Favourite Pink Floyd songs?

So guys what is your favourite Pink Floyd song or album? My favourite songs are: Dogs, Wish you were here, Time, and Money. Best album has to be Dark Side of the Moon. If you don't know Pink Floyd then I suggest you start by listening to an album at a time (it's the only way to listen to Pink Floyd). They are more than just music, they are an experience.

Oh man, such a tough call.. At varioius times my favorite songs were Pigs (three different ones), Echoes, and Time. About a year ago Time moved to the top of the list because I heard it while I was falling asleep and I hit that incredible point where music becomes the most beautiful thing you can imagine and it seems to be more than just sound, it becomes the entire universe surrounding you and pulsing through you. Sometimes that's a soothing and amazing feeling, sometimes it becomes annoying or frightening - I think it depends on the music that's on and the mood you're in, or the state your mind is in at the time. But when Time came on I swear it seemed like it went on for literally hours and became the most perfect thing I could imagine. For many weeks after that in fact it was my favorite song of all (not just by Floyd).

I just listened to DSotM last night for the first time in years. Does anybody else think the cover really suits it? The whole album feels like a big empty black space, with some pure rays of colour... it reminds me very much of how 'xx' sounds. I can't really pick out a favourite song... the melodic content of 'Shine On' is just incredible, and 'Time' has the most tightly constructed guitar solo ever. Wish You Were Here has great lyrics... See Emily Play is one of the greatest works of psychedelic pop rock ever constructed. The only stuff I really don't like is The Wall; with the exception of a couple of songs I think that album is absolutely bloody awful. Oh, and I don't really like 'Money', I think it's clumsy.

My usual answer to a "favorite song" by any band is Echoes, but it does get more personally difficult in the light of the whole Pink Floyd experience. lol I've been obsessed with Pink Floyd since about my sophomore year in high school and love all the albums with the exception of the Final Cut (although it does have it's moments). With that said, it's definitely hard to pinpoint one favorite song or album. A few songs that have really stood out to me are Julia Dream, Cirrus Minor, The Crying Song, Fearless, among others. Dark Side of the Moon is my favorite album in it's own way, though I think Obscured by Clouds might take the lead. More seems close behind, considering my recent listening patterns.

Thanks UM - I always meant to watch that and just nver got around to it till now. Goes really well on a rainy St Pat's day with my 2nd Irish Coffee and a good buzz! The part I liked the most and seemed to sync the best to me was from the moment she fell into the pig pen and then the whole tornado sequence - perfect music for it! Yeah, those are two of my favorite moments in it. The song playing while the tornado is coming is "The Great Gig in the Sky." There are tons of strange parallels that make me crazy enough to think it might have all been intentional. "Echoes" with 2001, eh? That's a real trip. I just watched part of it. The band have categorically denied watching the Wizard of Oz at Abbey Road or the film having anything to do with DSotM. It's really an album about insanity. Lots of people think it's just general philosophical meanderings, but it's a concept album woven around the theme of losing your mind.

Yeah, it's obvious they didn't intentionally make it to sync up, just happened that way randomly, but it does give me the idea to make something like a short film that does deliberately sync up with some song and then leak the suggestion that people ought to play them together - through totally unofficial channels of course. This as a way of getting around copyright law that prevents amateur filmmakers from making music videos to existing songs they don't own the rights to. This way you can make a film with its own sound track and people can also watch it with the sound turned down and the appropriate music playing at the same time - 2 movies for the price of 1! And of course Echoes doesn't really sync with 2001 at all, it's just trippy visuals that match the general tone of the music. They do go well together though.

The album is about timeless aspects of the human experience. Insanity is just one small part of that, reflected in the song Brain Damage. It's certainly not what the whole album is about. I'll admit that I have synced DSOTM with The Wizard of Oz before and was pretty surprised lol. I doubt they intentionally tried to sync it, and would believe them if the said they didn't. Whether or not they did though, it is pretty cool. The "Balanced on the biggest wave..." part and the part in "On the run" where she looks across the sky are what really get me.

I have loved Pink Floyd ever since I was a kid growing up with Dark Side of The Moon. I remember playing near my house and seeing Pink Floyd: Off The Wall spray-painted on the walls of gutters and buildings. DSoTM has always been a favorite, along with Animals (probably the one I most enjoy idly listening to) and Wish You Were Here, but back when I was doing a lot of acid I always liked to listen to Relics (a compilation album of early material) because it fit my mood so well and the experience of the audio switching from ear-to-ear while tripping was amazing. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun always made me think trippy thoughts but mainly because my tripping friends often played it. Funny how no one mentions Floyd after Roger Waters left. Gilmour is good, but different. Another good experience was to trip all night long and then climb way up Mt. Bonnell here in Austin before dawn and watch the sunrise while listening to Roger Waters' Radio K.A.O.S. on my headphones. Something about the climactic parts of that album always made my mind explode as I timed the end of all power to the rising of the sun, my own personal nuclear bomb. So many good times...

He also pointed out that he had no reason to lie, as he was always candid about all of the other drug references and stuff. The title actually came from a picture his son drew of a classmate; Lucy is a real person, the drawing does indeed exist, and loads of other people corroborate it (here is a Snopes article, in fact). Funny how no one mentions Floyd after Roger Waters left. I think what you meant to say is "funny how no one mentions Floyd after Waters and Gilmour stopped working together". How many people do you see talking about 'The Final Cut', which was basically Waters working alone within the band? The Wall is also terrible except for the songs Waters and Gilmour collaborated on. A working title of the album was "A Piece for Assorted Lunatics". You shouldn't be so certain about artistic interpretations. Facets and causes of insanity are certainly a plausible interpretation. Personally I like Roger Waters' style and those albums, but I wouldn't call either of them my favorites. I tried it, too. I think it was AMC (American Movie Classics) or TCM (Turner Classic Movies) here in the U.S. that once showed the movie while playing DSoTM as the audio track. I watched and didn't find a lot to be excited about but I think it helps if you're high in some fashion. Without being on some nifty substance I really doubt I'm experiencing the intended effect. I do suspect that other movies and albums could sync up very well, though I would still believe it better to try it while intoxicated in some manner.

First off, of course Dark Side doesn't match up to Oz. I've tried it. It was ridiculous. In my opinion Gilmour is a musical genius and Waters is a self-obsessed pratt. So my favourites are mostly Gilmour's, like Sorrow and High Hopes. Went to see the Aussie Pink Floyd a couple of weeks ago, for the third time. Simply the best arena music in the world... Also I should mention that first time I smoked weed (which was also the first time I got drunk), this song was on in the background... but at the time I thought it was in my head... Needless to say, it was a pretty intense experience.

Went to see the Aussie Pink Floyd a couple of weeks ago, for the third time. Simply the best arena music in the world... Every year they come through my city I say I'm going to see them and never do. I'm going to have to check it out for sure now
