      Harry Potter had better characters (Not that LotR had poor characters, but I felt myself connecting with more in HP than LotR), but LotR has a more appealing world to me.

      HP, but I think that LOTR has a more thrilling sequence of events
      I fill my heart with fire, with passion, passion for what makes me nostalgic. A unique perspective fuels my fire, makes me discover new passions, more nostalgia. I love it.

      I love harry potter.

      That said, LOTR is miles ahead of HP (imo ofc):

      - lotr has thousands of characters with loads of meaningful stories;
      - lotr has race history (harry potter has at best a few paragraphs per race)
      - lotr time period extends for thousands of years
      - lotr has more realistic events, HP shows harry getting help for the whole world and defeating voldemort due external factors (he isn't a skilled wizard or anything)

      Lotr even has it's own set of languages for some races, it's just so much more juicy and complex, it's (once again imo) comparing romeo and juliet with twilight.
      LouaiB and Darkmatters like this.

      I've read + watched The Lord of the Rings (and read the Hobbit), and I think I've watched all the Harry Potter movies (I might not have seen the very last one; I forget).

      I loved the LotR books. The movies were cool, but I wasn't that interested (I watched them in the background while playing video games). There were some great scenes, but for the most part I preferred the books by a long shot. I'm an RPG nerd, so I think LotR was just right up my alley. Staff-wielding wizards, rugged dwarf fighters, marksman elves... even a paladin-style "class" was represented. So yea, I was digging it.

      I actually preferred the Harry Potter movies over the LotR movies, probably just because I read the LotR books before seeing the movies. I might try reading the Harry Potter books soon.
