choppers intead too? It would get rid of the need to turn the road into a destruction derby.

Rather good idea. I guess it becomes a problem when they need to land and send in soldiers, rather than blow stuff up though, when in a busy area like that

Helicopters are much more expensive. I think enough money has been blown already on the Iraq 'war', no? Congress probably wouldn't approve another hike in budget because we wanted to drive in style.

Uh think of what your saying. Have you heard of rocket propelled grenades? Yah they dont like helicopters that much.

There ain't much threat from RPGs, in proportion to the number of snipers though. I think his point was that it would avoid traffic, not avoid attacks anyway
