Meh, Sigur Ros is alright. Nothing special.

I like that song hoppípolla (due to the BBC using it in their Planet Earth adverts).
-
woah! hey neo neo
long time no see
-
i'm listening to them right now
-
:? Repost, but yea they are good.
-
y'know, i've tried to get into them, and i LOVE ambient music (and shpongle for that matter  ), but every song i've heard by sigur ros has been sort of "ho hum, diddly-dum" :)
they're sor tof the 'franz ferdinand' of ambient IMO...
*shrugs* variety is the spice of life though ..glad you've found an enjoyable artist.

Funny, I just started listening to them. They sound good so far.

I can’t say I like their new album Takk, but their 2000 album Ágćtis Byrjun is one of my favourite albums ever. Furthermore, Viđrar vel til loftárása is one of my favourite songs. And you can’t listen to Olsen Olsen and not relaaaaax.
Neo you ought to listen to the lyrics more, they’re great too. Here is a page with the original lyrics, and translations: http://www.alwaysontherun.net/sigur.htm#a
I like these lines …
klifruđum skýjakljúfa
sem síđar sprungu upp
friđurinn úti
we climbed skyscrapers
which later exploded
the peace was gone
… especially since they were written in 1999.

I love Sigur Rós. Theirs is one of the most atmospheric, psychedelic and poignant music I've ever heard! Dream music indeed. :)
Takk… may be my favorite album, followed by Ágćtis Byrjun, Von and ( ).
I don't understand the lyrics… But I prefer it that way. Words are a distraction, I'd rather listen to the human voice as pure music.

I love Sigur Ros there on my top eight favorite bands.
I love their song Untitled though .. if anyone has seen the music video it's very well done .
Sigur Ros I find is one of those bands that you love them or you hate them because it has more of a "intrumental themed" music . but meh I think they rock *woot*

Does my username look familiar?
I really, really want to see them live. I hear they put on an amazing show.
-
Of course I found them from Vanilla Sky and thought they were pretty damn cool.
I bought Agaetis Byrjun and ( ) untitled white album both excellent. I guess they are considered more slow-core than ambient. I have a pod cast of some ambient music I like. It's pretty quiet I think.
I think therefore I ambient!

I love Sigur Ros.
They're not really an ambient band though. Listen to one of Brian Eno's Ambiet Albums. His Music For Airports Album is what really got ambient music going. Eno, when he first started Ambient music, wanted to create something that could easily be lost in the background, become a part of the listener's aural-landscape; Good Ambient music though, is meant to be interesting if one did choose to listen to it like a non-ambient album.
Sigur Ros doesn't try to blend into the background, it's simply, beautiful. The Pop Song is my favorite Sigur Ros song.

yah staraflur and the pop song are both awsomee. saeglopur is a nice one too. Did I ever mention I saw them live in May...realy great show i thot. they recreate their recorded sound live...except way better. See one of their shows if you ever get a chance.

Sigur Ros is great, but I tend to prefer other post-rock srtists, like Godspeed You! Black Emperor or Explosions In The Sky.

A friend of mine was raving about how exciting the concert was. Then he tried making me listen to it. One song was enough though. All soft slow stuff sort of sounds the same to me. The song I heard was a hugely long one with probably a build at least 3 minutes long where he kept repeating the same vocal line over and over. Basically hypnotic/relaxing stuff. I'm not sure which is better...soft slow relaxing stuff or powerful/loud fast stuff that gives you a rush.
