They kinda skipped over a lot of the dark parts, like when Harry yells at Dumbledore. I thought that this would've made the movie great. And the ending scene when Harry and Dumbledore talk was soooo weak. It explained nothing about the prophecy's backgorund and the secret to Harry's scar. Dubledore just said I care too much about you and the movie ended. Weak sizzauce. The movie coulda used an extra 1/2 hour to explain the book a little more. It was still my favorite one of the movies.
Why does it seem so hard to wake up now and see who we really are?

I had this same exact convo with my friend. Actually if you read several posts back I explained the same thing about the scene where Sirius dies.

Anyways...I totally agree with the Bellatrix thing. Why the hell does she look all scared? She is supposed to be crazy and yelling at him and telling him that he has to mean the curse, etc. It doesn't seem fitting for her character at all to look all frightened and such when Harry has her on the ground. Boo! Lame! lol

Anywho, the movies never did seem to get some aspects of the book quite right. :/ Even though I realize they have to exclude some parts because the movie would become too long, small details like this that can be easily done right are also fucked up.

Agreed. But I still love the movies even so. =)

I personally don't see why everyone thought this movie was great. I thought most of the other movies did a good job in following the book, but this one did a pretty bad job. Plus, since in ths book it jumps around from hogwarts, to the burrow, to the ministry a lot, it was really difficult to smash everything into the movie, so there were basicly no transitions. Aside from all that, the special effects were stil awesome, and emma watson is still hot. (I am also young enough to say that)

While the last movie was a bit disappointing, I do indeed still love the movies a lot.

Yes, I look forward to seeing the new movies, and always buy them the day they are released on DVD. I've stopped trying to compare them to the book, because I fully understand that there's no way they can fit the entire plot and all the details into the movie, and still make it a good theatrical experience. I take the movies for what they are and enjoy the fact that they are Harry Potter. I really enjoy all the special effects, and seeing the actors improve in their skills.

Yeah, if you're a nerd like us it's fun comparing the movies to the books just to point out differences and such. But you are definitely correct in saying that in no way should the movies be held up next to the book comparison wise. I see the movies as extra little amazing bonus features of the books. Like...the special features on a DVD. Some are better than others...but it's all Harry Potter...and it's all awesome.

you should see Grint in "Driving Lessons" He is totally adorable as Ben, and does a great job with a character so unlike Ron. As for the whole Ron being cuter now - I thought that that was just my perspective becuase of having seen him in that movie. But yes, both of the boys are maturing now and I have to constantly remind myself that they are just 15 in this movie.

Now, please keep in mind that I have not read half-blood prince yet so PLEASE don't spoil it for me. I understand they have to change and compress plot, but it seems like they seem to change the character a bit as well.

Having only read through OOTP so far, I interpretted Ron and Hermione little bickering as being like an old married couple - very much like Mr and Mrs weasly actually. Only at this age they are too young to understand - let alone communicate their feelings. The little parts they put in the movie about them seemed a little, i dunno, strained maybe. just outta character.

Also Luna seems much closer to Harry and Nevelle in the movie and since it didn't have the whole Quibbler article it sorta feels like - when did they become such friends? But then again that may just be foreshadowing to the next books.

They way the Harry/Cho relationship ended made harry look like a jerk. Although in the book I sorta felt like it was cho being sorta irrational and unfair.

I really wish they took an extra couple minutes to have Mrs. Weasley's boggart. I think it would have been time well spent to set the tone of the danger that lies ahead. Also, as a mother that part just really struck a nerve with me - I cried all over that page!

Oh! one more thing. I noticed in DA scenes Ginny is the only girl wearing long pants instead of a skirt. Maybe that was a very subtle was of showing her as being sorta tom-boyish? having grown up with so many bros and all. In the book I got the distinct feeling that Harry relates to her more than any of the girls although none of their "talks" really made it in the movie.

Ok so I totally love this movie now.

We had a rocky start, but I guess our relationship just needed some time to develop.

I knew I'd just have to see it a few times to get over all the original issues I had with it and comparing it to the book and such. Also I've picked up on some things that I thought had been left out, but these are things that you need to listen/watch very very closely to even hear/see. I had to turn the volume up way high to pick up on what the Order was talking about when Harry first arrives and hear Sirius calling Snape Snivellus and Snape making fun of Sirius for hiding in his mom's house (I really wanted to see the stand off between Sirius and Snape and was sad it wasn't in the movie but never caught that snipit of convo before), stuff like that, etc.

I watched all 1-5 last night...it's awesome seeing them grow up...but if you watch #5 and then #1 they all look like babies it's so adorable!!! lol

edit: Oh...and Sirius winks at Harry twice. I think I melted both times.

I should totally do that, watch the movies 1-5 in a row all in one night! Whoaaa HP overload, but in a good way.

Although it's usually hard for me to do those things, like... I get this dorky feeling that I've been through so much with the films that I can't possibly go back to the beginning just yet... Tho it applies more to the books in this case.

I started listening to all the audobooks over again starting at Sorceror's Stone. It's really neat starting back at the beginning knowing what you now know about the series.

I know what you mean, and I felt that way at first...but was soooo glad when I did it. They are so itty bitty and adorable. You'll enjoy it. =)

Although, I've also been listening to books 1-7 like constantly for the past several months so it wasn't a huge deal for me to go back to the beginning with the movies.

edit: yah...what Burns said ...the audio books are full of win, don't know what I'd do without 'em! Thanks to Burnsy for that.

Compared to the other movies, I hated this one. It was a big disappointment.
It was way too fast paced. They omitted way to much. I felt like I was being shoved through the story line. I swear it was like they wanted to cut through everything fast enough just so they could elongate the kiss.
Sirius death was done absolutely wrong! It looked so lame! It pisses me off! I want to shoot the director.
I had some cool visuals though. I really liked Voldemort's broken glass attack. That was one of the very few welcome surprises.

All things that I've said before and I totally agree.

I still stand by every negative thing I said about the movie in this thread. If you read through it you'll probably agree with everything I've said.

But when I finally got over all that crap, I decided I love it, just like the rest of them.

      Alright guys, here's my opinion.
I agree that it was very fast pace and that some parts were done wrong, especially the Department of Mysteries part, but i highly disagree that this movie was a disappointment. i don't think you can say that this movie wasn't the most entertaining out of the 5. It had the best special effects, it probably had the best plot considering the fifth book was the best out of those five, the fight scenes were the best also considering the others pretty much didn't have any, and even the humor that was put into the movie was good. So here is my final decision on the order i like them most.

      1. The Order of the Phoenix
      2. The Prisoner of Azkaban
      3. The Goblet of Fire
      4. The Chamber of Secrets
      5. The Philosophers Stone

Now, i never said i HATED the other movies, but i think that they're getting better because the directors are making the movies a bit more dark and mature, it is more enjoyable for more mature people. Just think about how the 7th movies going to be.

Depends on who's directing it. I hope it's not David Yates, we already know he's doing HBP as well. Meh.
