In short, the process of me turning into a brony.

(for those that somehow are unaware, a "brony" is a male fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.)

Phase 1) Ew, I'm staying away from that girly stuff.
Phase 2) *looks up stats* The f**k? 85% of the fanbase is male...people are saying it's a good show.
Phase 3) *notices it in everything* Screw it. I can't believe I'm about to watch this.
Phase 4) *one episode later* I...I...I liked that...idk...gotta watch another one just to be sure.
Phase 5) *another episode later* I can't believe it. I like this show.
Phase 6) *one season later* This show is amazing. I love it. I'm officially a brony.
Phase 7) You have GOT to watch this show.

I was extremely skeptical before I started watching.

Cool.

I have watched the show before but sadly it doesn't grab my attention enough for me to really become attached to it as opposed to other things.

I've watched MLP with my little sister before and I can definitely see why it is so popular. Unlike most shows aimed at this demographic, the show doesn't seem to treat them as if they are idiots, well for the most part at least (friendship lessons are present in almost every episode I've seen thus far). The show even throws in some adult references for the older demographic too, though I'm too young to get any of them. Also, each main character is distinct with their own personality. Contrary to popular belief, original characters generally don't attract people, distinct characters do (hence why "Undertale" characters gained so much popularity despite being mainly archetypes). I mean we have a shy butterfly, a tomboy, a normal, a Texan, a fashionista, a pink sugar rush, and the little bit of masculinity. A pretty diverse cast if I say so myself. Finally, there are fight scenes, and boy oh boy do men like their fight scenes. I haven't really seen any of them so I can't really describe them.

Overall, it's a great show, but it just isn't something I watch on my own. I do think that it deserves the fan-base it has has built up, but I just don't see myself being a part of it. I'm pretty sure if it was aimed at a different audience, it would get much less unnecessary hate than it does now and more people would probably more accepting of its fan-base, even if its core doesn't change.

just curious how do the ponies do anything? They have no arms, so if they want to open a door for example how do they do it? It seems a bit strange to anthropomorphise a pony...

Magic, magnetic hooves, or fake door handles. The first two are very important.
